The Cast:
Me MKFan-PR, 37. Absolutely, 100%, government-certified WDW freak. Enthusiast doesnt quite cut it. Fell in love with the place since the first time my parents took me when I was 5.
DW, 41. Married to me for 11 years. Guess where weve gone on vacation for most of them? Doesnt like thrill rides but loves strolling, window shopping and dining on Epcot.
DD, 6. Well call her Cookie (my pet nickname for her). This trip is supposed to be celebrating her good grades and performance in 1st grade at school (at least thats what I tell people! ). Shes been dreaming about it since I mentioned the possibility way back in October.
Our previous installments:
Day 1: Were here!...Our bags will follow shortly
Day 2: MGM and the baked MKFan Family
Day 3: MK, ducks, and the grilled MKFan Family
Day 4: AK and the sautéed MKFan Family
Day 5: Soarin at Epcot with the roasted MKFan family
Sorry about the delays, but work has been a killer the past couple of days... stupid real world!
Day 6-8/3: Seat-of-the-pants for the boiled MKFan Family
Ahhh, the bliss of mornings at WDW... The sunshine, the promise of new adventures and magic... and the Proud Family on the Disney Channel...
I'm telling you... I'm missing Christa...
Today is seat-of-the-pants day. The day in our vacation where we do whatever we want, whenever we want, without any plan whatsoever, doing everything from the tushie of our fun-loving trousers!
(I can hear the commandos fainting from here
Take it easy! Even the guidebooks tell you to set apart a day for yourself to relax).
Of course, first things first...
I'll be right back with breakfast...
To DW and Cookie it's called Daddy's Room Service. To me it's just Self-Service Room Service...
After the most important meal of the day, Cookie and me change into our swimsuits, and decide to take a stroll to POR, and maybe check out the pool there. DW will stay reading and relaxing, since the seat of her pants tell her she's not walking much this morning.
The path to POR is very nice and pretty. POR itself is quite charming. For my tastes I prefer the AB section, but the Mansions are beautiful.
We arrive and are disappointed to find out that there are no canopy boats available for rental at the marina. Since the sun today is set to MICROWAVE, we decide against any type of unshaded boat transportation. We head to the pool area (Ol' Man Island), but then Cookie decides that she would prefer to go to the POFQ pool, to be closer to mommy. Since she requests it with such elegance and cuteness, I comply.
After a refreshment break at the POR Food Court, we head back to our home base, and Cookie immediately goes into a serpent slide marathon, pausing briefly for play in the water sprays. DW joins us and we spend quite some time at the pool and the slide (didn't think I was going to miss that, did you?)
After a while, we hear the voice of the pantseats... 'Return to MK...Return to MK'. So, faithful and obedient us, we decide that's the way to go. We head to the Food Court for a late lunch (burgers - it's not vacation if I don't have burgers at least once!), then freshen up and head to the bus stop for a late afternoon and evening at MK.
The early evening is cool and comfortable... just right. After a stop for the now obligatory stroller, we proceed towards Fantasyland, where a flight on Dumbo, a ride on the Carousel and a trip with Snow White await. After those, a repeat visit to PhilharMagic is in order, and we are all in great spirits. Everything has been done with minimal wait, even though tonight is EMH night.
Speaking of spirits (clever segue, isn't it?
), our next stop is the HM, which is now greatly atmospheric with the rising darkness. Event though she gets nervous on some of the thrill rides, Cookie really loves the HM. Especially the 'bone people'. This isn't scary at all to her. Only thrill ride climbs get her a little anxious. Monsters? Bah! That she's not afraid of monsters or scary stuff is great. I don't know of many parents that are woken up by their kids because they're afraid of the rollercoaster in the closet!
After the HM we stroll towards Frontierland. A stop at the CBJ confirms what we saw the last time we were here: it's all in the audience. This showing's group is either tired or disappointed because the theater has padded benches instead of chairs and they were looking forward to catching a couple of ZZs.
(If they wanted to doze off, I could have recommended CofP, from personal experience
)
Cookie and me then ride BTMRR. It's pretty good at night, but you miss most of the scenery, which is part of the fun. Cookie screams from 'an eclecitc mixture of abject fear and sheer giddiness'. We think about doing it again, but the wait time has now swelled to 40 minutes. Seat-of-the-pants day is not for waiting in lines.
We stroll back towards Liberty Square to have dinner at our favorite counter service place in MK: Columbia Harbour House! With Clam Chowders and chicken strips in hand we head up to the second floor, to our favorite nook: over the walkway between Fantasyland and Liberty Square, right beside one of the windows. As usual, the second floor is practically empty (there's always few people in the second floor when it's open - but don't tell anyone!!
).
We eat, then we spend some time relaxing: Cookie does some coloring and plays with her pressed pennies, while DW and me chat. Enjoying ourselves in one of our favorite spots on our favorite park on our favorite place on Earth... perfect.
We exit and head towards Main Street, where we decide to catch a repeat performance of Wishes. As usual, it's awesome and goose-bump inducing.
As the hordes of people exit (and others come in for EMH), we decide to stay back at Town Hall and wait for the masses to thin. We seat, having some Mickey bars and fruit bars. After a while, we head towards the buses, and we are shocked as they are PACKED WITH PEOPLE! You can see which resorts are the largest. the CBR and POR lines are spilling out from the queue area. Even POFQ, with its separate bus to MK, has a full queue.
Since we're not in the mood for lines, we sit on a nearby bench. Cookie gets comfy in Daddy's lap and drifts off, while DW and me people-watch. After about an hour the POFQ queue has thinned, and we get in line, with me doing a late-night workout hauling our 51 lb 6-year-old DD. Pretty quickly the bus arrives, and in no time we're back at room 3240. We change Cookie and set her in bed, then we follow suit after a trip by me for ice and soft drinks. DW quickly falls, while I last a little longer watching TV.
One more day in the books. And the end of the vacation approaching...
but I'm not going to dwell on that. We still have two more full days to enjoy!
Tomorrow... The fried MKFan family around the world
