The Mentalist

I just found this thread, I wanted to say I loved Simon Baker in the Guardian and really liked this new program. I hate saying it because it seems when I like something, they end up cancelling it! But I will definitely watch again!:happytv:

House and then The Mentalist, great TV night. :thumbsup2

The show reminds me of Psych meets CSI. The first episode was ok. I like Robin Tunney and Simon Baker is just adorable! I will tune in again!

Mind you.. I did not see the entire show just bits here and there ..but I saw the ending and it creeped me out without knowing why ...

what was the significance of it ?????????

It was the killer Red John who killed his wife in their bedroom and left that as a calling card

I also was curious about the significance beyond this:

Why would he leave that up after all these years? In fact, why even stay in the same house? :scared:
Why was the mattress on the floor? And the smiley face was really low on the wall, maybe this was his daughter's room?
And why sleep here? How could he sleep there?

Thoughts that came to mind:
Maybe because he feels guilty, bringing them into Red John's radar with his public comments...
Maybe because he vowed to never forget; this is a horrible, daily reminder...
Maybe because he vowed to keep everything the same until their killer was caught...
Maybe because, in a very creepy way, he feels closer to them there, where they lived their last moments. :guilty:

I was watching it and just horrified when I saw the smiley face, and more horrified yet when he lay down underneath it and went to sleep! :scared1:

I would like to add another reason. He probably feels like this is his punishment for pretending to be a psychic which in a way lead to his family being killed.

Yes! Good one!

yep yep to all the reasons why. everyone deals with grief in their own way.

i too watched and enjoyed it thinking it was a great cross between psych/csi/ and house (all shows i also like).

I don't know why it was so low on the wall but I remember him saying that that was the first thing you saw when you walked into the room and that the bed would've been opposite to the smilie face...:confused3

Just finished watching and I still love it! Loved the "Rock, Paper, Scissors" and when Teresea said "Bite Me!".

Good scripts, all it needs is good scripts...

I think it is a great show but the California Bureau of Investigations. is that real? Seemed a bit like Criminal Minds in that sense.

I don't like the lead cop character but the other are fun to watch. The rock, paper, scissors scene was hilarious.

I loved the rock, paper, scissors scene, too, hilarious!!! :rotfl2:

I told DH early on, "Ohhh, I'm going to be so disappointed if it's who I think it is." Well, it was... :headache: but not exactly how I expected it!

I didn't see it explained very well though (why on earth would this person do what they were doing???), but maybe I missed some while I was folding laundry? :confused3

i think theres SO many detective shows out there that us viewers are programmed to know its never the obvious person and always some odd person so its hard to be surprised anymore kwim?
theres only so many characters they can show in an episode. with a new series there isnt enough backstory built up yet either to throw in those curveballs.

so of course it wasnt going to be the secret lover and had to be either the chef or the semi creepy old deputy. i thought having the wife in on it was a nice twist actually.
