The melting pot

I hate Melting Pot. I don't want to go out on my one night out, pay tons of money and then have to cook my own food :) We've been a couple of times on gift cards, but it's not something we'd pay for ourselves.

I'm okay with going for drinks and dessert, but for us, dinner is just not worth it.

Wow its about 50/50 huh? Im so torn! I want to try something new but at $100-150 I dont want to be disapointed! I am only concerned about the cooking your own food thing. I went to fire and ice a few years ago and would not return because of the whole picking out raw food then standing in line to have it made. My best friend says I need to go here that it is amazing :worship:! For that kinda money it better be amazing lol! SO TORN WHAT TO DO WHAT TO DO??? I dont mind spending the money at all its just I dont want to be disapointed:sad2:! HMMMMMMMM

You'll never know until you try it. I haven't been (would like to sometime), but it sounds kinda romantic, especially with a few glasses of wine thrown in!

Please do go and as a PP said, come back with your review! Any chance we might get pics?:lmao:

Not a big fan. The food is adequate, but not worth what you pay. If you have a Morton's steakhouse, put your money there. Food and service is fabulous (at least it is at the Morton's here).

Count me among the disappointed. My best friend raved about the Melting Pot over the years so I finally talked my DH into going, and we both felt it was a serious waste of a lot of money. Super bland, tiny portions...kind of like that person everyone has met who thinks they are ALL THAT but in reality it's just ALL IN THEIR MIND. Feel free to go to learn an expensive lesson, that's what I did. Never again.

I *HATE* the Melting Pot. It is WAY overpriced and the food quality is definitely sub-par. I think you will be severely disappointed. If you are specifically looking for fondue, try to find a fancy local independent fondue restaurant, it will likely be of higher quality and less expensive.

I saw from your post that you are in Boston -- there are so many better options for amazing food experiences at the price point you are talking about. One example would be a fancy multi-course lunch at L'Espalier with optional wine pairings. You might want to check out the message boards at www.chowhound.com, they are a great resource for finding restaurants.

We like it. But we don't get the full meals; we don't even get the entrees. We're vegetarian and don't generally eat a ton while out, so we'll get the cheese fondue with bread and veggies and then the dessert. I'll have a beer, it's fun and good!

I've never encountered anyone screaming, or really anyone there at all. Then again, we go early and we go on weekdays, so maybe that's why.

Dh is Korean, and therefore he's been cooking his food at restaurants his whole life...so this is nothing new at all, and doesn't make him feel shortchanged. But then we don't order those entrees, not even the tofu one, b/c the cheese and dessert fondues fill us up just fine!

And yes, they will substitute. We don't eat marshmallows, and they will always bring us more of whichever dessert dipping item we want.

We love it! We have gone to the one in Burlington, MA and it was lovely. We were there a long time and had a really leisurely meal. It was expensive but we did spend a long time there with out being rushed. Our food was tasty (I make it at home often but thought it was very good there too) I would not say it was bland in the slightest and I am picky eater so I would tell you if I didn't think it was good. Get in there site and join the Melting Club or whatever it is. The will Email you a coupon for a free Chocolate Fondue! (if you get the big night out they just subtract the price form it) I would say go for it. For my DH and I with Sodas, Cheese, Entrees and Chocolate Fondue (with coupon) it was between 60 and 70. Worth it for a special treat!

We really loved the experience, we went the saturday after valentines day(no sitter on the day itself) dh surprised me since we didn't go out for the day itself. We had a such a great time relaxing and chatting over our meal, we were there 3 hours, I don't think we have talked that much since our mommy daddy only trip to the World in Sept. My dh made ressies ahead of time and he did it online and ordered flowers for the table...first time ever in 10 years he has been that romantic:goodvibes
The food... we got the big night out! We loved the cheese fondue, the salad was good...just salad nothing fancy...the entree we would skip anything with the seafood we didn't think it was very fresh tasting or looking before we cooked it, although we loved the beef and the sauces to dip in were great, also liked the mushrooms and filled them with the green goddess sauce, potatoes and broccolli were NASTY! Dessert that was fabulous we got the flaming turtle.
I think its you should at least try it once, ours is very quiet and mostly couples and groups of four, the booths are very private and for us it was a very romantic evening, we are used to pizza or Red Robin type places with our 3 kiddos:) Let us know what you think and what you had, I love to hear real reviews from real people!

Add us into the "LOVE IT" group! My dh isn't one who sits and lingers over dinner but this place gives us something to do to slow down the evening. If you are there for date night or an anniversary tell them when you reserve and they will put you in a corner booth which is completely isolated--you won't be facing any other diners and it is always quiet and intimate to us.
We love the food...we do the dinner for 2 and get salads, cheese fondue, a combination of meats and veggies and dessert. We have soda--we aren't drinkers and pay about $70.
I hope you go and give it a try!

We've gone a handful of times to 3 different locations, and we like it. Its not something you want to do all the time, but it is nice for a special occasion.

I think it is fairly priced. If DH and I went to a mid-level chain steakhouse and got salad, appetizer, entree and dessert, we would surely spend the same amount.

As far as it being bland and sub-par quality food, I've never found that to be the case, and I've eaten in several 5 diamond restaurants in the past year. We actually went last weekend, and the lobster was very good quality. The filet was very tender and flavorful. The fruit was very fresh. That's about all I can ask for.

They give you so many sauces I can't understand it being bland. DH and I are foodies, and we have fun mixing and matching the sauces with the different types of meat. Oh, and mixing different sauces together to create new sauces. Fun, try it next time.

That being said, I don't understand people who get the oil for cooking instead of the flavored broth/wines. I once went with a couple who got chicken with the oil, and it came with some sort of batter to dip the chicken in. They essentially were making very expensive chicken mcnuggets! :confused3

We like that they don't rush you in the slightest. You can eat and talk at your own pace. VERY IMPORTANT when you have young children at home!

We love it. It's not your basic visit one a month restaurant, nor one that I would bring my kids to, but it a nice, relaxing, romantic dinner to enjoy with your significant other. We went our first time years and years and years ago in Myrtle Beach and fell in love and my husband and I said wouldn't it be fun if there was one in Boston, now years and years later we have three. We also always do the big night out and they have GREAT drinks.

So I decided to go!! And I am glad I did. We went to the providence RI location since we had tickets for imax that night. I had made ressies online for 5:45. We arrived at 600 due to lack of parking and crazy rain. I figured 15 min late most likely we we not going to get in. To my surprise they took us right in so that was nice! This location is very narrow but is very long. It basically is a long hallway with tables along the way. Our table was tucked away, very intimate! We could only see one other table and barely hear anyone! We ordered the chedder fodue. yummo! I was surprised that the apples and cheese tasted very good! The bread and cheese was delish! We ordered chicken breast and teryaki steak. The chicken was just that. Very plain. It wasnt bad just plain. Even with the sauces it was just chicken. The steak on the other hand was AWESOME!! We loved it! Cooked quickly and was very tasty! The veggies and potatos were yummy too! We were running out of time so we almost did not get desert but I HAD to have it! We oredred the flaming turtle. All I can say is WOW!! This was by far my favorite of the entire meal! SO good!! Overall I would rate the meltong pot a 9! Atmosphere=10 Food=9 service=9! Our bill was $75 so we apps entrees and desert I dont think that is bad. I wouldnt go there every weekend because its a little more than DH and I spend on our date night dinners, but it is very nice for special occasions. I would def recommend The melting Pot to my friends! Thank you all that gave their reviews!!:goodvibes

So I decided to go!! And I am glad I did.

:thumbsup2

That's great to hear! We actually did the melting pot and IMAX (Alice) last weekend for my birthday. I thought it was a great combination!

I agree with you about the chicken, although I do like some of the sauces. Boneless skinless chicken is the most boring protein source one will ever find, short of tofu. This is coming from someone who has a degree in Poultry Science too (yes, it is a real degree that is in demand in the south)!

So glad you liked it, flaming turtle is so YUMMY:goodvibes

I love the melting pot! I can only talk my DH into going about once a year, but when we go he says he enjoys it:confused3
The last time we went we got an early bird special that they offer before 6. It was the big night out but without the salad. I can't remember how much it was, but I had the wine flight and DH had a beer (or two) and we walked out under $100. I love cooking my food at the table, and the cheese and chocolate fondue are amazing!!!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it.
I need to talk my DH into taking me back.

I love the cheese and dessert fondues. Not crazy about any of the meat options (cooking my meat by boiling it or frying it is not my favorite).

I agree, the cheese and dessert fondues were pretty goos, but the meat options SUCK big time. Plus, my jacket smelled like a greasy french fry for a week after wearing it into TMP.

I also thought it was very expensive [around $100 for the two of us] for the "experience." I'd rather drop that kind of money in a really good sushi place that on some ol' 1970's fad food joint.

I really liked that we had to interact so much to eat. Not that we dont talk when we go out to eat its just we spend so much time just eating that it was nice to take things slow and eat and cook together! It was fun! Next time I go I would like to try the mexican cheese and filet mignon and the smores desert. No chicken for us which will make the dinner $55 which is not bad at all!! I cant wait to go again!
