Day 3, Part 5 LE FREAKING CELLIER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dear Lia and Mom,
I'm sorry that I had to leave early, I would have really liked to say hi. We can meet up later in the week if that's good for you. I hope you guys are having a great vacation. Thanks again Lia for the concert tickets, that was one of the best nights of my life. I hope you have a great dinner - make sure you get the Cheddar Cheese Soup, it's my favorite.
Dave
Isn't he so sweet? Barbara scored big time with him. Canadians just rock, I'm telling you. Oh, and I cackled at the "make sure you get the cheddar cheese soup" part. If he only knew that was the main source of all of this drama. LOL!
Mom and I were so excited to finally be eating at the famous Le Cellier. My mouth was watering at the idea of eating the soup again.
Our waitress came over and I yelled "CHEDDAR CHEESE SOUP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" at her. She scurried away.
Kidding. Actually, she was really cool and one of those people we just clicked with and we talked a lot about her life and why she is in Florida right now and all that throughout the meal. She was awesome and got a good tip at the end.
Here is a view from our table in the corner:
We ordered our cokes, and YES, FINALLY.... the Cheddar Cheese Soup. Well, duh. She brought out the bread first. I told my mom to try the Pretzel Bread first and explained how it is famous, and that so many people ask for more of it that recently I've been hearing that servers have been saying they aren't allowed to bring more.
Of course, it was INCREDIBLY DELICIOUS. BEYOND THE BEYOND. And when we asked for more of it, our server had no problem bringing out more. The other breads were good, I guess, but who cares really. For those who LOVE the Pretzel Bread but have less luck weaseling their way into Le Cellier: I would discover later on that the huge soft pretzels sold in Germany taste exactly the same. DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!
Finally my beloved Cheddar Cheese Soup was delivered:
It was just as delicious, if not even more, then I had remembered. But of course it was, this is Disney World. My mom's eyes widened and she made some interesting noises upon tasting this soup. I expected as much.
While gobbling it up, I remembered that everyone said you should dip the Pretzel Bread in it. I told my mom to do it and we made more noises.
Tables at Le Cellier are very close together. The elderly women at the table beside us gave some looks. Then one of them smiled and said, "Isn't that soup just DIVINE?"
We cracked up. It is the best, we said. Of course.
For my entree, I chose the famous Le Cellier Mushroom Filet Mignon - with wild mushroom risotto, white truffle and herb butter sauce.
I had heard a lot about this, and being that everything else was perfect, I expected this to be too. Thankfully, the filet
did end up being cooked to perfection. Exactly how I wanted (Medium - light pink in the middle) and just absolutely delicious. Now, how do I explain my problem with the risotto? Ok, it was too mushroomy. I do not blame Le Cellier for this being that it is supposed to be mushroomy, being that it is wild mushroom risotto. I probably shouldn't have ordered it being that mushrooms aren't my favorite, but I wanted to see if it lived up to the hype. I mean, i'm not an idiot - I do LIKE mushrooms, but I don't know, the flavor was just really, really strong and I didn't end up eating much of it. My mom LOVES mushrooms, so I gave it to her and she agreed that it was super strong even for a mushroom lover like herself. Anyone else agree or do you just think it's perfect? Again, I don't blame them for this, there really was nothing wrong with it, it's just my tastes. Overall I wish I had substituted the mashed potatoes with it instead cause like I said, the filet was perfect.
The inside:
It definitely was not as red as it appears in this photo. I like my steak pink in the middle, and it was perfect.
As delicious as my steak was, my mom's was the winner. She ordered the Coffee-rubbed Kansas City Strip Steak - with hazelnut butter and cream cheese mashed potatoes:
WHOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.
BACK THE F UP.
I can't even. Describe. This.
YUM.
My mom is a huge steak lover, and we have eaten at the best steakhouses in Manhattan as well as many other cities. And after eating this steak, she said that it was the best steak she's EVER had. That's quite a statement for her. I couldn't think of a better steak I'd had anywhere, either. It was truly delectable in a way I can not even describe. She was already pretty full from the bread and soup and told me I could have her mashed potatoes, as she just wanted to focus on the steak cause it was THAT good. Well I had no problem with that. The mashed potatoes were probably the best I had ever had as well (besides my mom's homemade ones she makes on Thanksgiving - nothing beats those!).
Needless to say, we were in food heaven. Honestly if it wasn't such a problem to get in, we'd have skipped one of our other ADRs and returned to Le Cellier later in the trip.
It absolutely, 100%, lived up to the hype. If you are skeptical at all of this place, I say GO. I know that it does have its detractors who say it is overrated. I disagree. Try it for yourself if you can get an ADR, or if you know Dave, and you'll see!
Did you think I forgot about dessert? No way!
We were going to get one dessert each, but we were SO incredibly stuffed so we decided to just share one. I had wanted to try the Chocolate Moose for YEARS, so that's what we chose (even though I really wanted the Smores too!)
GOD. Yet again, every little part of this was delicious. The ears and tongue are these special Canadian wafer cookies or something. I searched for them in shops in Canada because they were SO good I wanted ten packages of them to hold me over until my next Le Cellier visit. Well, sadly I didn't find them but I am going to ask the waitress next time if I can get them any place besides Canada itself. If I can't, we're going to Canada. The real one. I don't care. I want to make my own Chocolate Moose. Every day of my life. I think it will improve my mood permanently.
We paid and tipped and as we walked out, I was just so, so thankful that any of this was even happening. The crazy thing is, it SO would have been okay if we didn't get in! It's a fantastic restaurant, but we were still at Disney World. I would have been disappointed but not crushed. How can you be upset about anything for even a second while at Disney, you know? But somehow... everything had gone so magically well, I really couldn't believe it. I really believe that when you do nice things for other people, it will come back to you someway, even if it's years later, and I think this proves that.
I guess I forgot to mention that when we checked into CBR, there was a birthday card for me from Mickey Mouse left on our table. This was soooo exciting to me. I'd like to believe he hand delivered it. Anyway, inside was a PhotoPass card. We hadn't even used it yet, so we took the opportunity on our way out of Epcot to pose in front of the fountain and Spaceship Earth. I wish I could share these pics because they came out truly hilariously horrible, I think we were too full to pose that night. I think PhotoPass is so great, but I think the price of the CD is a bit much so we never get that. We did end up getting a few great shots that I saved, and got one awesome one printed out.
Up next: ABSURDITY on the bus home from Epcot. Ridiculousness. I can't wait to tell you guys this story.
