You can, but depending on where your room is located the walk could be a bit far and if you get hot food it might not be so hot by the time you get back to the room. Just something to consider.

I'm sorry to disagree, but as a DVC member with this as my home resort, I am always amazed when people talk about the walking distance at AKL. IMHO, unless you walk at a snail's pace, you can be from the Mara to anywhere in the resort in 5-7 minutes. And I always take the stairs to the 5th floor.

They keep lids (that awkwardly snap over the paper plates that they serve the food on) over in the drink&condiment area, and big paper bags, too. Note: the paper bags don't actually fit the large oval plates, so I'd just keep the tray and walk with that.

Ate there for the first time this xmas week trip and its great and I agree that is is not a long walk to any room. Ours was on the opposite side of resort on 5th floor from Mara and it was an easy jaunt back to the room.

Does anyone know what time Mara closes? We are flying in on May 13th, landing at 8pm. Taking ME, which could mean we could get to AKV by 10ish (hopefully!) By the time we check in, go to our room, is it possible to get something to eat at Mara? Any other ideas for food?

We loooove The Mara!!! And eating breakfast out on your private deck while watching the animals is the BEST! Enjoy!! We can't wait to go back in a few weeks.
