The mansion or AB at POR??!! So confused! Ok..this is my first time to ask a question, so hope I'm doing this right. I'm so confused at to which place we'll stay at..the Mansion or AB. One day I think we'll stay at the Mansion, then the next at AB bldg..14. I want to be close to the bus stop. But is the mansion just about the same distance? We've never been to WDW, so I have no clue. Just been reading up and looking at pics. We live in the woods, so wildlife isn't important. But the AB looks nice...but the Mansion does too. Haven't really seen pics. of the mansion, just one. I know it's one preferance. Is there any good spots at the Mansion? Any disadvantages to staying there? Thanks for any suggestions you might have. I'm sure I"ll have lots more questions too.

Why not let Disney choose for you ?;)
I always thought from looking at pictures that I would prefer the mansions by far. We just stayed at POR AB section. I toured the whole resort one day. I actually loved the AB section because of the winding bayous, little bridges and lansdscaping. It was quiet and secluded.

The mansions seem more out in the open, not hidden by winding paths and plants. They are big beautiful buildings and the room decor is 'grander' than the AB section rooms.

I would not worry as there is not a single bad place to stay at this resort:D

I agree. If you aren't sure where to stay let Disney know that when you check in. Let them work a little magic. Tell them it is your first stay and you are looking forward to staying there.

We've stayed in both and love them both!! In AB we were waaay back but it was quite a pleasant area and the walk to the food court (about 7 minutes) was terrific. Loved getting my morning coffee....just me, the ducks and birds!! Very rustic. On the other hand we stayed in Magnolia Terrace the last time. It was close to its own bus stop but we always used the main stop by the gift shop/food court. The rooms were more formal. And it was closer to the food court and main pool. Unless you have a preferance, I too, would let the 'magic' happen for you and just be surprised. It's a great resort. You'll have a great time.

Remember-ultimately Disney will choose for you! I'll never forget one time I requested AB and was really looking forward to it. I'd been in the Mansions on 3 previous trips, and told everyone I was trying AB for a change. When I checked in, you guessed it, I got the Mansions again and they said there were no rooms available in AB. So I moped around for about an hour, because I didn't get my request. But when I came out of my mope, I realized I had the most beautiful view in the loveliest Mansion. I learned the hard way-if you make requests don't get your hopes too high-ultimately it's Disney's choice where you stay and you may waste time moping as I did!

First off, do not, REPEAT, do NOT request a water view room!

Yes, you will be facing either the water or pool, but because the foliage can be very thick, you may not see the water! Save yourself the money and stick with a regular room! The resort is so spread out that no matter where you stay, you’ll have a quiet room.

My wife returned from POR a few weeks ago and loved the place. We stayed in Magnolia Terrace, third floor middle facing the river. We wanted to stay in Alligator Bayou, but no water view rooms were available. We really liked the mansions, but had a few complaints.

First was the water view issue, which I discussed above. Yes, our room faced the water, but the trees were so thick we couldn’t see the water! We were going to switch rooms until we realized that we were only one of two rooms occupied on our row. So we took the peace and quiet over the view.

Second, finding your way around a mansion can be tough – the room numbers have no logic behind them, and there are no direct stairs to the third floor! If you do stay at a mansion and have a third floor room, go directly to the elevator in the middle of the building! Otherwise, you have to use a staircase at either end of the building to go to the second floor, the take another staircase in the middle of the building to the third floor.

Another tip if stay in the mansions and have a car – park in the unloading area in the middle of the building, find your room, then determine where the best parking location would be! We parked off to the left of Magnolia Terrace, only to discover that our room was on the other side!

As for the bus stop – Magnolia Terrace is right behind the east depot bus stop, and Acadian House is very close to the north depot bus stop. The other two mansions are a few minutes walk to the east depot bus stop, but nothing too hard.

All mansions except for Acadian House are very close to the food court – very important for Mug Men. Also, the mansions are very close to quiet pool – we had maybe a one minute walk to a quiet pool, once we figured out how to get to the first floor!

As for the rooms, they were very nice! Having a double sink is a great plus! Our only room complaint was that the reading lights above the bed were too bright – this was easily fixed by unscrewing one of the bulbs.

If you do decide to ask for a mansion, you will not be disappointed! They are very impressive and the theming is second to none. You will be close to everything, and no matter what location you get, it should be very quiet.

Good luck, and have fun!

It's such a lovely resort. We've stayed in the Mansions twice. I have a lot of pictures if that will help, you can find them Here. There are links at the top of the page that will show you all around the resort. :)

Hey guys..
Thanks so much for you suggestions on which place we'll stay at. I like both, but drawn to the mansions. But if we do get the AB's, that's fine too. Not sure if we can even request what kind of room since it's in our pkg. We're doing the land/sea pkg.
Thanks everyone! I'm so glad I found this site. Since this is our first trip, this site will make it so much easier to plan. Sure I'll have more questions to come. I just can't wait to go!!:Pinkbounc

When requesting a building number, just state that you would like closet building to the food court. That way when they assign a building, you get a building nearest the food court.
