Day 3: MGM day. :sad2:

Buzz,
What is wrong with you, it’s already “Day 3”...:confused3

Slow down man or this report will be over in no time at all.

1. Epcot
2. California Adventure
3. Disneyland
4. Magic Kingdom
5. Animal Kingdom
6. The Carnival in the K-Mart parking lot
7. MGM or whatever the hell they call it these days

Not a bad list
A few changes
1. Epcot
2. Disneyland
3. Magic Kingdom
4. Animal Kingdom
5. California Adventure
6. The Carnival in the K-Mart parking lot
7. MGM or whatever the hell they call it these days

Man-Tip: There are TWO ways to walk to the turnstiles from the parking lot. Make sure you veer to the left when you get close to the bus stops. You’ll end up going thru your own little private security area and avoid the mess where everyone else goes. This is difficult to spot but if you pay attention, you can see it. Best way to find it is when you leave the pavement and hit cement, it’s time to veer left to the secret pathway.

Short cuts and secret pathways=GUD

If you’re going to choose one resort to miss the rope-drop and sleep in, I would suggest you choose MGM. It has the absolute WORST pre-opening ceremony of any theme park I’ve ever visited.

The rope drops at Disneyland and California Adventure are totally under whelming compared to WDW.

You stand at the rope, they play some music, the rope drops, security yells “Don’t Run”, and everyone runs.

There are a few rope drop secrets that you can use to give you a bit of an advantage over the rookies...:thumbsup2

Some goon behind me stepped on my heel and gave me the “flat tire” just seconds after the big “rush” began. I tried to motor on and adjust my heel back into my tennis shoe as I kept pace all to no avail. I was now wearing my left shoe like a slipper.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

The man next to me is visibly annoyed.

I get this attitude a lot at Disneyland, I can’t help that I am my own Steer and choose to break from the heard...:woohoo:

Up Next: Don’t Taze Me Bro!!

Was that you I saw on Cops?

You and Faunt have that shortcut method down to a science...:thumbsup2

Believe it or not, MGM back when it opened was my favorite park because it really did feel like a working studio. Now it's a shell of what it once was and doesn't really have an identity. It's my least favorite of all US Disney Theme Parks as well. I do dig ToT and RnRC, but that's about it......:confused3

Oh and the TS restaurants are fun.

It's not gud. :sad2: I do like the burgers at Rosies. ::yes::

Flip flop foot, hee hee.

DHS is HHBG's favorite.

Flip Flop Foot is a great description.

that was a genius plan/tactic. One that I must steal...or um borrow. :rolleyes1

Before you know it there will be hundreds of husbands doing the exact same thing every morning at DHS.

I think some peeps followed me but were turned away by the CM Nazi.

Buzz, believe me......A day at mgm is heaven on earth compared to going to the dentist! I have personal experience!:)

MGM is my least favorite too.:)

I enjoy the dentist. :thumbsup2

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
Best thing about MGM is Fantasmic.
Not my favorite park either.

Shoe:hippie:

Shoe! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

You guys mean "Disney Hollywood Studios" :snooty:
Yes, the park is awful. I can't believe the crowd that was there.
When I went in April, the place was a ghost town.

That crowd was strange. It's October and usually slow. Not sure what all the ha-bub was. It's a Wednesday even!!!

I happen to like MGM. Some good memories there at the Tune-In Lounge. No draft beer, but still a neat environment. They used to have The Catwalk Bar above the Brown Derby which was neat, too. I like the music and the 'feel' of the park. It needs some better rides - ToT and RnR can't carry a whole park. The Great Movie Ride is pretty stale as is Star Tours.

I'm not a huge fan of the rides at AK, but I think it's the best themed of any of the parks. Africa is amazingly themed, I think. As is Everest.

What is the deal with that huge crowd?! I have never seen it that busy. Of course, I go in January, but still.

It was unusual. I've never seen it this busy in October before. :confused3

:rotfl2: That's pretty bad! I like the shows here, but it's not a kid favorite either, cept for R&R. We're going for the EMH evening cause that's pretty cool there!

That carnival in the Kmart parking lot is great. You can bring your own flask and the "Zipper" is a lot like Space Mountain. :rolleyes1

I agree, MGM is my least favourite Disney park. It just doesn't have that same appeal and theming to it that the others have. Sure it has a few fun rides/ attractions, too name a few:

1.RRC
2.TOT
3.B&B
4.Fantasmic

My sister and I did the Lights Motors Action stunt show and it was cool.

It's too bad MB is afraid of the dark because Fantasmic is the best thing going at MGM IMO.

It's "ok" if you ask me. I like Illuminations so much better.

Are you picking up these tips from the Guide?

Nope. Experience. ::yes::

I soooo can't wait to tell you about our first rope drop experience :3dglasses

and when might this happen? popcorn::

If you had to choose one park for the rope drop, which would it be?????

Only one? MK for sure. But the other three really need you there early also.

Only 3 seconds and you were irritated?? Sheesh.

It doesn't take long. :rolleyes1

D'oh! Didn't you know enough to quit???

I like to be helpful. ::yes::

Thank goodness buzz made it back. It was getting ugly in here.

DHS isn't that bad. After all it is still Disney (not there best park, I'll give you that). It could be worse. It aint K-Mart. :lmao:

Welcome back buzz. How is the awful injury? :rotfl2:

My injury is healing nicely. I pour alcohol on it every night. Just the cheap stuff though. :rolleyes1

I USED TO WORK AT MGM!
[/SIZE]

Bummer! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

LOVE the aggressive manuevering skills!!

I gots sKiLz yo. :smokin:

Billings MT, Al Rokers pick city of the day! :cheer2:

Billings = gud.

Yep it takes skill and preciouse calculatoins,

that and the ability to not care that you are cutting in front of others, and making children cry when you shove them into a fountain as you pass them by.

You will like how i got in front of everyone at BB, i just posted it this morning.

Great update buzz, I would have taken the shoe off, and used it as a weapon to throw at someone, probably that CM that was yelling at you to not cut through the dinning area.
:duck:

I'll have to remember the shoe thing for the next flat tire I get.

What, no comments on all the running amuck that occurred yesterday:confused3 I am disappointed Buzz:sad2:

!

No time to comment... yet. :rolleyes1

Hi Buzz! Your trip reports are great! I love your writing style. I'm mostly a lurker just enjoying your updates...just don't feel my writing would be as witty as the other posters!

I have to agree with you about MGM being the least favorite of the parks in WDW. To be honest, of the 3 nighttime shows at WDW, my family enjoys Illuminations and Wishes more. I know, I know, I may be in the minority here...

Will you do a TR for you DLR trip? I hope so...my family is hoping to get there in the next year or so and some advice from the GAT master would be great. :)

I'll DLR once this is done. Man-Rule #457: Never do two trippies at the same time.

I didn't think Illuminations was all that great, the show just seemed dated with the green laser beams shooting everywhere. I do love Fantasmic, and Wishes is out of this world! Spectromagic as well, just wonderful.

Illuminations Rulz!! :mad::

The Wall Street Journal had a section today on cheap (less than $10) reds that are rated good or very good. Might pick up a bottle or 5 this weekend...

This just shows everyone's different tastes:thumbsup2 I like Illuminations, can take or leave Fantasmic, Love Wishes, and think Spectro needs to be imploded!:goodvibes

Janet = gud. ::yes::

Illuminations is my favorite nighttime Disney show. I just love the music. Fantasmic is my next favorite. Wishes is nice but I am not a fan of just fireworks...unless it's Hallowishes.

I dig Wishes. Love watching it from Cal Grill. :thumbsup2

Wishes and Illuminations! Spectro is kind of boring after the first time.

Buzz,
What is wrong with you, it’s already “Day 3”...:confused3

Slow down man or this report will be over in no time at all.

Good call. I cut back my production level by 75%. Thanks Goof. :thumbsup2

Not a bad list
A few changes
1. Epcot
2. Disneyland
3. Magic Kingdom
4. Animal Kingdom
5. California Adventure
6. The Carnival in the K-Mart parking lot
7. MGM or whatever the hell they call it these days

Not a big CA fan eh? I still dream about the Cheese Festival. Plus, the wine flows like beer. ::yes::

The rope drops at Disneyland and California Adventure are totally under whelming compared to WDW.

Gud to know. They don't open until 10 am while we're down there. :confused3

You stand at the rope, they play some music, the rope drops, security yells “Don’t Run”, and everyone runs.

Moooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Was that you I saw on Cops?

I've been on a few times. Which episode?

Don't encourage him. The rest of us would like him to finish before they all leave for DL:lmao:

:rolleyes1

I happen to like MGM.

:sad2:

There's always gotta be one.

:scratchin: Hmmmmmmm......

Buzz,
Have you guys done "Fantasmic" at DLR?

Nope. MB don't do evening events. LtP and I have two nights out with no "critters" though so we'll check it out. It's gud?

I think it is better then the one at MGM.

Getting a seat with out waiting for hours can be a bit tricky, but as time gets closer we can probably help you out with that. It pays to be Loco

My jaunt to the Fast Past line of RRC is not without peril. Some goon behind me stepped on my heel and gave me the “flat tire” just seconds after the big “rush” began. I tried to motor on and adjust my heel back into my tennis shoe as I kept pace all to no avail. I was now wearing my left shoe like a slipper.

For some reason this cracked me up. I'm laughing and coughing out of control now. Some goon!!! :lmao: Flat tire!! Wearing your shoe like a slipper!! :lmao: :lmao:

I had myself a very leisurely stroll with the kids to Little Mermaid, Trey's secret Disney passion. He loves this show. He did something really funny there that LA still talks about. It cracked us all up.

Great update Buzz! MGM is also NOT one of our favs... I am not a thrill-ride fan, so I can take or leave ToT and RnRC... usually I leave them. I do love the One Man's Dream attraction, Little Mermaid, and the Muppets... Statler and Waldorf are my heroes. My husband has an uncle that reminds me very much of Sam the Eagle though... :scared1:

I think I will have to re-write your list... so here's my take on it...
1. Epcot
2. Magic Kingdom
3. Animal Kingdom
4. Disneyland
5. MGM or whatever the hell they call it these days
6. The Carnival in the K-Mart parking lot
7. California Adventure

This may not be a completely fair judgement though, as I have only been to Cal Adventure once, and both Grizzley Rapids and California Screamin' were closed that day; so all we were left with was Soarin' (which I loved) and an endless stream of short, worthless carnival-style rides. Kind of reminded me of the Carnival in the KMart parking lot, as a matter of fact!!

Yep! This here is funny!

As we approached the outdoor “dining” area on the left and just prior to the turn to RRC, I decided to use a GAT* strategy and sneak through this area at an angle thus passing hundreds of park guests in front of me.
We've used this short-cut but not first thing in the morning because we have never made rope drop here. We just use it to save precious foot steps. And this is where I got my famous naked pretzel!

At this point, I can either move to another line, which are now 5 to 7 deep and filling up quickly… or slide around him and give the machine a try for myself. I opt for option two. ::yes::
Way to go Hazbro.

I notice the next person in line follow my lead and pass the man with the ticket issues. All I could make out as I put distance between myself & the FP kiosks was him yelling at the CM about people cutting the line in front of him. “Bummer”, I whispered aloud.
Whispered?

Once again, I “cut” through the outdoor “dining” area and went to rejoin my family at the Mermaid show. I’m a big fan of shortcuts. ::yes::
Me 2!

That thar is skeery!

Bummer! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Illuminations Rulz!! :mad::

I happen to have enjoyed working there. I got free food alot. Which is awesome when you are an underpaid college intern. Oh how I miss the days of getting off work at 2 on a very slow fall day and then riding RnRC 6 times in a row with no wait except for the preshow. I also had a brisk trading business going with the Fantasmic Dinner Show package tickets. Would trade those suckers for FP to rides at other parks.

And yes Illuminations RULZ!!

This will be our first time at DQ (buster bar:laughing: ) but we are going 3 times. Based on research I did with others who have gone, avoid evenings and weekends for starters. The locals with APs have the run of the place, it seems. We are going at opening and plan to spend 3 hours the first visit. I've been told there is no waiting on weekday mornings. I also heard the counter service there is pretty good. Deb has the menu at allears. They also have a Cheesecake Factory Express there, which is worth the admission price alone. :thumbsup2
Thanks! somehow I had printed off other menus but didn't know she had that one! I wonder how crowded it will be with lots of folks having these free "upgraded tix" :confused3

Really?? :rotfl:
I really love Fantasmic and I'm NOT missing it this time--last trip Mama Melrose and Mama-in-law got in the way!:headache:

We'll check it out. I'm Loco so gud seats shouldn't be too tough.

Gotcha, be loco. :thumbsup2

Is this where MB urinated on the floor? :confused3

CA gets a bad wrap but where else can you get year round wine from a winery, ride a roller coaster, then eat a 4 pound block of Amish Cheese? :thumbsup2

We've used this short-cut but not first thing in the morning because we have never made rope drop here. We just use it to save precious foot steps. And this is where I got my famous naked pretzel!

It's no big deal later in the day but during the "rush" they don't allow people in here. You have to be sneaky. :tiptoe:

That would be awesome. A bad day at MGM is still better than a good day at work.
