Ring!!! Ring!!! Ring!!! “Time to get up!!!”, yells Mickey.

Sorry, Mickey, we’re hanging up on you.

The radio comes on. Wham! I hear T give that alarm clock a can of whoop-bottom it deserves! The radio comes on again. Wham! Ah…the wonders of the snooze button…

“Oh my God, it’s 1:45pm, we have to GET UP!” :eek:

I slowly bring myself to consciousness and process the words I have just heard. IT’S 1:45 PM. Oh no, our MGM day! Ruined! And it’s only our second day! Oh no! Our Prime Time Café PS at noon! Shoot! I stumble out of bed, muttering to myself, all the while thinking that I had way too much sleep!

“T, it sure doesn’t feel like we slept for that long.”

“We must have been really tired! Oh well, it’s not so bad, it’s only 10:45am our time back home.”

Oh yeah, that makes me feel MUCH better. What are we supposed to do now? We missed our lunch PS, and we have a dinner PS at the California Grill at 5:30pm tonight. So, we are basically just getting out of bed, and then heading out to dinner. What a waste of a day! I can’t believe we slept in so late! It was only supposed to be for a few minutes!

We figure we may as well hang out around our resort (WL, remember?) until it’s time to go to dinner. That won’t be so bad. Maybe we can catch one of those watermice that I’ve always wanted to try. We get ready to head downstairs. I can’t help it, I can’t stop thinking about how we just wasted an entire day, ruined our MGM plans, especially on Star Wars Weekend!
I think of the money I just wasted. No! I force myself to think nice thoughts. Dinner will be so nice. Maybe we can do Downtown Disney afterwards. Have a leisurely stroll along the Boardwalk. There’s still plenty of time left today! Yeah, it’s not so bad! But I won’t let this happen again!

I figure I won’t eat anything until dinner. I have had this vision of stuffing myself full of gourmet cuisine at the CG for months. No way was I going to ruin my appetite beforehand. But T is hungry now, he must have something, anything. Roaring Fork to the rescue! He orders a club sandwich and we get two waters. Cost: $11.50 tax included.

“Are you sure you don’t want anything?”

“I’m sure, I’ll just have a couple bite of yours.”

T always makes fun of me when I say this. He thinks it always ends up being more than just a couple of bites. More like half the sandwich. Not this time. I really only take two bites. Really.

We open the doors to the pool area. Whoa, it is HOT :sunny: today! Where are my sunglasses? :smooth: We walk by a squished cockroach (or palmetto bug), ick! I’m glad I’m not one of these pool-goers running around shoeless! The pool is gorgeous! We walk by the boat rental hut to check on prices. The lady there tells us we would each have to get our own watermice since T is so big. Just what I need, to spend double the money! We decide to come back later. We walk back towards the pool area as the geyser is going off. Ok, this is kind of cute. Nothing like the real Old Faithful though!

We head back inside. I really want to stop at the pin cart. I don’t have a pin collection. I want one. Everyone has one. T won’t let me. For good reason. He says I will end up spending hundreds of dollars on pins this trip alone. He’s right. I’d rather use that money for another trip back here! I walk by the cart and won’t even look at it. We walk by the DVC desk and a nice CM starts shootin’ the breeze with us. We tell her everything there is to know about us. She tells us everything there is to know about WDW. We tell her we are going to dinner at the CG this evening and will probably do a bit of shopping on Main Street beforehand. She thinks it’s a great idea, looks back down at her computer screen that is set into the desk, punches a few keys, looks up and says we should try to catch the afternoon Share a Dream Come True parade that is at 3:00pm today. I’m as confused as ever, and T obviously is too. We look at each other as if the lady had just landed from Mars. T immediate asks the nice CM what time it is. She says it’s almost 2:00pm. That can’t be right, is your watch working correctly? Check your computer, what does your computer say? 1:55pm. T and I look at each other in bewilderment. How can this possibly be? We slept in until 1:45pm, and it took us an hour to get ready. It should be around 4:00pm.

T has an epiphany right there in the lobby.

“I must have hit the wrong button each time the alarm went off. I must have hit the hour button instead of the snooze button twice then, so we actually woke up at 11:45am!”

“Oh ok, we still wouldn’t have made it for our noon lunch PS anyway.” I feel horrible about not making that PS and not calling to cancel.

Wow, we just gained 2 hours! We thank the CM profusely, and run up to our rooms to get our fanny packs so we can head out to MK for some shopping! I think about how I almost was going to put on my watch this morning, but decided it would be too hot and sweaty. I didn’t want to be uncomfortable. AHH!

We boat it over to MK just as the parade is starting. Perfecting timing, they are just going around the courtyard in front of the train station! Wave to Mickey! There’s the Snow White float! I don’t know how Mary Poppins got stuck on the Aladdin float, but oh well. I love this parade, it’s adorable! But now it’s time to do some serious shopping. I want a Mickey watch. A good one, with brown leather straps and a silver face plate. I want all of those giant character statues. No, I just want a Minnie one to match the Mickey one I have at home. Ohhhh I remember this self-portrait Mickey statue I wanted 5 years ago. I wonder if they still have it. I’m going to get it this time if they do. No more hemming and hawing, I’m just going to get it! First stop, Uptown Jewelers. I spend about 10 minutes with a very kind CM, looking for my watch. No luck. She suggests I try the store at DD. They may have more variety. T, who doesn’t like to shop at all, naturally, manages to find a cute sorcerer’s hat Italian charm for his Aunt back home. I don’t have a charm bracelet, maybe I should get one and start a collection? I really do like these Lady and the Tramp ones. What?! They are sixty dollars? Ok, forget it. I can’t believe T bought something and I didn’t. The Universe may be about to collapse! We head over to the candy shop. I want to buy everything in there, but don’t. I figure I don’t want to carry the candy around and have it melt. I don’t want to ship it to my room in case I would want some tonight. So we go to the hat shop next door. T really likes this light-up Mickey’s sorcerer hat. He keeps picking it up and putting it back down, so I just buy it for him. We also buy our personalized Mickey ears. The CM who does the embroidering is fast and impressive. I want to learn how to do that! We head over to the Emporium. Back at home I saw a car with this really cute goofy stuck on the antenna, like he’s blowing away sideways with the wind. I was too stupid and didn’t ask her where she found it. The Emporium must have it for sure! We ask a CM at the counter about it. She knows just what we are talking about, but they aren’t sold anywhere except through mail order! Darnit! We thank her anyway and ask her if they sell cotton candy here. Nope, we’ll have to backtrack across Main Street to that candy shop. She tells us to get the blue one, it’s the best. So T’s happy with his bag of blue cotton candy. We walk by this cinema store and decide to go in. They are selling Pal Mickey’s there. We talk to another nice CM about it, and T thinks it’s the best invention ever (can you hear the Disneyholic meter going up?). Hm, should we rent or buy? Heck, let’s just buy him. T immediately clips Mickey onto his belt. He’s also still eating out of his bag of cotton candy. Another CM walks by and tells him he looks just like a big kid, you know, with his Pal Mickey and cotton candy. Aw if only he would put on those Mickey ears too!

We head towards the castle just in time to catch Cinderella’s Surprise Celebration. What a surprisingly good show!

It’s almost time for dinner. We hop on the monorail to the Contemporary. This hotel doesn’t really appeal to me. There’s really nothing Disney about it. We head up to the 15th floor and check-in at the podium. We request a window seat and get the usual spiel from the hostess. Being 15 minutes early, we sat in the lounge with our usual buzzing square thingy and order a strawberry daiquiri. It is the best I have had! Soon after, our plastic square starts to rattle and we are seated at an awesome window table with a great view! It might have helped being one of the first customers to be seated for that evening. Ron is our waiter and is very friendly and easygoing. He’s chatty, but not intrusive at all. We order the salmon flatbread, sushi sampler, asparagus soup, goat cheese ravioli, yellowfin tuna, and rib eye steak (now you see why I was saving room?). Oh, and two glasses of chardonnay that Ron picks out for us. It is very expensive by the glass, but he gives us a discount because he’s got a bottle that is opened and 20 minutes old or something silly like that. He says their wine bottles aren’t served if they’ve been opened for more than 2 hours or something. Very interesting. T also orders a pinot to go with his entrée. When we finish our appetizers, Ron comes over and tells us it’s going to be about 10 more minutes before our entrees are ready. He suggests we go outside to get a good panoramic view of everything. He takes us up there, points out all the different places for us, and takes our picture (unfortunately, the camera didn’t actually take the photo!) It’s just awesome up there! He tells us about the observation deck that we would normally use, but there is a private party that evening, so we didn’t get to see it. Next time!

Everything is delicious! We finish the meal off with the triple crème brulee dessert. It’s either that or the warm banana pudding, but I just love crème brulee and can’t resist! We finally finish dinner around 8:30pm. Cost: $175.00 including tip. Before we leave Ron gives us his card so we can call him directly if we ever want to come back to CG, and he’d make the PS for us. How cool is that? We take the bus back that to WL that night. I don’t remember why we didn’t take the ferry, but there must have been a reason. I have to take a picture of T in his new sorcerer’s hat
before we go inside. We stop by Roaring Fork for some water and a Mickey rice krispy treat bar. Cost: $7.26 tax included. We get back to find a sea turtle in our room! I’m loving it!

Tomorrow is Epcot Day! My favorite park!

~~~~This is me waving at you from just across the Willamette----I'm in Oregon City! ~~~~~
Love your reports! The pictures are an added bonus! Sorry that you missed MGM- it is HARD adjusting to the time difference! Can't wait for the next installment!
LOL about your wake up time.. 1:45pm / 11:45am?? That was hilarious... good thing the DVC lady set you straight.
>>^..^<<
I'm glad it wasn't 1:45, I was so upset for you!! I'm really enjoying your reports and the pictures are great! I was planning to go to CG on our December trip, you've made me even more excited for it!!:D
Mary Poppins in on the Aladdin float because the theme of that Snowglobe is "Flight." Aladdin and Genie, Mary Poppins, Pooh with a balloon, etc.
We found that out by checking out the Snowglobe replicas in the store on Main Street. :D
Great reports can't wait for the rest of them!:Pinkbounc
Really enjoy reading your reports! LOL Love all the details!:) The photos are nice too!!! (wish I could post like that...)
Am enjoying your reports. Sorry you missed Prime time. I love that place. Looking forward to the rest of your reports.
My BIL did the same thing when shutting off the alarm and was at the BWV gym at 5am wondering why it wasn't open!
Thanks for posting.
I have your same mindset--thinking of all the things that we missed! But I'm working on changing my mindset--Maybe because you slept in, you both weren't all tired and cranky, and all you missed was an argument that you would have had!
:D
Ron has been our waiter, also. He is awesome!
Your trip report is great! Looking forward to the next installment and observing the "conversion" to a Disneyholic. My husband and I went to WDW for our honeymoon, and he wasn't too crazy about it. Since then, initially just to make me happy, we've returned several times (over almost 15 years). Not too long ago, he said to me, "You know, I could go to WDW twice a year." I think I've never loved him more!;) Of course, I took him up on it immediately, and now we have THREE trips planned in the next ten months!
Alice28, wow a fellow Oregonian! We are pretty rare on these boards aren't we?
KMH1, thanks for that trivia...now I know! I would have never been able to guess that.
heart, way to go! I hope one day I can be as fortunate as you, and get to plan three trips in one year, LOL! It must be great to have your husband come around like that, even if it took a while. :teeth:
There must be something with those WL clocks because we did something very similar the first time we stayed at the WL! But we did look at our watches (and I've now learned to check the watch *every* time we get up :teeth: ) so we lucked out. Sorry y'all missed your morning but it sounds like a great day anyway. :)
Didn't you love California Grill? It's the best thing about the Contemporary I think.
And I *love* the towel animals.
