The Magic, the Memories and the Food! February11 Update July 23 WPuck's Express

Day 1, February 19

A snack on the second leg of the trip and some lunch provided by Lufthansa

The stopover in Frankfurt was short, only two hours, but since this is a huge airport and the gates are usually at the complete opposite part of the airport one needs that time.

We had brought rolls with ham and Tom got some Coke from a machine and we ate those before we boarded plane number 2, which was to take us to Orlando.

Our plane was a bit late as they were overbooked and had to unload luggage from people who volunteered to stay behind.

Once we were airborne and had reached cruising altitude they started serving snacks.

Tom got some beer and a small bag full of curly pretzel sticks.

I had some Diet Coke and the same curly pretzel sticks. They are not as hard as the American variety, they are very crisp and salty.

It took about an hour or so until lunch was served.

We started it with a small, but surprisingly fresh little salad

with balsamic dressing. Very light dressing and it was such a nice starter! :thumbsup2

Our main course was the

Beef Stroganoff, served with rice and carrots and peas. We were both surprised that the beef was actually very tender and well seasoned. The rice was just that, plain white rice and the peas and carrots were a bit too soft for me, but still quite nice for airplane food.

Everyone was served a slightly warm roll,

and some "young" Camembert and some butter. (Sorry I only took one photo of the dressing and the cheese)
The roll was crisp on the outside and soft and fluffy inside, the butter was your usual unsalted stuff and the cheese, well, it was young - a bit too young for my liking, but I guess it was better than nothing! ;)

With the meal we were served some drinks, Tom had another beer and I had some water.

There was still dessert!

Chocolate cake! Very moist and dense, topped with a chocolate glaze and some pistacchio nuts. Very good!
We did NOT try any more coffee or tea! ;)

Coming up: Dinner on the transatlantic flight

Karin,

I am laughing over your Aldi pictures! :rotfl: Thanks for sharing! I'm glad I'm not the only one that takes grocery store pictures. I even have pictures of my local Aldi that I took for my blog before we left for Europe. Here you go:

As you can see we love Aldi! :rotfl:I shop there all the time. I find I can feed two very hungry teenagers very nicely by going there. And there chocolate is to die for. YUM!

I loved your update! I love reading all about the airplane ride to someones destination. I even love the food pictures! I'm a nerd I know! Thanks for sharing.

Can't wait for your WDW reviews! Im so bummed we dont have Aldi where I live now, in Maine, I used to love them :(

you guys are cracking me up with your Aldi pictures. I just went yesterday!

Do you find sometimes there is some less than desirable people there though. Now I know normal people go...after I all I go to...:rolleyes1 but it seems like I always run into some strange folks there.
Yesterday a very strange lady was there with her DD who was very chubby. She was probably close to Claires age and very overweight, the poor girl. She wanted something and the mother yelled really loud she couldn't have it because the Dr said she was too fat and needed to be on a diet. I felt so bad for the little girl, but she just smiled and seemed oblivious to her mother...thank goodness.
And then as we were bagging another mom was checking out them bagging and she was screaming at her DD (again around Claire's age) to behave. The little girl was doing nothing but looking at a bench. Her mom then told her to sit on the bench till she was done bagging. Then the mom just kept screaming at the kid about what a brat she was. The kid was doing nothing but sitting there. We left before they did and as I was pulling out I saw the mom come out with no kid. a minute later the kid came out alone crying. Walking in a parking lot way behind the mom. I was shocked that this lady would let her kid walk in a parking lot unattended.

Of course I saw some less than desirable people at the Krogers today. I know this lady from story time and she is what we refer to as a "skumbag". :rotfl2:
She had her DD and her nephew and those kids were running in the parking lot while she yelled at them to stop. (both again around Claire's age) And then in the store you could here her yelling all through out the store. She even said, "why can't you 2 stay with me like Claire stays with her mom". I wanted to hide. I didn't want anyone to know I knew this lady. :rolleyes1

Maybe I attract them. :lmao:

That is horrible. Some people should not have kids. Where in Ohio do you live? Are you from Toledo Area?

Great update Karin! It's hard to make airplane food look good but I think you explained why - it's was coming FROM Europe to the US!! lol :rotfl2:

Signing on for this round of reviews! I've enjoyed your previous reviews - I just don't always have the opportunity to comment. But wanted to make sure you know I'm reading and enjoying and appreciating all the effort you put into these reviews!

Oh how I have missed your food reviews and pictures during my disboards hiatus! I'm happy to be back and reading along!!!

Great job as always!!!:thumbsup2

Wow I missed the Airplane food update !!!! Looks good for airplane food !!Of course on my short flight I am used to a bag of nuts !!!:rotfl2:We too have an Aldis and although we don't shop there often it is good value , but they don't take cou[pons and I can do so much better using them !! Our local grocery chain is now offering extra gas points for each coupon you use and I am raking up the points to get 50c of a gallon on gas !!:banana:

I love your airplane food shots! I miss not getting those meals anymore. I remember getting meals just flying from MHT to BWI 30 years ago or so. I haven't flown very far for a long time so when I see the airplane food it makes me so nostalgic.:cloud9:

I thought of your airplane food report as I flew 2 1/2 hours from Dallas today; all I got was a plastic cup of Sprite Zero.
I knew to bring something so I had some almonds and dried pineapple but thought with longing of your airlines snacks.
Another thing; my friend in Dallas had a bite-size Nussini candy bar on her counter! I froze like a bird dog on point and choked out "Where did you get that?! Do they come in BAGS?!". She looked at me strangely and said "I don't know" and shrugged.:worship:
