The Magic Kingdom Castle Cake...Anyone Else Like It?

If you thought the MK Castle Cake was bad, you should have seen what they did to the castle at Disneyland Paris. Ewwwww.

Like PandyPaws, we saw the beginning of the transformation. But 1997 was the only year in the past 10 that we didn't go to WDW, so we never saw the completed project. I seem to recall seeing them undo-ing the cake in 1998.

Towncrier,

I never got to see the DLP thing live (I have never been their). But if this is what you are refering to, I like it too (maybe I just like everthing disney...

Saw it for real and didn't like it. Realized how much I hadn't liked it this past trip: in the evening, with the "natural" castle and the changing colored lights - now THAT'S beautiful!!

Didn't like it. All I could think of was PeptoBismol. We made that comment every time we saw it that year. One day we got some great pictures of the candies deflating all over the castle. Now that really looked strange!

Do you think the castle being painted white with maybe blue "frosting" and candles would of been better accepted? It would of been less of a shock to many!

I saw it in person and can say that I did NOT like it. I suppose I am somewhat of a traditionalist when it comes to WDW. I don't mind things being added, but I hate to see things changed (WoM, Horizons, Ellen's Energy Encounter **shiver**, Tiki Birds, Conservation Station changing name to Rafiki's Planet Watch, Journey Into Your Imagination, as well as many others). I am also one of those people who think the addition of the Mickey hand holding the wand on SSE is an eyesore. It was bad enough when they put "2000" up there for the Millennium Celebration, but then they modified it instead of taking it down....

In 1995 they built a new High School near where I lived that was "affectionately" referred to as "The Pink Prison." It was a large building painted a Pepto-Bismol color pink. When I saw the Birthday Castle all I could think was that it reminded me of the Pink Prison.

I loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was soooooooooooo cool I thought, but then again I am a bit unusual I guess!

:earsgirl:

Never got to see it in person (we had a trip right before and right after), but I did think it looked neat. Wish I would have gotten to see it in person, though. :(

I got to see it in person and thought it was really neat, and took a bunch of pictures of it. Didn't know there was a figurine available though, darn it! :( I was glad it was a "cake" for only a year though, it's beautiful just the way it is. :)

I didn't see it in person, but I thought the pictures were very pretty. I can see how some thought it was really tacky, but I thought it looked very whimsical and fun. Not to be taken too seriously.:D

I loved it.....and I know I'm in the minority....but I loved it...

I did like it too. It was our very first trip to WDW and my first time to ever see the castle. I thought it was cute.

I am a pepto cake hater. Yes it is the disgusting color they picked. I took the Keys of the Kingdom tour that year. According to the CM on the tour the love hate was 50-50. She said she did not run into anyone who said oh well. They either hated or loved it. If they had used a different color it would have been fine to most folks. The idea was good the execution was horrible. I think the person who picked the color should be locked in a room of that color and everything they ever see is that color.

We were there as they were transforming it into the B-day cake. I thought it was odd they were painting the castle pink????

Wish I had see it first hand. I think it would have been something to see. Think about it, whether you Loved it or Hated it, you still got to see a part of history that they may never do again.

Loved it and love to look back through old WDW trip photos and run across it , always gets a smile.

I saw it 2 times in person . The first time it was being painted it was ok . Then I saw it finished and thought " That is a cute idea but not for WDW" maybe a cupcake topper or something" I was glad the next year when they turned it back .

Wishing everyone a Tagged Night

I didn't see it in person, althought DM and DF did. I thought it was a really neat idea, although I can see how people wouldn't like the color. I think it had to be different enough to really stand out from the norm.

I did feel bad, though, for all those people that were there during that year for their once-in-a-lifetime trip. They really missed out being able to see the castle in all its beauty and glory. As fun as it is for those of us who have been there multiple times, everyone should have gotten the chance to see the real thing.

Nope sorry.... the castle is so beautiful and magical...the 'cake' took away from that.
