Welcome aboard. :sail: I have added you to the roll call. :thumbsup2

Hi Karyn and the rest of y'all. I just registered so I'm now an official DisBoard member! I am SOOOO looking forward to this cruise. And for the others celebrating their 50th birthday - yup, I agree, I think we definitely should have a half-century (oh god, that just sounds awful) day for all of us!
Cristi

Welcome Cristi. :)

Sharon & Gary, sorry don't know cabin number, how do I find it?:)

You can find it on your reservation confirmation from DCL, or if you log in to your booking on their website. You may not have a been issued a room number yet so it may say GTY. No worries if you dont have it. :)

About 13 years ago,DH & I took the overnight train from Paris to Barcelona.
We were 6 chaperones for 40 students (who tried to fit all 40 of themselves in one cabin).
We had 4 berths to one cabin/room and I forget if it was considered first or second class. It was a tight fit.
I usually never sleep in planes, trains, buses and cars, but it was a reasonably smooth ride,so I did eventually fall asleep( each chaperone took a certain sleep/awake block of time).
If it were just adults,we probably would have flown, but we wanted the students to have as many different experiences as we could find for them in a week.
They all loved it. DH & I would probably do it again, with just us, mostly because DH loves trains.
It wasn't bad,but definitely not for everyone-remember,you're starting out while still light out,but you're doing most of your traveling at night-can't see the countryside.......if you're not a talker or reader or have trouble sleeping on a train.........may not be a good idea.......

Hello fellow Disney Geeks. My friend Cristi (TexasMousEars) told me about this cruise and all the great Disney fans and activities so I had to book it. Please add me to the list. I wish it was this September!

It is true, the night on the train would need to be factored in against hotel costs to make it comparable. Hadn't thought of that, but I think what still puts me against it is the time factor. Since this may be the only time I ever get to Europe, I want those hours for sightseeing. Yes, some of them I would be sleeping anyway, but in my mind, it'd take hours away.

What is fun about discussing and having people throw out ideas though is finding out all the options that are possible. :goodvibes

Leonard Cabin 2142

Hello and welcome Leonard! :welcome:

Holy crap. There's a lot here.

I'm Susan, I will be traveling with DH (Sean) DS (Declan, 14 at sailing) and DD (Ciarrai 11, will turn 12 on-board) We're from Ohio, but living in TX right now.

binkytel can vouch for my mad computer skillz, would anyone object to me making a little wiki or separate community type thing to keep track of all this information? I'm totally overwhelmed with everything in the thread and can't even really process it. (and we're still over a year out!)

That's pretty much the same time frame that Jenn and I are looking at. We already have Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights booked in Barcelona. We're talking about how long and where to stay in DLP. We have been thinking of three nights. Although we do want to go into Paris itself to see the Eiffel Tower and maybe experience one of the outdoor cafes.

So, what I have been thinking about is landing at CDG, storing the two big bags at the Luggage Storage place and then just taking the High-speed train into DLP with the carry-on. If I pack it correctly, the carry-on can get me through the 3 days at DLP. As to whether to stay at DLP or in Paris, I would think about if you want to stay for the evening fireworks or see the Buffalo Bill Wild West show; that might make for a late train trip back into Paris proper. According to the website, it is a 12-min ride from CDG to DLP.

So - at this point - the game plan is:

Land at CDG - store the two checked bags, hop on the high-speed train to DLP with the carry-on. Wednesday morning we'll do it in reverse and then fly on to Barcelona. As Karyn said, at this point, Air France seems to be the best bet - although the luggage fees will add up. I'm not worried about the weight as I can split it among the 3 bags (carry-on gets repacked when I get the other bags out of storage).

Cristi

We are thinking about flying into Madrid instead of Barcelona. I used to live in Madrid and I'd love to see how it's changed in 15 years and show the family around. Of course, if we fly into madrid, we have to schlep our luggage from there too :/

Can you do the package thing that you can do on US cruises?

I can't speak for everyone but a website type of thing with all the info in one spot might be good. A good friend of mine used to do Google websites and would have spreadsheet documents that showed all the important events, data, etc. Very helpful!

So if you could do something to that end (not necessarily Google that was just an example) I bet people would like that?

K, I'll set it up tonight. Just like when I did technical stuff for my other group, I give this disclaimer:

This does not put me in charge of all the group activities or anything. If you have been planning something, I will make sure you have the account privileges to continue being the lead on that event. I will help teach people how to use the site if they have trouble. I'm just helping to facilitate easier communication, I don't want to take anything away from anyone else.

You can email me at susan@sapphiremind.com if you have any questions or issues.

I just threw it up tonight, there's still a ton of work to be done, but it has spreadsheets, files, blogs, calendars, pretty much everything you could want :) If you don't see something you want, tell me and I'll see if it can be added

everything is set up that you have to be a registered user to see any true content (when we get it) for privacy, unless someone objects.

Thanks for this Sapphiremind :goodvibes - I was still trying to make my way through all the posts on here - new cruisers so info all in one place will be really helpful - already managed to book cruise without realising you could choose your cabin - newbies eh :rotfl:!!!

I hope you are aware that our first page does list all the activities currently associated with our cruise. There are so many exciting things to do, and I am sure many more will be added in the coming months !! Looking forward to meeting so many of you who are cruising with us.

Yes, I saw that stuff and it is a huge mass of info which is awesome but very difficult to wade through coming in, trying to figure out which things are open, which are closed and just the shell shock of seeing to much in one big list. I do better when it is broken up a little so I can digest it a piece at a time :-)

I agree and I'm thankful to have someone offer to put it all in easier to find format!

I am also thankful for Pinky166 who maintains all that info on the first page. I'm thankful for all the people who are taking their own time to organize all of the events. It all helps. :goodvibes

I'll sign up for the Wiki as soon as I have a few moments.

Couldn't agree more - that why I love Dis so much - everyone's really helpful

Same here!

On the 2011, Noel (aka, birkner) and her DH did a booklet with everything in it - schedules, activities, FE groups, etc. Once everything gets into the Wiki page, could it be printed to take with? If any of the organizers want help entering their info, I'd be glad to do so (once I sign up and figure out how it works).
