hello,
i was just wondering if anyone has done 'The Magic Behind Our Steam Trains' tour in mk?
im thinking of doing it, but im just wondering if anyone has more info/experience? ;)

thankyou :):thumbsup2

My family (DH, DD14, DS11 and I) did this last March. While the first 1/2 was really interesting, the last 1 1/2 was too long. It is spent with the conductor talking and sharing Walt's life/love of trains. It was interesting but it just went on...and on...and on...and on. WAY too long for our group and would think any kids. Must be why you must be at least 10 to participate. I think adults would be just fine though.

My mom and I did this tour and it was fantastic. We loved learning all about the history and seeing the roundhouse. It didn't seem long at all to us. I got to go up in the cab of the train (it was extremely hot!). Definately an enjoyable experience all around.

My dad and I did this tour this past April, and loved it. My dad is still raving about it!

We've done just about every Disney tour, and this one continues to be one of my favorites. It involves a ride on a special train (only used for the tour and to bring in the characters and family of the day for the Magic Kingdom opening ceremony); a trip behind the scenes to the roundhouse; opportunities to take pictures inside the cab of the train and standing on the tracks in front of the train at Toontown Station; and lots of interesting information from engineers and conductors.

When you first arrive, there's an opportunity to stop on the balcony of the train station and take pictures Main Street without anyone on it (the tour starts before the park opens).

As with most backstage tours, you receive a collectible pin as part of the tour.

Granted, I'm a big train enthusiast, so I was guaranteed to love it. But my parents and roommate also found it to be very enjoyable.

The minimum age for the tour is 10 years old, but I agree with the previous poster that kids won't get as much out of this tour as adults.

We made it a train-themed day, and scheduled an ADR at the Whispering Canyon at Wilderness Lodge for lunch. When we were done lunch, we visited the Carolwood Pacific Railroad Room in the Villas at Wilderness Lodge building. (Not necessarily worth a special trip to see, but since we wanted to do that restaurant during the trip anyway, we scheduled it for that day.)

My dh and my son did this several years ago. They both loved it! They still talk about it every now and then. My dh got some fantastic pictures of the trains and main street. I believe my son was 10 when they did it and he loved it. He was very inquisitive then and asked a ton of questions and got all the answers he wanted.

thats great!
i think we will do that, i do like history in general (especially wdw history!!)
im just wondering how you all got to mk before the tour? i've heard it starts at 7am, so im thinking of a taxi to the Contemporary and walking round on the small path?

anyway, thankyou for all your replys :goodvibes

We went on this tour in January and it was fabulous. Ed, our tour guide/Engineer was amazing and had a ton of great info that he shared. We have a special needs child (autism) and Ed was great with him letting him sit up on the train with him the whole time and he allowed him to be the conductor, blow the train whistle and yell "all aboard" when we left the station at the very beginning of our tour. Let me just tell you how happy he made our son!!!

As for transportation, we were staying at the Fort and we took the boat to the contemporary and walked from there, it isn't that far.

Have a fabulous time!!!

We took a bus from Pop when we did the tour. They start the buses early for breakfasts and things so it was no problem. Your resort should be able to tell you when the first MK bus will come to your resort so you can plan once you get there.

The buses to the Magic Kingdom will get you there in time. They start running very early for the morning tours and dining reservations. I think you're supposed to arrive at 7:15 for a 7:30 tour.

When are you hoping to do the tour? Disney has cancelled it until Monorail Purple is repaired.
