Good Night Maelstromers

LY/MI

Please no more clowns, ok. Please. And no Chuckie's or evil dolls either pirate:

Hey there fellow night owl!

How was the toaster shopping? Hope you had a good day.

Hi all my maelstroming buds! I am not naming names, cause I don't want any one to be a crybaby (like me)

Clowns and dolls and vacuums! Oh my! Don't you people have anything better to do on a Friday night than terrorize the poor newbie? :rotfl2: :rotfl: And Horseyponypoodliechickiebaby (damn, this gets longer every time I type it), why oh why did you keep setting up Lou that way? You just knew what was going to happen, and you did it anyway. Don't feed him straight lines -- he eats those up the way Ronald McDonald eats children (apparently).

Having stayed up too late to catch up on the zaniness, I will now go to bed, where I shall undoubtedly dream of killer clowns and rampaging vacuums. Yeah, good choice I made in catching up on the thread. :sad2:

ok folks, I am wide awake, bored to tears and it is 3 am, no matter what time my posting clock thingamagiggy says, and I feel like boring you to death with some pictures of Emily and me at Disney.

But first a little story. Maybe not so little, sorry.

When I was a kid my mom and aunt used to drive us all (I am one of five kids remember)down to Disney every year during presidents week. Why mom and aunt? Because my aunt is a saint (mom is too) and my dad never wanted to go. Really she is a saint. Five kids, none of which were hers and she split the bill halvsies with my mom the whole way. And she put up with us and she didn’t kill any of us, which I am sure we would have deserved at several points during those trips. We did this trip for about ten or twelve years in a row, and it never got old.

My father never went with us. He hated playgrounds, never went there either, he would see all the possible ways for kids to get hurt. He also hated the Disney parks, for good reason I guess. He and my mom brought my two older sisters there in the early 70's, maybe 72 or 73? Anyway, I wasn’t born yet, so it was before 74. They were walking around the park and my oldest sister was following my dad as they were walking down main street. You know the way that kids do...mom has on blue shorts and sandals...dad has tan shorts and sneakers....

So as they are all walking along, my sister holds my father’s hand and turns out, that isn’t dad. She had been following the wrong shorts for a while. Luckily the park wasn’t so crowded and the family she was following were really nice. They put her on a garbage can and left her there. No, they didn’t leave her, but they did stand her on top of the garbage can. Which was really helpful because my dad is pretty darn tall. He was about to have a heart attack because his little girl was missing, but luckily they found each other. Anyway, it was thirty years before he went to Disney again if you get the idea of how much he hated it.

Anyway, we used to drive from NY and make the trip in a day and half. Most of the way mom would yell that she would “turn the car around RIGHT NOW” if we didn’t behave....but we never believed her because we knew that she wanted to be there as much as we did.

We loved these trips. Absolutely loved them. When I read about everyone’s special memories of their parents on a certain ride or in a certain area of disney, I think about my mom and my aunt. And for me it isn’t one ride or area, it is the whole world! And different stretches of I 95. I can picture us all at different spots throughout the years. Pointing out signs for ‘South of the Border’ for about 100 miles before we get there. The first official sighting of a palm tree, stomping our feet and pounding our hands on the car roof when we finally cross the florida border. Depression that sinks in when you realize florida is a long state to drive through also. And the joy of actually stopping and settling in at the hotel, (no Disney hotels for us, way to rich for our blood then). Cannon ball jumping in the outdoor, non-heated pool as soon as we were out of the car no matter what the weather. But nothing topped the euphoria of the first morning entrance into the Magic Kingdom. Absolute bliss. And my youngest brother squeaking “Winnie World! Winnie World!” with increasing volume, frequency and pitch (squeakiness?). He was about three at the time we started these trips and never let him live it down. He also wasn’t in a car seat and was rarely seat belted in, I guess we were living dangerously. Oh wait, it was very early 80's, we weren’t required to be belted in yet, were we?

To me it was home. My home. And my inheritance, because for the longest time I thought my grandfather was Walt Disney. No kidding, I thought Grandpa was THE Walt Disney. I have the pictures to prove how much they looked alike. So I really thought that Disney World was my home. And future.

We never had plans for the parks (as far as I can remember) we just went with the flow. Start in Tomorrowland every time and circle our way around the park. I have memories of us from so many different trips in each area of the park. The best of course was when we would end our night on main street and watch the parade and fire works. I have read somewhere here from some great authors how they cry when the entered the parks. Not me. Always when I left, even if it was just the first day. I would cry because I was so happy and to me a day in Disney was a day in heaven. It didn’t matter if we kids fought with each other, or got in trouble with mom or with our aunt. It was all forgotten by evening. Because then we only remembered the good times that we spent with each other.

Anyway, once my daughter was born, I knew that I wanted to, no needed to bring her to Disney to experience the magic, and visit Great Grandpa of course. And without a doubt, Grandma had to be there for Emily’s first taste of Disney. On our five day trip we may have made it onto ten rides, but that didn’t matter. We experienced a part of Disney that we hadn’t really felt before. The slower pace of Disney with a baby. We had the opportunity to take in the quiet areas and really savor each moment. Emily was 16 months old on that first trip. She was a very good baby and loved to people watch. We all enjoyed that trip very much.

I have a few pictures to post from that trip.

This is really my favorite photo, the magic of meeting your hero. Pooh was Emily's favorite movie and toy and bedtime book at that time in her life.

Proof that we were maelstroming way back in 97 and enjoying the wait for the Norway movie

Does anyone else remember when the castle was a cake for the
25 anniversary? It looks like Emily is saying "Granma, i want that cake!"

MORNING STROMERS! (I think that covers everyone, right?)

Fell asleep with the kids last night. Early. I feel much better this morning. Oh, yeah, the kid - she feels better too, thanks for asking. But back to ME . . . I had to get up with the boy at @ 12:30, almost stopped at the computer to see if the chat was still going, but went back to bed instead.

On to today, should I go see the Thunderbirds (our local airshow), or should I have DH take me shopping? If shopping, I have to decide between new clothes or a sewing machine (so that I can stop borrowing.) I'm actually rather torn about this decision. I want both, but have a hard time spending the money on either.

Oh, and Lou, thanks SO MUCH for the clown pictures. Really. That was your idea of giving me a laugh? The only thing funny about them was watching everyone go into fits of hysteria. Except the Ronald in the police car, I delude myself into thinking that was JUST for me.

Okay, going back to catch up. Page two was simply unacceptable, so I posted before reading.

And because I am the only one who's awake yet

:welcome: to LKK! I love having newcomers!

Actually I was going to post my flat tire story if you hadn't already read it (I may have posted it on a riddle once). I even mentioned it before you disappeared and all the clowning around started.

And the thought did cross my mind that you have tossed a few clowns behind bars...... ;) :rotfl:

Morning Lou - I know I have read a flat tire story, was it yours? No telling. But the story I read was funny enough for repeating, if it was, in fact the same one. So tell away.

Good morning everyone! It's Saturday! Amy, if you go to the air show - enjoy it! I have thought about going down there. Not sure if we will or not. Hope everyone has a great day!

Blessings!

It is raining here today. Again. This is the 4th straight day. Although the last couple of days, to be fair, were just overcast and drizzly. Today it is pouring. Piper asked me this morning "When is the sunshine going to be back?"

We watched Napoleon Dynamite last night and dh and Alicia made me turn off the computer. (usually I DIS while watching movies). I was told I'd either love it or hate it, and I guess I'd say I love it. Napoleon reminds me a little bit of a friend of mine from high school.

Welcome, LittleLadyKaty!!! Have I seen you somewhere before? And by the way, we had our dd2 sleep in the closet at SSR. WITH the vacuum. OMG, what have I done? Horsey, it's a good thing you're close by. Syddaneeee is going to need your services.

I'm glad to have missed all the clowning and vacuuming. eeeeeeps!

Lou your flat tire story was great!!!! :rotfl:

Em's Mom -- LOL about you thinking Walt was your grandpa. That is too cute. The photos of her are adorable too!

I need my morning cuppa. Tea. Earl Grey. Hot.

Because I missed all the fun yesterday.....

And because I loved Lou's tire story and I think he deserves a little of his own medicine from a couple hundred pages back.....

And just because I couldn't stop laughin at this one.....

Welcome to LLK.

Or is it LTT? Or MLK? Or LL Cool J?

Kidding. Because ANYBODY that quotes my trip report not once but TWICE and tells poop stories all on their first day deserves this........

Ems Mom: Loved the story and the pics. :thumbsup2

GeorgiaA: Sorry to hear about your DD. My DD also does the coughing till she throws up thing. It's bad enough when it happens at home but a totally different animal when it's in the backseat of the minivan on the way back from the ped's office. At least we weren't in the Wal Mart meat department again. Hope your sweetie's feeling better soon.

Frickles: I can sooooo identify with you and the staph thing. That's basically what happened to DS when he had his surgery. We just thought it was a harmless ant bite until we found out it wasn't. We sent him to school that morning with a band aid on it and when he came home that day, OMG. It was as big as Texas. Scary how fast that stuff turns really ugly.

Hoop Loved the Lil Grumpy rap. Hey, you can team up with Marky Mark. I bet you and Paslea just sit around your house crackin each other up. Yall are too funny.

kpk89: Loved your post on that Maelstrom thread. Yep, it's a fastpass, people.

And to all the Maelstomers that like it and you know who you are:

((((((((((((((((slap)))))))))))))))))

Yeah, Kim, isn't this weather the pitts? According to weather.com....this is supposed to go on for another week! Well, I guess I'd rather have it now than in the middle of July. I like my summer sun.

Lou, going to read the flat tire story now.

PP, PLEASE, don't get it started again!

Melons,
Can you please keep Mark's grovelling down to a minimum. I'm gonna need a new keyboard soon. :lmao: :lmao:

Hey PASLEAPOOH! I found you a new keyboard. Here it is. Right in front of this lovely woman...

PAA132000060.jpg

Oh but wait a minute. What's going on here? Is that ZZUB? What's he doin' to his secretary?

PAA132000061.jpg

Yeah, he's stealing the keyboard. Look at him. Unbelievable. Poor lady.

PAA132000062.jpg

Should've known. He just needed another one too so he could do this to it...again...in a wifebeater.... What's up with strippin down to the undies, ZZUB? Not that we would mind if you were, say, beside a lake or something.

PAA132000058.jpg

Sorry PasleaPooh. I tried. But you know how that ZZUB is. ;)
