We are having ham Xmas day, but I am sick of cooking for office get togethers! This is 2 in 2 days. I don't even like the people all that much.
Hey that's how I was when I was an accountant at a Bank. I trully disliked those people, and I dispised cooking for them all. :rotfl2:

No dh does NOT understand at all. :sad2:
He may change his mind. Is he going with you at all, it might help him to understand where you are if he goes with you.

What are you cooking for Christmas? I was going to cook a Boston Butt, but DH wants a ham. So I got a Smithfield Spiral Sliced and will make homemade Mac & Cheese. My mom will make me Corn Pudding (YUMMY!!!!!!!).
I know you weren't asking me...but we are having:
1. beef roast in the crock pot (seasoned with salt, pepper and onions)
2. mashed taters (with butter, salt and pepper)
3. home made noodles (YUM...from scratch...rolled out, cut into "strings" and then cooked in chicken broth) seasoned with salt and pepper.
4. corn (again the salt and pepper)
5.dinner rolls
6. Christmas cookies and candy from the stockings

NOTHING fancy...but yum, yum, yummy!! And most of the work will be done the night before so that I can relax and enjoy the day with the family instead of spending it in the kitchen. The boys will only be little once!!

That's a good idea.

Jay do you live in Mo? My BIL is from there, and he has homemade noodles on Christmas and Thanksgiving. I had never thought of it as a holiday dish until I met him. I am wondering if it is a regional thing?

That sounds terrific to me!! We have our big dinner on Christmas Eve with my parents, then off to our church. We used to go to my parents and dad would preach on Christmas Eve, but now he does a Christmas Morning Service at the church he pastors now. It would be too hard to get to their house with the girls in the morning. So, we do it now on Christmas Eve with them. We then have a late dessert with friends until 9:30 then the girls are off to bed and we wait fro Santa.

no I don't think he'd go. he says if he's not depressed neither should I be.

We have Cajun ham.

Nope...we live in KY now and I grew up in WI...and I had never had homemade noodles in my life (let alone thought they had to be part of every Christmas/Thanksgiving dinner) until I met dh and went "down home" with him. He grew up in Southern IL about 3 hours from St. Louis. His grandma used to make them and I got hooked!! She taught me how and now she is too old to do them herself so dh's sister and I make them at Thanksgiving together (dh's mom is NOT a cook of any kind...the only noodles she makes come from a box). I make the noodles myself on Christmas and one or two other times a year. They are simple (but work intensive) and oh so good!

Well, maybe if he sees a change in you that is positive, he'll be willing to give it a try. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Our Christmas Eve's used to be spent with my entire extended family until midnight and then we would go to church. Christmas Day was always our day as "our family" then. Since we moved it is a little bit different. We go to chuch at about 7:00 PM on Christmas Eve and then come home and open the gifts from each other that night. On Christmas morning we open our gifts from Santa and veg out in our PJs and then we have a big late lunch. Ahhh...I miss family around the holidays...but it is also really nice to have time to just be alone together and make memories all our own!!

She was having stomach problems earlier today. Pretty painful from the way it sounded. :guilty:
Is this related to an illness of some kind? Or did she eat something that upset her stomach? I hope she's ok!!!

I think it was just a thing that happened. Apparently happens to most of us but because of some other health problems, it was more painful for her than for the average person.

Stick with it for YOU Paige. His feelings are not your feelings....sometimes even those we love best just cannot understand. It's not that anything is wrong with either of you...but we all have different needs and we also all have different ways of dealing. Either he will eventually get it or he won't...but you will be better (for you and for him) no matter what! :grouphug:

I couldn't agree more!!! My parents used to try and have the big family get together with my brother and sister and their families, but now they have moved away so the family thing falls on me. So we try very hard to make it nice for my parents, but we wish to have our own traditions with our girls. I don't necessarily want to recreate what I had as a girl. I'm not trying to be snarky, but we want our own traditions.

That's not snarky...just a loving mom who wants to soak up every minute with her kids while they are still little!! MORE POWER TO YOU!! :thumbsup2

Mine are old enough now that I usually have to wake them up on Christmas morning rather than the other way around. :guilty:
