Grrr... what to do?

My friend from Iowa just called and asked if I was still up for a baby shower on Sunday the 13th when we're back for a wedding. I think it's too late to put together a guest list and get invites sent out. She thinks it would be OK.

She doesn't have a location picked out and I told her I thought her house was kinda far out for some of my family to drive to and find (it's about 40 minutes North of my hometown).

Do I try and put a list together and see who can make it with just over a week's notice? I had decided it was too late when no one had called at 3 weeks out to set anything up.

Do it then act surprised Then you get a shower but she looks the dummy for planning so last minute. I would give her the addresses and walk away. Anyone asks then just tell them she asked you for peoples addresses but didn't have any details.

I am sure your family and friends want to celebrate with you.

And btw it would drive me nuts too but I am learning to go with the flow. (doesnt work most days but I am trying )

A week wouldn't be enough notice for me, but if everyone is in the same general area... knows that you are pregnant... and will be there for the wedding... they might be expecting it anyway.

If your friend is willing to be the one to try and get everyone together, let her go for it. What's the worst that will happen? You and your family will get together and have a good time even if nobody else shows. What are the location options?

Well, there is a community room that is free, but it usually books up fast, no idea if it's available. It's in a town my DH grew up in and it's kind of in the middle of where everyone would be coming from. That would be my first choice.

She also suggested a room at a restaurant in my hometown, but DH's sister was supposed to help with this shower and I'm not sure she would want to pay for food from the restaurant.

This whole thing is stressing me out. I thought that when I hadn't heard from anyone last weekend that it just wasn't going to happen.

I had also made tentative plans with my side of the family to get together for lunch or something that day so I could see everyone since the wedding is Saturday at 2 with DH's family, so it pretty much takes up the whole day that way.

This is why I got married in Vegas. My simple reception back home was enough stress for me without the full blown wedding!!!

Don't stress it. It is not your fault that they have waited until the last minute. Tell your friend your preference for the community room. If it is available, great. If not, tell your friend that THEY have to work out the details. Maybe you could turn your tentative plans into the shower? I don't know. Either way, it is not your responsiblity to figure it all out.

Southeast Iowa, I'm from Keokuk, DH is from Donnellson, best friend and DH's sister live on different sides of Houghton out in the country. Very small towns. Donnellson has the community room. I guess I could call the bank and see if it's booked.

Well, the house is medium-clean. I got the floors vacuumed and then the dogs came in(even though I thought they had dried off in the garage) and left footprints--I gotta go over it again but will wait til the kids go to bed. Dh called to warn me he's coming home--thought that maybe I'd freak if he came in at 10 tonight and wasn't expecting him (Ya think? ) I have reheated all the leftovers from KFC plus a few others lying in the fridge and that is dinner for tonight--we have to go to BScouts to hand out plastic bags for the food drive. Yippee.
