The look of the Teenage Boy

Nothing's wrong with expressing yourself, IMO. Life's too short - have fun with it.

:thumbsup2

I don't know... they can move out if they really want. (Not really... but we'll see when we get there) I'm not having any boys of mine looking like girls.

Flame all you want, but it's not happening.

That's a shame. As a teenager, their 'looks' or style will be (should be) the least of your worries, honestly.

I had a teen with hair longer than me, drug free and a stellar athlete. I didn't care what he wore, or how long his hair got. The important stuff was taken care of.

I am really not a fan of skinny jeans on anyone except really teeny females (size 2 and under). I am hoping they drift out of style soon as they are very unflattering on most people.

I work at a college and only a very small percentage of the guys there wear this look. Most of them wear t-shirts and cargo shorts or jeans. I did have one student I called "The Hair" though (in good fun)- he spent more time on his hair than any of the female students in that class.

I am SO glad my son wears a uniform everyday to school. And, his school has a haircut rule. :thumbsup2

Lol! This thread makes me laugh. The age old fight that's been happening forever it seems. My Grandparents weren't sure about my dad's character as he had hair below his ears. That was back in the early 70's. Now, they have to deal with my DH's hair that is down his back. Both passed the good character test after they got to know them, which is really all that matters. I, personally, don't like the preppy style, but that's just me. To each his own and my DD's can wear whatever they like within reason and age appropriate.

I am not, nor will I ever be, a parent who obsesses about what my sons wear or how long their hair is, and I think it's sad when such things are given undue importance. I'd rather concentrate on their values and ethics. We've tried to raise them to be kind, caring, hard-working young men and the length of their hair or style of their jeans just isn't in the equation.

lacross_lady72 -- I have a child older than you. I'm confident you will recognize what is important and what isn't by the time you have teens of your own. Length of hair and style of clothes (as long as it's decent) are definitely among the latter.

My son is one of "them". He wears the baggy jeans, but his tees cover anything that night show. Also, he has the hair that looks in desperate need of a cut..LOL! That being said, he is an incredible child. He has A's and B's, does not get into trouble, and besides the occasional eye roll or sigh (he's a teen boy), we do not have ANY trouble with him. My parents didnt have the money when we were kids for nice clothes, so I do try with him, as far as Aeropostle (sp?), Southpole, and such. If he's happy, I am happy.

Looking at your avatar - thats how my younger son is. :thumbsup2

And let me tell you - not having a kid care about brands, like a poster mentioned her son would be wearing, is fantastic.

My older son acted like he hit the jackpot when, on a run to Michaels, he saw the "5 for $10" plain T's and asked for 5.... I said "get 10!" He was like this: :cool1:

$20 for 10 shirts versus 1? He can wear whatever he wants! :thumbsup2

Since some of you seem to be so understanding of things... perhaps you can understand and respect my decision? I'm not hurting anyone anyway...

I (personally) am not picking on you. I swear.

But I think what (at least me) we are saying, is there's big ol' fish to fry at that age, and the least of your worries should be that. That's all.

One of my long hair'd older son's friend....he was always decked out in Abercrombie, and AE. Clean cut hair - in fact a buzz cut. And.... big into steroids, got into some other choice drugs as well. Still a drug user. You'd never know by looking at him though. Looks like the boy next door. Resembles Malcolm - from Malcolm in the Middle. Cute kid.

Another one sadly passed away 2 years ago this month. Very clean cut - heroin over dose. I posted about it here, when it happened. So sad. :guilty:

Am I saying that all clean cuts are drug addicts - of course not. But, it's just some food for thought.

LOL! His jeans are usually Arizonas from JCP. We catch them on sale, for around $14.99. He wears a 30/34, so its HARD to find his size. What he does really like are the name brand shirts more than anything. He did get some Southpole jeans for Christmas, but on black friday they were $19.99!!! :cool1: The shirts are cheaper, so were more than happy to buy them. Shoes are getting expensive. He is 13 and wears a mens 10, but isnt too hard on them, so we do spend a little more. He can make them last an entire school year, so no complaints there! Now if he could only keep his room clean...

Shoe size is a problem for my brother.. he's been about a size 15 mens since he was 14 :rotfl:

Well, you have the jeans issue - but normal feet.

My 14 y/o is in size 13/14 shoes. He could wax those things up, and ski on them. Complete pain in the butt finding shoes. :headache:

Here's my younger one. We were messing around at a thrift store (it's amazing how much time they'll spend with you, when you ground them. I highly recommend it, for mother/son bonding. ;) ) Look at those FEET!

ETA - notice that snazzy white T shirt? That's a Michaels 5 for $10-er. He followed what his brother did. Yeeha! ;)

Here's a thread (with pics) about the older one. I actually *loved* his hair:

Love his hair. I have 2 boys, the older one keeps his hair short, but the youngest one has the surfer look. Even his teachers were upset with us when we cut his hair short. I told them it wasn't our idea, he had begged to get it cut and we gave in, Never again. Some boys actually do look better with longer hair.

My son got his cut short a few months ago. He told them what he wanted, and they butchered it. He looked horrible with short hair. (Maybe because he is 5'10, 120, skinny as a rail). We have never went back there. His hair is finally grown out, and he looks wonderful!

See... those are great pants, imo!

Yeah - neither of my boys like the skinny jeans, but both like long hair.

However my step son likes the skinny jeans, and has short hair.

Go figure. :confused3

My older son's teachers, a few of them would ask "Can I touch your hair?" and my son reported they all would end up saying something along the lines of "Women PAY to have hair like this - it's not fair that a GUY has it" :rotfl:

Tomador, this very topic drives my husband CRAZY! We have an almost 12 year old son, and while we can control what he is wearing or his hair, we let him venture out to see what his choice of style would be. He dresses pretty decent overall, but he's going for the long hair, over the ears, have to brush it out of his eyes every 20 seconds look. In all honesty, I'm tired of it....and the beginning of January, he will be choosing a new cut, or my husband will be choosing one for him. ;) (I can't STAND skinny jeans on guys though. YUCK!)
