the little black kitten

Forget all this angel baloney....As someone who has had many "pound puppies and kittens" and has worked at a vet's, it's people who do not spay their pets who cause all those baby animals to be put to sleep.

Just wondering if everyone on this thread has spayed all their animals?
That is who the true heroes are.

Why is it bologna? Why isn't it possible that an angel knew oliver deserved a bit of love before he died?

I'm a rescuer.. I just helped in rescuingt 12 puppy mill dogs who are so sick it's amazing some are still alive.... but FC isn't the reason that kitten was at the shelter. He is one of the good guys who went to a shelter to save a kitten he thought was unadoptable because of his bad leg....

I don't know why you had to put a damper on FC's special story by calling it bologna and criticizing... he knows many animals are put to sleep.. he even said so.

Poor Oliver. :sad1:
That picture of Olive makes her look like one of those "stay away from me" kitties. Splash does that sometimes when I give her too many hugs. :) Splash is spayed too. :thumbsup2 As was Lucy.

Hmmm, I don't think that post was meant to attack the OP. I think he or she was just trying to make a statement about the real reason all these poor animals end up in shelters in the first place.

I'm not sure if all shelters do it, but alot do. They require the pet to be spayed before it can be adopted. Some shelters here will do it themselves & try to re-coup some cost thru adoption fees. But they can't do that on kittens. They have to wait till 6 mths old I think.

Why, yes actually, I have. Two cats and two dogs and not a fertile one in the bunch!;)

They can spay them very early on now... when they're quite small:)

Even better! :thumbsup2 Its been 18 yrs since I had to have a cat spayed. She's still kicking. :goodvibes But now my vet bills are high at the old age stage.

I've got a 18 yr old cat who requires fluids by IV every single day - for the past 2 years. Pisses up a storm because of it. So constantly changing litter box. Occasionally throwing up, but expect that to get worse as her kidney disease progresses. And we go thru countless cans of food a day just to ensure that she will eat something so she doesn't lose any more weight.

BUT, she's in good spirits still. Not in pain. Still loves to play with toys & get brushed. And wants constant attention.

Sometimes I think we are the home for geriatric cats with kidney disease. This is the 2nd cat we've been thru this with.

I REALLY doubt others would have done this for this long. Sometimes I'm surprised she's still around. LOL Its putting a damper on any traveling. Oh well. We love Splash.

Yes, I agree. It should be a law.

Bob Barker Rules!

We have a wonderful vet who'll spay/neuter at four months--taking the breed and overall health into consideration, of course. He only started doing this in the last few years, as the age for safe altering has been lowered. :thumbsup2

I wish all the best for your sweet Splash--it sounds like she's had a wonderful life. Our 14 year old dog, Cookie (the fawn Chihuahua in the pic below), has diabetes, and is partly blind and deaf, but still has a good quality of life, and we'd do anything for her, too. They do wiggle their way into your heart, don't they?

Totally OT: SplsMtn99, I've always wanted to tell you how much I enjoy your posts. You've got a good sense of humor and a lot of common sense. :)

They are my heros too. They are also my DH's "co-workers". :thumbsup2

Yeah. I agree.
For the other poster: It's a great thing to do in order to control the pet population, I just wouldn't go so far as to classify a person who has their pet fixed a "hero." :confused3

Oh gee, thanks. Cookie is a cutie. My Splash is deaf too. I always seem to forget that for some reason. :rolleyes1 Probably because I still talk to her all the time. :goodvibes

You're trying SO hard!

FC, I'm happy to see the picture of Olive. I remember when you told me about her, and it's nice to see what she looks like. She's a lucky cat.:thumbsup2

Looks just like Loki, Winnie and Gimli. All three of them all black. Gimli is at Rainbow Bridge, Loki is in Ohio with my oldest and Winnie is in here bugging me as usual.
