The link says it all.

True but still. Where did you hear that he didnt like Jews. My great grandmother came from Germany in the 50's and still talks about dis-likeing the Jews. So i guess its how society plays a part in how you think.

All over the place. Heard it from my brother, heard it from school. I dunno, it's just what I heard.:confused3

I still think they should stick to the book, and ONLY the book.

I think it's only really a widespread rumor that he didn't like Jews or their beliefs. I've read it in several places, but I can't say it's true.

That cannot be true, and I've read some of his biographies.

Besides, there are tons of things Walt didn't believe in, like making sequels. HOW MANY original Disney movies now have sequel's after Walt's death?

I am SO offended.

Walt didn't like Jews...
not only that, but if they CHANGE the story in any way...

That is SO offensive, because this is a girls LIFE. It completely offends everything she had to go through.

I am against this 100 percent.
I really don't think that's true, Jess. You shouldn't believe everything you hear.

And how is it OFFENSIVE to you? The movie hasn't even came out! How is publishing her book any different than making it a movie?

Uhm, do you realize that there are COUNTLESS movies based on her diary out? Disney definitely is not the first, and won't be the last to make a movie about her life.

I know jumping to conclusions is extremely bad, but lately movies haven't been to swell, and saying that they may not stick to her book...

If they're going to make an Anne Frank movie, they should stick to HER life. Not add anything, not take away major details.

i dunno about you guys, but that seems pretty anti-jew to me. and before anyone tells me "thats not real" well, yes it is. it was banned almost immediately after it was released (sort of like song of the south) and its not the only one like it.

but you have to take into account the TIME that he was from. A LOT of people didn't like jews. just like a lot of people didn't like black people. times change, and he's from an older time. disney is no longer in the veins it was once part of, with cartoons like that. just because walt himself didn't like jews, doesn't mean that they can't make an anne frank movie. because, surprise surprise, walt disney died.

Thank you, Shelby.

I didn't mean it like "NO, NOT WALT" becaue they do go against everything Walt pretty much wanted (Mickey Mouse wasn't even his idea)...even when he WAS alive. It's not like we worship the man.

but it sure did come across like that.

I just find it ironic I guess?

i thought walt did want a mouse, he just wanted to name it mortimer mouse instead of mickey mouse?

Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.

That was his original idea. I guess that didn't hit it off too well, so they decided on a "Mouse" (which is funny, because Walt didn't like mice at all) and he wanted to name it "Mortimer" but his wife thought differently. So Mickey it was.

he had horrible name ideas. lol.
oswald?
mortimer?

As long as they don't change any of the big details, I don't have a problem with it.

And how do you know they won't? You're getting 'offended' before it's even been written!

What do you mean, 'lately movies haven't been too swell'? That's your opinion. I like all the recent DisneyPixar movies. They're not like the classic animated, but they're cute and funny.

No, Walt did come up with the mouse. He just wanted to name it Mortimer.

I don't post on the TB much but..

They could be releasing it through Touchstone.
They release their "more adult" films there because it's not under the Disney name.
Like they released the Nightmare Before Christmas there because they thought it was too dark.

Shelby, that certainly was an interesting cartoon.

All I have to say is I hope to God Tim Burton doesn't get his hands on that movie. Can you imagine how that would come out?

Yes, that is an opinion.

Calm down, Jenny.

When I say something like "Movies haven't been to great lately", that is an opinion.

I am not inforcing you to believe what I say, I thought this thread was for our opinions so I posted mine.

You can certainly have yours too.

Disney is KNOWN for changing storylines. Look at Pocahontas. I'm not saying that it's going to be a happy disney cartoon, but I hate it when Disney changes storylines around to make them better, or leave things out and that is MY opinion.

I didn't know I had to state when I had one.
In school they taught us the difference between a fact and an opinion without having to say "IMO" after everything.

So just calm down.

You see, the way you came off made it sound like you thought it was fact, not your opinion.
Maybe you're the one who should calm down because Jenny didn't sound as offended as you seem to think she was. :confused3 JMO. ;)

I'm calm. Thanks for your advice though.

Look, the way you were stating it sounded like you meant it to be a fact. It would've sounded like an opinion if you had said 'I think Disney movies haven't been to swell lately'.

Apparently, we're just not reading each other's posts very well. :goodvibes

I'm in the party of 'we should give it a chance', and I guess you're not. Personally, I think Anne Frank is a very sensitive topic, and I trust that Disney will handle it with respect. If you choose not to, well then, that's your right.
