THE LIBERAL THREAD #3- No Debate Please

And when you don't accept their viewpoints, or try to rationally use facts and logic to debate, you are "hateful" and "irrational." My favorite is when we're called intolerant for not embracing their narrow-mindedness.

Over the past several months before the election, I suppose I've become immune to the "my perspective is the only one that could be right for anyone" rhetoric which the reactionary extremists practice with enthusiasm. The berating of non-Christian perspectives by some Christians isn't really surprising to me; the contention, put forward by some folks (hopefully a small, atypical minority of Christians), that non-Christian perspectives could not possibly have value to anyone just demonstrates the reactionary problem that exists in our society -- the reactionary problem that helped convince me to vote for the liberal candidate this year.

Just stepping back, though -- as objectionable as their conduct is, in that regard, it seems to me that the manner in which some folks put forward the contention that their own special brand of Christian perspective is the only one that could be right for any Christian -- isn't that even more objectionable? I can imagine how insulting some of the comments in that thread would be (specifically) to liberal Christians.
Which thread is this?

That, too. I'm agnostic now, but I was raised Catholic, and when I read some very generalizing posts by non-Catholic Christians saying "this is how it is" or "the Bible is very clear on this" that go against Catholic teaching, I have to point it out. I'm not saying the Catholic perspective is the right one regarding Christianity, and there are things I agree with and things I disagree with, so I'm not sticking up for Catholicism nor bashing it. It's just that it's obvious that Christians don't agree on many things, even the important stuff like the requirements for salvation.

Good Morning Jen!!!

Thanks for the daily updates!!! It is so exciting..even if those on the other side of the aisle are desperately trying to stop it...;)

OH and BTW..I think the FTitis may require an ambulance.

Good morning! I miss my ticker and my Audrey avatar. *sniff* :sad1:

Deepak Chopra responded to Sean Hannity regarding his recent appearance on FOX:

I sent the following letter to Sean Hannity recently in response to his misrepresentation of what I said on his show regarding the Mumbai terrorist attacks. I have not received any response back from him. Today I read it aloud on my Sirius-XM radio program and am now making it public here as well.

Dear Sean,

I saw a report about last night's show that quotes you as follows:

"Hannity continued by saying, "We had Deepak Chopra on last night and he's blaming America! ...He was blaming America for the attacks in Mumbai and I challenged him on it and I'm like, 'Wait a minute. You've done so well in America. Why are you blaming us?' We protect 100% of the world's population. We're 4% of it."

I am really disappointed in you. Do you not remember your other guest when I was on, former Defense Secretary Bill Cohen? He made the same point I did about America's policy toward the jihadists: "Are we creating more terrorists than killing them?" Ironically, this question is attributed to Donald Rumsfeld.

It really doesn't matter to me personally whether you agree with me or not. Leaving our debate aside, your habit of taking statements out of context and playing the blaming game is sad. You have a powerful platform that influences many people. Why do you use your influence to monger fear, militancy, divisiveness, and jingoism?

I was hoping to come back on your show and have a reflective, intelligent dialogue, but perhaps the attack mode is the only way you know to make a living. The best excuse for your dishonest accusations against me is that you don't believe what you're saying. The far right has deflated, so you are there to pump it up with hot air. If you stop blowing, you'll be out of a job. I empathize.

Love,
Deepak

PS: No one expects the right wing to change, but for what it's worth, they have entered an era of reconstruction. They've lost both their power and their credibility. Instead of trying to educate me about being an American, you might want to re-educate yourselves about dirty pool and below-the-belt attacks. Just a thought.

Hannity is a tool. :sad2:

Wow. I got slapped with a 10 pt. citation for politely defending someone. I hope that the rude people on the other side are punished too.

Me too. I could care less. My photograph was less than interesting.

Hey, we're both going to Disney!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My favorite is when they whine about free speech and then they run like babies to the mods. When you have said nothing.

'Cause believe me kids, I didn't spend three years in evil lawyer school and not know how to say something mean and cutting when I want to.

Thanks for sharing that! Elizabeth Hasselback, that epitomy of virtue, actually had to apologize on the View for her comments about him ( Chopra) on the show..:thumbsup2

Actually I was kind of intrigued by the stroller. I will shamefully admit to being a stroller ho. Is it a Maclaren double?

It's a double, a Twin Techno. There are only a few good double strollers out there and this is one of them. I also have a double BOB, which is the best stroller ever, but you really can't use it in the mall or anything.

Actually, the Macleren is only 32 inches wide but I'm often not able to get around easily in stores, so I usually complain that if I can't get my stroller in, they are violating the ADA because a wheelchair certainly couldn't get in either. Kind of explains why you see so few people out and about in wheelchairs. Sad.

Bugaboos were huge here for a while, but now it's the Orbit. $900 for a single stroller that can't be used much past infancy is a bit steep, IMHO, although my neighbor swears by hers.

Seriously, they should fire that Harpie.

I have the single Techno. It's our WDW packmule. My only complaint is the tippiness factor. We're gatechecking it tomorrow, I hope JetBlue doesn't destroy it.

I tried to like Elisabeth Hasselbeck in the spirit of embracing other views, but it didn't work. :confused3

Ohhh ... I had a single Techno that was a workhorse. My DD used it at WDW well past the weight limit and it kept on rolling.

Two words: status symbol

People spend ridicules amount of money on babies. I guess some folks would say the same about our Technos, but mine was the 4th (and last) stroller I purchased when the other three broke under our high travel lifestyle.

I don't know how many times I would yell: "DON'T STAND UP WITH THE BACKPACK ON THE HANDLES!!!". "What Mommy?" *thunk*
