The Liberal Thread #2 - No Debate Please

Obama has a clean conscience. He didn't endorse McCain.

So, should McCain win, he certainly should invite Hillary and Bill to an inaugural ball. He absolutely owes them for their kind and generous fully qualified as commander in chief endorsement.

The day they endorsed McCain the Clintons made it clear they have little or no loyalty to the Democratic Party.... To me, that's reason enough why Clinton should not be the nominee.

I know when Pelosi said that the SDs will follow the the will of the people, I just factored in the number of SDs that have not yet pledged their allegiance. Now her SDs are even saying they'll jump if Obama has the lead. Since HRC cannot overcome his lead without SDs, this is over folks.

Clinton superdelegate says she'll vote for pledged delegate leader at the convention
Obama’s pledged delegate lead is nearly impossible to erase, so if this becomes a trend it’s bad news for the Clinton campaign:

U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell, one of Washington’s 17 Democratic superdelegates, isn’t ready to shift her allegiance from Sen. Hillary Clinton to Sen. Barack Obama — yet.

But in an interview with The Columbian’s editorial board Monday, she said the candidate with the most pledged delegates at the end of the primary season in late June will have the strongest claim to the party’s presidential nomination.

“I definitely don’t want the superdelegates to be the deciding factor,” she said.

“If we have a candidate who has the most delegates and the most states,” the Democratic party should come together around that candidate, Cantwell said. The pledged delegate count will be the most important factor, she said, because that is the basis of the nominating process.

As far as I'm concerned, the magic number is 1627. That's the number of pledged delegates it will take to have more than half at the end of all primaries.

Current standings:

Obama 1414
Clinton 1247

Good for you! why let silly things like rules get in the way!

I bet Hillary is so proud today. After she took a dive into the mud of the controversy over Obama's pastor, it turns out he's had to cancel some appearances because he's getting death threats, his family is getting death threats, and the churches he's supposed to be visiting are getting threats.

But, poor Hillary, she just had to "honestly" answer the question about Obama's pastor when asked by a reporter. How could she possibly not? Did anyone else take notice of the giant pink pig that flew out Hillary's butt as she walked away.

Gee it couldn't possibly be that Wright is getting death threats because some people view his rant as racist, unpatriotic and plain old ignorant could it? It's gotta be Hillary's fault. Seriously people is there anything you won't blame on Hillary? Crop Circles, locusts, AIDs?

No, but Hillary's comments should be filed under the heading of "Don't add fuel to the fire".

Just once, I'd like to see her and her husband take the high road. Just once I'd like to see them pass up an opportunity to prove the Republican right had them pegged all along.

She did take the high road. She didn't say a word for over a week. And only when she was asked directly asked. Considering that this was a major issue - of course some kid of comment was appropriate. Her comments were pretty mild compared to what others have said.

They didn't "endorse" McCain. They simply pointed out that she and McCain are more evenly matched - that her record stands up to McCain better then Obama's.

She could've taken the high road and just answered with a "no comment". Instead she took the opportunity to try and prove how vastly superior she is with some ******** excuse that "she had to answer a direct question".

Funny, considering her and her husband have made a career out of not answering direct questions or coming up with lying answers to direct questions.

It's time the DNC steps in with a very public rebuke of Hillary's campaign. It's time Hillary was told that if she wants to take a page out of Karl Rove's book, she ought to join the GOP.

Not being snarky here, but I have a couple good friends who are Clinton supporters who had a "Wait a minute?!?!" moment when Bill talked about having a general election between two candidates who (paraphrasing here) "love their country instead of dealing with all the other nonsense". They still support her, but feel that Bill comments definitely hurt Hillary and the party.

Her record stands up to McCain's?

When it comes to bullets whizzing passed their heads, McCain had real bullets and Hillary dreamed hers up.

When it comes to the "CIC threshold", McCain was an officer in the military and former POW and Hillary's experience consists of ..... of ..... well, nothing.

And that's just for openers.

I believe our friends on the other side of the aisle are having the same discussion but toned down. Of course, they're Republicans. :lmao:

I gotta admit, those "tall tales" have got me scratching my head. I can't imangine it was intentional, because she and her campaign would have to know there were too many witnesses and film footage to dispute her story. On the other hand, I can't see how it's an inocent mistake, either, it's just too big of an "error". I don't know what the hell she was thinking! I support Obama, but was okay with Hillary if she got the nod. Now I'm not so sure. I mean, I'd still vote for her over McCain, but I don't think I'll be happy about it if it comes to that.

Me too, I'm at a loss to understand what's going on there. She is just WAY too smart a person to not know that a First Lady and her daughter coming under sniper fire would have made the news. :confused3

Admittedly I wouldn't be happy about it or agree that it was the right thing to do. But, I do believe strongly that the SDs have the right to vote whichever way they believe is right for the party.

Of course I do reserve the right to say "I told you so" if they pick Obama and he loses the general election - specifically if he loses by a wide margin which is what I suspect will happen.

And I reserve the right to say "I told you so" if Democrats supporting either Hillary or Obama refuse to support whichever one is nominated, sit home and sulk and hand the election to GW McCain. There are things on BOTH sides of this campaign that I haven't been happy about, but none of them worse than what a McCain presidency will do to our economy and the lives of our young people. How many more are going to have to die in this war and the one GW/Dick Cheney and John McCain can't wait to fight with Iran???

I'm sure they're pleased as punch that McCain's polling numbers are better than both Democratic candidates right now, but just wait...they'll get theirs!

From the actual article:

The "break his back threat" was not made by Hillary or even anyone from her campaign. It was made by a Dem "official" who didn't even have the guts to go on record with his name. For all we know it's the weekend janitor.

It's absolutely hilarious to me that you are so indignant about this comment. But you didn't even take the time to read it carefully. This article is someone's opinion - someone not affiliated with Hillary's campaign But hey, don't let that stop you from blaming it on Hillary.

The "break his back" comment is obviously a whiney Obama operative who equates HC's suggestion that walking out of a racist church would be something that she would do.....is a disgusting attack against St. Obama & the political equivilent of trying to "break his back".

Figures that BO supporters would accuse the "break his back" political analogy made by a neutral or BO operative to HC.

There is a lot of talk on the Clinton side that the supers have step in at some point, look at the electoral college and choose Clinton, even though she's down in pop vote, states won, and delegates. What if the supers all decided to throw their votes behind Obama tomorrow because, as I have heard many Clinton supporters state, they are free to make their own decisions. Would the Clinton supporters here consider that "fair", respect the decision of the party elders and get behind Obama in the general?

If she wins the popular vote the SuperDs will give it to her. (imo)

Reid & Pelosi are trying to push this to conclusion, but until Dean, Gore & Edwards have showed their hands, I'm not convinced this thing won't go past NC & Indiana.

(& for definition purposes, the popular vote will include the FL vote & some variation of the MI vote included).

So following that rationale, I guess we are to believe that the Clinton campaign planted the yahoo who asked McCain "How do we beat the *****?"? Just wonderin'...

OK...but you didn't answer my question...

It has to go on. It's the only real litmus test we have to know how damaged Obama is by the Wright situation. If he continues to do strongly in the rest of the primaries then there's a good chance that the Wright situation has been contained. If he doesn't do well it's a sign that the Wright situation has traction even with Dems.

Arbitrarily ending this without getting a real reading on how Dems feel will be a disaster imo.

Of course, Wright would never have been her pastor. Of course, she had to answer a question in an interview that appears in a newspaper that had accused her and Bill of covering up Vince Foster's "murder". How could the poor girl do anything else?

Hillary is everything the Republican rightwing has been saying she is. The former Bush supporters lament the fact that Bush pulled the wool over their eyes. I feel your pain.

Hillary needs a very public rebuke from a high-ranking SD and swift kick in her butt. The only saving grace about Hillary is, if she should get into the WH, she'll be the same ruthless ***** towards the Republicans. Let the games begin.

If HC hadn't answered the question about Pastor Wright, I would be disappointed in her. She has a responsibility to state her position & opinion regarding the comments made by BO's "moral compass".

Any perceived threats by sicko's were instigated by the video's themselves & BO's tepid comments (& rationalizations) he made in responding to it last week in his "speech".......but were not instigated by comments made by HC.

BO's whining & his Political operatives whining is becoming comical. (& i'm looking at YOU...Olbermann & Mathews.)

(& regarding Vince Foster's death. I'm sure he was a nice man & i hope he rests in peace. But in regards to anyone bringing it up.....whatever. Just "bring it on".....&/or whatever. )

OK...but you didn't answer my question...

If the question is should the SDs step in NOW & support either HC or BO in an attempt to end the nomination process, I wouldn't agree with it. I want to see how the final states vote & i want the vetting process of both candidates to continue for two more months.

- This primary season has been a tea party compared to others in times past.
- Vetting is paramount in a you tube, internet based electorate.
- If the final decision is made in June....it leaves 5 months to prepare for the Repubs.
- As long as the Convention isn't a circus, all this sniping that everyone is getting all emotional over will be forgotten.
- This primary season has been a tea party compared to what the general election will be.

There is nothing to discuss. This incident speaks for itself.

Have a nice day. Goodbye.
