The Liberal Thread #2 - No Debate Please

Obama's speech was an amazing speech. It's only been a few hours and has yet to be fully digested.

I would say it was along the lines of Lincoln's "better angels of our nature". Whatever negatives there are have to be searched for and regurgitated into something else. The words of that speech were plain and honest. No need for someone to tell you what it was you just heard. On a sad note, it won't stop the talking heads from trying. But, I digress.

It's going to be interesting to see the reaction build. My guess is Obama hit a grand slam out of the park.

As someone who still wonders why both Dukakis and Kerry both squandered the White House instead of fighting back against allegations deliberately thrown at them, this bodes well for Obama.

It's always amazed me that the hate spewed by some fundamentalist evangelical ministers and lay people gets a pass from some people, while any hint of the same from a denomination other than their own gets condemned vehemently. But, taken in the context you have described, I suppose it's understandable. Doesn't make it right, however, and people who subscribe to this double standard should be called out on it.

Doens't amaze me one bit. "I'm right and you're wrong because God says so" is the basis of most major religions.

Guess you didn't read the "Obama Speech" thread. Apparently he outed his grandmother as a racist for political gain and anyway, it was just a bunch of empty words writen by speech writers and PR people.

Some people just make up their minds and can't change them, all evidence aside. I almost understand, modern politics is enough to make anyone bitter. But when we close our minds we stop learning and growing, and every issue becomes black and white (no pun intended) with no shades of grey.

And some people just won't admit they got their knickers in a knot over something that has no legs. Searching in vain for any slim hint of scandal is just about all the "Nobama" Cons have to keep them going. Sad.

That's very true. But what's making me sad too are the people who would have voted Democrat are sounding like they won't vote at all if Obama gets the nom. I hope they realize they should vote or we may end up with President McCain.

Take a look at the Obama supporters saying they won't vote for Hillary. This is a two way train wreck.

Beat me to it. :thumbsup2

To get back to the real problem-get a load of what Middle East Expert John McCain said yesterday:

A McCain Gaffe in Jordan

By Cameron W. Barr and Michael D. Shear
AMMAN, Jordan -- Sen. John McCain, traveling in the Middle East to promote his foreign policy expertise, misidentified in remarks Tuesday which broad category of Iraqi extremists are allegedly receiving support from Iran.
He said several times that Iran, a predominately Shiite country, was supplying the mostly Sunni militant group, al-Qaeda. In fact, officials have said they believe Iran is helping Shiite extremists in Iraq.
Speaking to reporters in Amman, the Jordanian capital, McCain said he and two Senate colleagues traveling with him continue to be concerned about Iranian operatives "taking al-Qaeda into Iran, training them and sending them back."
Pressed to elaborate, McCain said it was "common knowledge and has been reported in the media that al-Qaeda is going back into Iran and receiving training and are coming back into Iraq from Iran, that's well known. And it's unfortunate." A few moments later, Sen. Joseph Lieberman, standing just behind McCain, stepped forward and whispered in the presidential candidate's ear. McCain then said: "I'm sorry, the Iranians are training extremists, not al-Qaeda."
The mistake threatened to undermine McCain's argument that his decades of foreign policy experience make him the natural choice to lead a country at war with terrorists. In recent days, McCain has repeatedly said his intimate knowledge of foreign policy make him the best equipped to answer a phone ringing in the White House late at night.
McCain was in Jordan leading a week-long Congressional delegation and has stressed that the trip was not political, despite the decision to hold a fundraiser in London later this week.
But advisers said a side-benefit from the trip would be the image of McCain standing next to world leaders and showing his expertise on issues of war and terrorism.
The U.S. has long asserted that elements of the Iranian security forces have been training and supplying weapons to Iraq's Shiite militias. Iran is an overwhelmingly Shiite country whose government has applauded the emergence of a Shiite-led government in Iraq but has denied supporting Shiite militias inside Iraq.
Al-Qaeda in Iraq is a predominantly Sunni militant group which is blamed for deadly mass killings of Shiites, along with attacks on U.S. forces. Some extremist Sunni consider Shiites to be heretics and therefore legitimate targets of attack.
The schism between Islam's Sunni and Shiite sects grew out of a dispute over the leadership of the faithful following the death of the Prophet Muhammad in 632 AD.

can you imagine the outrage if Hillary or Obama had made that kind of a mistake???

Obama and Clinton are tied, both losing to McCain, whether it's Obama or Clinton on the ticket, they both lose by the same number....

These numbers do not surprise me....

I think McCain is clueless on an awful lot of issues.....

November is a long time away and if McCain keeps making ignorant statements (thanks for posting that, Fits!) I shouldn't worry too much.

Careful.

As we've learned, merit is hardly the only criteria for the winning presidential candidate.

I don't know...it's the Dem's race to lose and we've got an aweful track record of making fumbles in the 4th quarter...

As Will Rogers said, "I belong to no organized politcal party. I'm a Democrat."

Careful.

Will it come down to the beer test, do you think? Well, I'd be afraid to have a beer with McCain. Say the wrong thing and he'll rip your head off. Yup, a man with a bad temper a foot away from the "red telephone". Just what we need! :scared:

A McCain Gaffe in Jordan

My question is, wouldn't it had been easier to just call it a "Mcgaffe"?

Just trying to help out, carry on.:surfweb:
