The Liberal Thread #2 - No Debate Please

I miss Starbucks - what was once an everyday occurence is now the rare treat. :( Can't afford $4.00 coffee everyday anymore. I brew my own coffe or *gulp* drink the free coffee provided at work and bring my own flavored creamer, I also brown bag it now - where as I use to go out to eat 3 to 4 days a week. And when I say out to eat I mean at a sit down resturant where a server earned a tip. With the prices of everything going up - we can't afford to live like we use to. Now when we go out to dinner there is always either a coupon or a gift card :scared1: I swear I am becoming my parents in the early 1990's.

We are going to Disney in April - we use to eat a sit down meal every day - now we have 2 scheduled, and they are both at lunch when the prices are cheaper............I've been lurking on the budge board :(

Well, there is good news. Dawn says things are just great with her.

I guess that puts me in with the Kool-aid drinkers, 'cause for the good of the country and the Supreme Court, I'd vote for whoever the victorious Democrat was, regardless of how bloody it got.

Pass me the Grape Flavor please.....I'm voting for whichever one wins.

I agree, but it was the DNC who made the stupid rules so in spite of annoying more groups, they should just stick with the rules they made.

Including the super delegates? What if the majority choose Clinton - because so far she's won the the states with the larger populations......

I am so hoping for a joined ticket with a more expanded role for the VP - they need to get creative - maybe the VP can take a cabinet position too - become partners - share some of the presidential power......

And who does Obama choose - a white man? Or another woman beside Hillary? Can you see the Hillary supporters voting for that? I can tell you right now - my nose will be out of joint!

Or conversely - Hillary chooses another black man - or a white man? (Can't see her choosing another woman.......) Would Obama supporters go for that?

This is going to be sooooooooo tough!!!!

Count me as another that will vote for whichever one wins...

...HOWEVER...I am a firm believer in discounting the votes in Michigan and Florida. The simple fact is that the establishment candidate - and that'd be Hillary, for those not paying attention - has a huge advantage if there is no campaigning allowed. I mean, Barack's name wasn't even on the ballot in Michigan, for crying out loud (ETA: Gee...why was Hillary's, when none of the other candidates were? And how can that be a "win"?). I would again point to the posts earlier that say that the more people are exposed to Barack, the more likely they are to vote for him. He didn't have that opportunity in either of those two states. It's not about disenfranchising anyone. It's about making the contest fair for everyone involved.

If the Democratic Party includes those votes, I'll be awfully tempted to cast a grand total of one vote on election day. It will be for Hillary. As for the DNC...well, let's just say that the poor kid that called my house the other day looking for a donation got a bit of an earfull, so I doubt they'll be calling again any time soon.

The only fair way to do it would be to hold another primary or caucus in each state, and IMHO, the DNC should pay for it in total. If you can't make it to the polls, that's just too bad. I'm sure someone that couldn't make it last time will be glad to have the opportunity.

I'm dead serious about this...if they count those votes and it pushes a trailing Hillary ahead of Barack, the DNC and DCCC have seen the last dime from me they'll get until Dean is gone, at the very least.

OMG - I almost spit up my drink when I read this!!!!

I am relatively new here (and by the way - I've almost entirely abandoned my other Disney interactive website) - but I am onto Dawn! She likes to churn things up amongst us liberals\progressives\democrats!!!

But were are well up to the challenge!

I haven't initiated an original post yet - maybe I should - including a poll - "Are you better off now than you were 8 years ago!"

Oh please do-that could be SUCH fun!!!

This is from an article a few pages back.

"People are trading down from Starbucks to Dunkin' Donuts. These may not be the best circumstances for Mr Obama's soaring rhetoric of hope in the future. His hope has to be that things do not get so bad that fear overwhelms it."

Geez, I thought I was the only one trading down. Talking to an intern yesterday who works at Starbucks, as her 'real job', at one of the prime locations in Chicago, she told me sales were way down. And, for those of you who liked them, they are discontinuing the breakfast sandwiches.

I"ve to disagree with the idea that a downturn in the economy is a bad thing for Obama. Barak Obama is a leap of faith for many people. He has a razor thin record. However, IMO, as the economy gets worse, people will not be turning to the ones who've presided over it. They will be turning to a new voice of hope and that's Obama.

Obama offers a new direction. The rest of them offer the past.

Leave it to the Democrats to shoot themselves in the foot. The door is wide open but it's starting to look like McCain can simply step over the bodies once the Democratic party implodes. Nice.

I think we're getting carried away with the doomsday scenarios. McCain is one of those politicians, like Giuliani, where the more you see them, the less you like them.

Most Democrats I know couldn't care if there was a legless yellow dog running as a Democrat. They'd still vote for the Democrat. Not so with the Republicans. The Republicans ought to be the ones worrying about the right wing-nuts in their own party before they start planning McCain's inaugeration. And I don't happen to believe Huckabee is dead in the water. He took the south on super Tuesday. Romney's righties will either go to Huckabee or they'll stay home.

The right wing-nuts in the Republican party are having a grand hissy fit because they see it all slipping away from them. They're going to use 2008 as one more chance to flex their muscles.

My brother just mentioned this to me and it scared the beejesus out of me. Now I have not heard this bandied about at all but what if the repugs have a surprise up their sleeve? What could that be oh Karnack? Well...What if McCain named Jeb Bush as his VP???:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: He's smarter, more personable and much more dangerous than his dimwit bro. Oh, I tell you I got shivers...

OMG! I'm having chest pains...:scared1:

The Irish passport will come in handy if that's the case. I'm out of here..

McCain is going to need a strong Conservative, James Dobson approved choice to run with in order to overcome the problems the base has with him. Jeb might fit that bill, the Right Wing will have good memories of him from the Terry Schiavo case.

OMG - there goes Florida.

Won't matter in the end, but even if it was the other Shrub, genetics don't necessarily mean that he'd be as bad as his dimwit brother. After all, their dad wasn't much of a president, but at least he didn't screw the country up quite as much as Dubya did.

Besides...I'm not sure there's a snowball's chance that anyone with the name "Bush" is going to be all that welcome on the campaign trail, much less the ticket itself.

Well, there's still that 30%....

OMG - there goes Florida.

I'd never count Florida as a state that the Dems could count on anyway. Outside of Broward and Palm Beach Counties, it's mostly red, red, red...

One thing I can guaran-damn-tee you about a Jeb VP run...suddenly all the Republicans who are sick and tired of seeing a Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton White House would sudden suffer a collective amnesia and welcome W's portly older brother, the Jebster, with open arms...

I can think of a few posters on this board that would wet themselves.

The two names that I think are potential running mates for Senator McCain are Mitt Romney or former Oklahoma congressman J.C. Watts.

Also don't be surprised if Senator McCain is elected President, Mayor Guiliani is nominated for either Attorney General or Director of the FBI.

Just my thoughts, nothing else.

Michael

I think those are decent possibilities, and the second paragraph should scare the bejeesus out of anyone with knowledge of Rudy Guiliani.

Forget Jeb...it ain't gonna happen.
