i think that this sunday there will be a rollercoaster special on travel chanel starting at 8. don't know if ioa will be on.

I saw it.

Rail Junkies? Huh??? I had never heard of that term until now. The other show calls us Coaster Nerds. I am not a Junkie (drug user) and I am not a Nerd (little kid with tape between my glasses).

We are called Enthuseists!!!!
Someone mention that to the producers of all these shows the next time you're filming a media day shoot.

Now, if you get on camera, then don't be SCARED, oh mommy, please help me. Look at the camera and say the ride is cool, but don't whimp out, even if it's your first time in the front seat. Say you're hoping for a 400 foot coaster to beat the record in Japan. Say it's nothing, that you want them bigger, faster, taller, and that nothing scares you. I just wanna see an enthuseist get on camera and be brave.

I wish they'd give more ride footage from start to end. They're still doing a zillion cut shots and you can't see all the elements. Producers think this looks cool, I don't. They'll show the ride for 30 seconds with a bunch of cut shots, then show an interview for 3 minutes of a scientists telling us our heart is gonna speed up, I already know that. They could show the ride from start to finish during that 3 minutes and put his voice as the sound track. I wanna see POV videos of all the rides as someone gives stats and explains the elements.

Other than that, it was good, taped it, and I'll watch it again.

Some of us saw it, too. Most of this one was comprised of old footage, some new. We got a kick out of the mention of an army of mechanics and technicians decending in to maintain the attractions, illustrated by shots of a cleaning crew entering a shop. Some things will always be left to the imagination, though, like start-to-finish detailed slo-mo front-seat point-of-view films of coaster rides complete with play-by-play analysis and stern rider review without any hint of real human emotion. Come to think of it, I have ridden these things maybe a thousand times and they still make me a little crazy.

Hey IOA Tech!
Always wondered what was in the Rubbermaid toolboxes being toted in by the Nightcrew at Parks' closing time. DW & I have a running joke of a Whopper / Budweiser smuggling ring.
Whatever it is , at least the Parks are in pristine shape again by morning! Thanks for that!!
Anyone in the TV show one of youse guys?
Jim

I don't know, either. I have no clue what is in the little box. Those fellas are far-removed from us. Actually, some of us have had our 15 minutes of fame but not this time. They typically drag out footage of the design team interviews done during and shortly after construction. Most of these folks are no longer associated with the company. One of my good friends has made the big time on Travel Channel's production (now a year old) by being asked what our T-Rex's name is. We have never really "named" her, though at times she has been labeled with names I won't mention here (we're only human). Just a little technician humor. As for the Budweiser, only after we can walk away with a lot of love for the job, some greasy filthy clothes, aching muscles and peace of mind that our tasks ensure that our own children are going to have the time of their lives at the parks and can safely enjoy the fruits of our labor. Miller time is a sacred time!!!
