finding low price flights to Orlando from either Detroit or Flint or maybe Buffalo in August 2016. What sites so I use and sign up for deals? Is it too late to snag a great price?

kayak is a good start
as is google flights

Use kayak or Google flights to search for flights, but book directly through the airline. Do not book flights through a third-party website - it can end up being a real PITA.

Also, make sure you know about any hidden fees or other potential problems before choosing and airline. Some smaller airlines can seem like a great deal, but they nickel and dime you to death. Another problem with smaller airlines can be limited flights. If a particular airline only fly's out of your airport once or twice a week, it can be a real problem if your fight gets cancelled for some reason since you won't be able to get another one until the next scheduled flight.

We prefer Southwest out of Buffalo. We've been able to find tickets for $105 to $120 each way. No additional fees, and two checked bags are included.

Look into Southwest. You have to check their website directly because they don't get listed on any of the other travel sites.

Another vote to check with sites like Kayak (or Orbitz) and find the lowest fare. Then go to that airline's site and book directly through them. You should also look at alternate dates to scope out better pricing if you are flexible with dates. Weekend flights usually have higher prices. Good luck!

If you're flexible with your dates looks like Southwest has a lot of flights in August still for around $92pp each way. No direct flights, but a pretty decent price.

Check out alligent air out of Toledo express or flint that'll fly to Sanford, You have to go to their website, their flights won't show up on anyother site.

Google Flights has good options for searching if your dates are flexible. You can put in a search window saying you'd like to search something like 7-10 night stays between Detroit and Orlando. Google is only a search engine so you have to book the flights through the airline direct once you get the info.

When the Kayak best price is from the airline, PLEASE link to the airline website. Kayak is not a travel company or third party. It's a search engine.

Is linking to the airline website a different animal than just typing in the airline's website in your address bar or whatever? I am genuinely curious and wonder if Kayak gets some benefit for directing you to the airline if you use their link. I'm fine either way but would like to give Kayak (or any other business) it's due for directing me to a better deal.

It's how Kayak gets paid. Unlike Expedia, Orbitz, etc., The site doesn't sell anything. It's solely a search engine.
