Hi, recently finished watching The L Word (horrible Final Season!). Moved onto Queer as Folk which I had never seen - US version, finished very recently, now what's next? The final Netflix DVD disc of Queer as Folk had two episodes of Noah's Arc which were very difficult to get through, really boring and terrible acting.

Does that show get any better? What other gay or lesbian themed series are out there and preferable available on Netflix? Is the UK Queer as Folk available online anywhere? Thanks, L Word was my favorite of the two.

We never got into L Word. QAF was our favorite by a long shot. A series that broke all sorts of rules and presented some pretty direct issues. It wasn't a perfect series by any means, however it was groundbreaking.

I don't know of any current drama series along those lines that centers on gay life/issues/community.

There have been some shows, short series that feature aspects of interest TO the gay community (Drag Race for one) but more as a form of entertainment instead of political. Although, anything to do with gay community and gay interests can be viewed as political depending upon your point of view.

Oh, and welcome to the GLBT board of the DIS.

I loved loved loved QAF !!!! It might have something to do that it was supposed to be in Pgh or it was just a great show all around!!! The L word, I really do not miss it!

Some of my favorite (although not all gay) series
Swingtown
Brothers and Sisters
Firefly
ex's and Ohs

I'd suggest "True Blood" on HBO.

While not specifically "gay", I'd say the vampires are definitely a metaphor for gays in our society.

Plus it's just really good.

Oh that reminds me, I left out Weeds and United States of Tara.

( Do not ask how that reminded me).

Well I sniffed around on Netflix and I decided to go with something called Bad Girls, arrives tomorrow. Takes place in a women's prison which sound very cliche :confused3 ! Looking for a dramedy, I'm hopeful because there's lots of comments complimenting the writing and story lines, plus several L Word fans have okay'd it.

Queer as Folk was a lot of fun, I'm saving the very last episode for a rainy day. I probably like The L Word more cuz I'm a girl princess:, but both were very entertaining and very fun experiences :yay: .

My new favorite gay TV show is "Beautiful People". It's a BBC production and they are showing it on LOGO as well.

For a funny show that's more over-the-top, I also enjoy "Rick and Steve, the Happiest Gay Couple".

I've watched Bad Girls a few times on LOGO, and it's pretty good. It's a British drama.

Yep, same here. We've watched it a few times, actually tried to get into it but LOGO is a lousy network and doesn't do decent programming schedules, so we gave up.

It's an ok show.

We're lesbians too, but preferred QAF over the L-Word by a long shot. I think it was the "issues" that they dealt with, and the total and complete irreverence of Brian Kinney! LOL.

Ok I do not want this to come out wrong (and I am sure it will as I can only type to explain!), but I think the reason QAF was so much better was because they were not afraid to be gay. Does that make any sense?:confused3

That makes sense to me. The characters in QAF were all out and loud, but in TLW it you wouldn't know the girls were gay half the time if it werent for sex scenes.

Could very well be. The couple of times we watched it I thought it was way too heterosexual.

You NEVER thought that about QAF. It was out, loud and proud to be GAY!

So then? Who was/is/were/are your favorite characters on QAF?

I almost never watched it, so I dont know the characters very well :rolleyes1

I always thought Hal Sparks was great as the adorable comic book geek guy though :thumbsup2

Emmett :love::love::love:

Rick and Steve is my current favorite (and not just because DHB & I are 'The Happiest Gay Couple in All the World'). I'm probably in the minority here, but I just lost interest with QAF around the 3rd/4th season. Ted as a 'sex porn king' then an addict, and then Emmett seriously going to an ex-gay support group! puh-leaze!! Emmett!! Thinking God's telling him to be straight! Emmett??!!

Plus where are the bears?! I enjoyed it for the first few seasons, but it just got tiresome to me after awhile. I think I liked Noah's Ark better. The acting wasn't great when it started out, but somehow the characters seemed a little more real to me.

Yeah, Ted as a porn king got old. I didn't much care for that character at all.

Emmett as going straight was an issue, so I could deal with it. I loved Emmett, but I really liked Brian Kinney. He was irreverent and brutal, never asking for quarter and never giving any. Impractical, and sometimes too one dimensional, but the character said some wonderful things.

Justin was a good character too. I liked them all for different reasons, with the exception of poor Ted, but even he had his moments.

We own the entire series so I'm probably more familiar with it than I need to be. LOL.

I thought their lesbian characters were superficial though, and never did really get into them too much.

Still, for all that it was the best Queer show on tv. Nothing like it since, for issues and depicting gay life. Wish there was something now. It's nice to have something you can see without being bombarded by heterosexual ******** all the time. :confused3

He did run a very close second for me! It was becasue he really embraced who he was and did not care at all what other thought of him.

Check out Dante's Cove. I haven't gotten my hands on any episodes yet but it seems to be a gay vampire soap opera. I can tell you the guys on the show are hot! :cool1:

I love Six Feet Under. There is a gay couple in it, and has gay themes in some episodes. It is about a family that runs a funeral home.

They have a few gay porn stars in it, that's why :rotfl:
