The Jonas Brothers do NOT deserve a Grammy.

That's just Top 40 drivel. Not real pop.

Rant start...

Well see thats the thing, everyone has different tastes. Music is art and art is subjective. Something you love, someone else might hate and vice versa. Does that mean they are wrong, NOT AT ALL! That just means they like different stuff, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Rant ended...

Now on to another one...

Sub genres. Oh the sub genres. What the hell happened to normal genres of music. Where is the country, rock, pop, rap, alternative ect. Now we have something like 70 different geres for just rock! Hard Core, Death Metal, Metal Core, Emo, Rock/Pop. It never ends! Do we really need all these different subgenres? Yeah it can help with classification and organization, but it also comes with a redicoulous amount of confusion. Do we need more of that in music, a particular style of entertainment that is already suffering? Well anyway, to sum it up: less subgenres, better classification, less confusion, long live rock :rockband:

End of other rant.

Pop is short for Popular music so those would be pop :). But I must say pop has gone down hill in the last decade (whatever happened to stuff like Shakespears Sister, Tori Amos, Alanis Morissette etc. abit more recent, Regina Spektor).

I can't remember who posted about Amy Winehouse winning Best newcomer last year, thats really strange as she released her first album in 2003 (Frank) and it did fairly success in the UK aswell thought she wouldn't be so well known until Back To Black (which was 2006). So I'm guessing they're basing it on whose made a name for themselves now or something...that or Grammy really don't seem to research into the people nominated for Best New comer's haha.

edit:
I was just watching a Japanese award thing from around 1998 and Malice Mizer were given an award for Best newcomer and in 1998 they'd released their third album. So I'm really guessing newcomer awards are based on popularity (as Malice Mizer gained a huge success with their third album). They formed in 1992 (6 years).

Woah woah woah. Im not a huge Johnas Brothers fan (Seriously) but to give them a Grammy even makes my blood boil. Im not saying that thier stuff isnt popular and respect those who like thier stuff, but they are doing it all for MONEY. To me that is just wrong. I know half the grammy nomonies are prolly doing it for money, but its just painfully obvious with them.

How would you know?

It's not like you have asked them before.
"None of this is for the millions of fans. It's all for the money."

Uh, I doubt they would say that. Before you assume something like that, maybe you should think about it. Because I think what you said was stupid and pointless. You know, some people get into that kind of business because they want to share something with the world. It's called a DREAM. You know, the thing you want to do with your life? Yeah.

I just have one question to ask you.

Out of all the times they were on television, or on an interview or something, how many times have they said it's all for the money?

My answer? None.

Yes, they deliberately went out and stole that. Get the pitchforks. Oh no something sounds slightly similar to another song now they dont deserve an award.
dude, it barely sounds the same.
The JB one is more uptempo IMO.
There are so many songs that sound similar.

And if theres any reason they 'dont deserve a Grammy' is because their nominated for Breakout Artist and they've been around since 2005.
But can you really say they dont deserve it ? They've been working their butts off for the past years. From CD's to Movies, the book, quite a few tours, etc. You can not like them, but you cant say they havent worked hard.

ITA.

They have worked so freaking hard for the past, what, three-four years? How the heck can you say they don't deserve it?

Can you tell me exactly who deserves an award like that, then?

The Jonas Brothers are just another over-hyped teenage girl love fest band. They have no purpose behind their music but talking about relationships. There guitar playing is terrible. Their voices are below average. All-around, they are terrible. If they didn't look good and weren't promoted by Disney they'd still be playing in their garage. I can't believe people actually like this crap.

Ugh me either.

Doing research on the Jonas Brothers it seems they've been in the "spotlight" for awhile (the first label they signed to was Columbia). And I wouldn't say they've done as much hard work as any of the band's I know:
(Amanda Palmer is a good example, she writes all her own music, had to use her own money to fund the album/tour and a tour bus, She writes blogs every single day for her fans and depending on stuff she does a webchat every few weeks, While in tour in Ireland she was ran over and that night she still performed a concert and every tour date after (with crutches), Her and the other performers go days without food because there is no funding going into this tour, and to top it all off she's going against her label because they don't like that in her latest video she showed her bellybutton - all that in one year, but she doesn't get an award for her work).

I have to agree. I can't believe this either...and yet people who really like them. . .I'm talking about the obsessed fans. They think that the JB play and sing well O_o There is so much better music out there than them. They cannot sing and play guitar what so ever. They suck. End of story.

Its all based on personal prefrence. Ok, so they dont have the best guitar work or singing, thats nothing to persecute them for. Just because they cant shred like some heavy metal stars or have the beautiful voices of a broadway star doesnt mean they arnt "good" in some people's eyes. Dont get me wrong, I hate them, I agree with you guys, thier guitar skill are lacking and thier vocals are less then stellar, but that doesnt mean people CANT like them. I dont like thier music, but I can respect those who do.

End of other rant.

The things that Brain mentioned are all off of this year's Top 40 charts, and few classify as pertaining to the actual real genre of pop; synthesizers and nice-sounding voices.

I that that that's what dr`pepper meant.

. . .I wasn't saying people can't like them. I know what your saying, though. I just hate the JB, with a passion. I have and always will.

That is exactly what it is. The Best New Artist Grammy is awarded based on when the artist first came into their own.

i can hear the resemblance but i love PATD and i know that song really really well so that's probably why...

i really don't like the jonas brothers just because i've never like pop boy band stuff anyways *ok sounding like a hypocrite but i actually do like lovebug but thats the ONLY SONG*

i second all of this.

I agree with you. I doubt that they are in it all for the money. I'm sure they don't mind the money ;) but I don't think that is why they got into the business. I don't think that is why a lot of people act or make music. I think MOST musicians want to make a living making music. That would mean make enough to survive on. I think they also want their music to mean something to people. If people respond to their music and that artist gets rich, then I guess it's even better. I think if the Jonas Brothers cared all about the money then they wouldn't be writing their own songs (I think they do anyway). I don't see someone who doesn't care about music writing songs. I just cannot see it.

Really, if you are into music and care about it, then I think if you can make a living off of your music you are doing pretty good.

Well, I guess how you would define "crap" has to do with your tastes. I don't think that the Jonas Brothers are "crap" but I don't think they are the best either. I think they are a much better alternative to the disgusting rap lyrics out there and at least it gives younger kids something to look up to.

So What if the Two songs are Similar?

they definitly did not Plagerise (sp?)

and no i'm not just saying this because i'm a huge fan of the Jonas Brothers

i'm a huge fan of both PATD and The Jonas Brothers

i don't see much similaritys between the two songs

and i think they really do Deserve a Grammy
They have worked so hard to get where they are
they've been working on Movies, a book, They've had several tours....the list goes on.
so you can't say they haven't worked for it or earned it.

That is exactly what it is. The Best New Artist Grammy is awarded based on when the artist first came into their own.
ah I never knew that but now I do thanks :).

from the very few songs I've heard from the Jonas brothers I really don't see them doing as much "hard work" as a band as people say, compared to other aritsts out there:
#Emilie Autumn - Independent label, writing two books (one of them is really big aswell, Creating a stage show, touring as much as she can, she works for little to no money (all her money goes towards the shows and the little left goes to her personal stuff), Creates 15 costumes herself for the shows, creates the props for the shows, One of her songs contains 100 tracks in it (40 music, 60 vocals (she does the classical polyphony thing)) etc. that is real hard work for one artist who is doing all this on here own - also when she was recording her 2nd album she was touring with the likes of Courtney Love...which is not an easy thing).

#Tragic Serenade - Though they haven't done much at all yet they've spent the last 5 years trying to perfect their music before they release or do anything and they are work on a no money budget with the Guitarist/Keyboard writing all music, creating the website, creating all the artwork for the music, researching, running a very little record label to release local bands etc.
