I think R had too many M&M's??? I keep forgetting the time difference - It's 9AM here now. What time is it by you?

Mean mommie that I am, I didn't give her any M&Ms yesterday. I think she forgot about them because she never asked again. We're only an hour behind you. Since we started homeschooling, out schedule has been gradually shifting. The kids stay up later and get up later. I guess we're night owls. While in public school, they had to be in bed by 8. Now, they stay up till 10. If the 2 oldest are reading, they might stay up a bit later to finish a chapter. (I'm pretty sure the 11 yr old has remained up till 1am reading, Harry Potter, of course.) I don't worry too much about it because they can sleep in. We have a lot to do tomorrow, so they will need to get up early. I have to have everyone up, fed, dressed, and out of the house by 9:20ish. They have yearly pictures then the baby has a well check at 1:20. Hopefully, we can do pics and eat lunch before the dr. appt.

Oy, I'm tired just reading that! Will you continue to home school when they reach high school level?

That's the plan. S will be in 7th next year. I'm considering dual enrollment with the local community college for 11th and 12th. We'll see how it goes when the time comes. Colleges are very accepting of homeschoolers now, so the kids shouldn't have a problem. There are even homeschool proms and graduations if the kids are interested. It has really made a world of difference in my kids. The love of learning is coming out in them. Texas has been too focused on teaching the test, the TAKS that Wickey mentioned earlier. It's a waste of time. And with the severe budget cuts coming next year to the education system, I'm glad my kids are out of it. Lots of teaching positions are being cut. Class sizes are goint to get even bigger. Specials are being lost. It's horrible. I feel bad for the teachers and the students. My mom teaches and she's counting down the days till she can retire.

Oh yes. Don't get me started. :) I would love to get my little DS out of public school for this very reason. I think your kiddos are much better off having you as a teacher and will have a better real world education. I know most of the teachers hate it as well. I don't see it getting any better anytime soon though.

I agree. The teachers want to do what is best for the kids, but they are stuck. They don't choose class size and they have to teach the test. I feel just as bad for the teachers as the students. I know we are lucky to be able to homeschool.

Did Elvin forget to put his top back on?

Elvin's top is automatic, takes less than a minute from start to finish.

Me, on the other hand, didn't have umbrella and the parking lot at work is across the street from our building. While Elvin has reserved, covered parking, the Pakester still has to hoof it.

this was my nephew's backyard last September:

Wanna talk about RAIN?
:sad2:

:scared1: Wow! Tell your nephew he can send some here. We're in a drought.

Wow, that's horrible Snap. Guess he'll have to trade in his 3 wheeler for a boat. :sad2:

His wife and kids had to spend 12 days living with my sister, he waded his way into the house most nights because he has bad asthma and is allergic to my sister's cat.

When we were there the river seemed so far from the house. When he bought they property they told him he floods MAYBE every ten years. Guess what? It's been flooding almost every spring.

I started a seperate thread, but thought you would like to know -- another earthquake has hit Japan. :sad1:

The news just said they lifted the tsunami warning.

Kimmar, :scared1: Your poor son! 20 stitches is a lot. I hope he heals quickly...

...thanks...he went back to school today, but his ear is hurting him alot...

I really don't know much about it. Do you have to have a teaching certificate to home school? (I love the idea of the prom!)

Every spring! That's horrible. How's the house and everything in it?

No. Different states have different requirements. Texas is one of the easiest states to homeschool in. It is classified as a private school, so there is no state intervention at all. You are required to teach certain subjects like spelling and math, but everything is left to you to decide. There are people who do online schools, one-day academies, co-ops, all at home, even unschooling. It is left to the parents to decide what is best for there child(ren).

He lost his gun collection and the washer and dryer (again). So far it's gone as high as the unfinished basement and garage, not into the living space.
