The Cake Bake Shop Lowers Prices After Viral Outcry

The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers at Disney’s BoardWalk lowered the prices of most items following the viral outcry over its menu online.

The Cake Bake Shop lowered its prices after outcry online over its price point while being located at Walt Disney World. Though not open to the public yet, The Cake Bake Shop can be found on Disney’s BoardWalk.

When construction walls came down in early October, the initial menu and priceswere revealed for the new restaurant and bakery — leaving many Disney fans and locals shocked at the price point. As an example, these prices include $23 for an egg sandwich, cake slices for $26 each, and a $32 burger with pommes frites. Even a slice of toast was priced at $4.

There is no set opening date for The Cake Bake Shop at this time, though the restaurant continues to host private preview events for invited guests only.

The Cake Bake Shop has two other locations, both in Indiana. However, pricing for the same items across menus for those locations indicated that items are actually cheaper than they would be at Walt Disney World. For example, the Pesto Burrata found on the menu at both the Broad Ripple Village and Carmel City Center locations is priced at $28, while the dish was $34 at Disney’s BoardWalk.

As of October 22, the bakery and restaurant menus have been changed out for new ones featuring (mostly) lower prices. The Besto Burrata is now listed at $28.99. Stay tuned for a more thorough look at the changes.

A handful of menu items actually increased in price. The Pixie Fetti Birthday Cake, Pumpkin Spice Cinnamon Roll Cake, and Pumpkin Chocolate Cake each went from $22 to $22.99.

Their prices are still ridiculous - it's freaking cake. I won't be trying it out because I can't justify to my inner miser paying $23 for a SLICE of cake.

Interesting - some of the prices came down a bit which is a good thing - but some stayed the same and may not ameliorate many. Iced teas stayed at $9, but sodas dropped to $7 from $8...still higher than the $5 at her other spots. I see too many items kept the same price but for one cent - allowing $8 to drop to $7.99 hoping that would feel like it had dropped seeing the number '7' instead of '8'. Curious if some of the food menu items dropped too, not just the cakes and desserts. Things like the burger, grilled cheese, chicken salad sandwich which were egregiously high before...have they come down too? Even a few bucks makes a difference in getting the prices more in line with typical Disneyflation over her regular stores.

If you follow the link in mrsap's post, there's a complete menu list showing the original and new prices for every item.

I did notice that post - seems quite a few menu items got the 1 cent discount to make it look better - but a few items had pretty serious drops in price - the burger, croissant, and some kids items became more reasonable - while some like the chicken salad croissant actually went UP. Still, I will likely try it at some point when it opens, and these adjustments made it a little more reasonable on a few items I might consider at least. Maybe more price adjustments to come based on continued comments and initial reviews once it opens.

Ok so I never looked into the place beyond the Disney part of it.

Are people out of their minds? This lady charges $115 for a cake. Milk, some flour, some sugar, some eggs. $115 for a Red Velvet cake.

I LOVE red velvet, but there is no way this lady has some special technique that makes it taste better than what you can get at publix for way cheaper.

When put in that context, no wonder a dang slice is 20+ dollars.

I'm closer to the latter. I'm not bitter at the addition and may like Cake Bake - I don't know until I try it. But Boardwalk used to have many fun Boardwalk-like food and drink options - lively, accessible, etc (if you've ever been to a Jersey or NY Boardwalk type place, you get the vibe). There was pizza, cheesesteaks, margaritas, sports bars, burgers, chicken strips, chili, beers, quesadillas, snack booths, etc. While neither of the two bar type restaurants were spectacular, they were both reasonably priced (for Disney) fun environments, hopping until late, with bar grub and usually available to walk in without a reservation and get some food and watch some sports. With so much of Disney turning to ADRs and stuff essentially 'sold out' months in advance, Boardwalk was a nice respite where when all else fails, we knew we could hit ESPN, get some food, check up on games, and leave full...and usually for half the price of table service spots.

When ESPN closed, there was still Big River - not as good a choice with the very limited menu, but still at least one option. Then it closed. And the cheesesteak kiosk closed. For years, all we had were Trattoria and Flying Fish - no quick serve, no sports bar, no general American food/pub grub spot. Cake Bake might be great food, but it's clearly NOT the same type of place that we have been sorely deprived of on the Boardwalk for far too long now. I think complaints about it would go down significantly if Disney were to put another sports bar/casual restaurant option in the Big River space.
Ditto to all of this! We’ve been BWV members for 25 years. For our 2 sons who have been going for decades (now 30-somethings ) , ESPN was a huge part of their Boardwalk experience. They miss it, and let’s just say the Cake Bake will be a hard pass for them.

So in addition to all the reasons above, I do think selecting a high-end eatery that is heavily geared towards women & girls is a mis-step (being a woman myself, I certainly realize the opposite could be said of ESPN, but don’t think it was equally so)

I truly hope they succeed, but I’m skeptical. Given that Cake Bake has already had to reduce their pricing due to pushback, it should be interesting.

All of this....so spot on!

I’m very curious with the people that say CB belongs at GF. Are you bitter because BW has this high end thing or are you a BWV owner that wanted something simple?
Have you ever seen a high tea place at Coney island? Or Seaside / wildwood ?

Also , the 99 cent thing on the menu screams low end - what luxury place charges 6.99 instead of 7 ?

Slightly rude and maybe doesn’t answer the question directly. Do you own GFV or BWV?

Edit: And… yes! Martha’s Vineyard, Cape Cod, New London, Kennebunkport, and a few others… and holy moly yes… they are extremely high end. We paid $12 for a draft beer.

Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs Teases New Offering Coming This Friday

A New Corn Dog Is Coming

In a new Instagram post this morning, Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs teased that a new corn dog will debut at Disney’s BoardWalk Resort this Friday.

“Florida friends, get excited about this one! A new corn dog is coming your way this Friday! Which corn dog are you hoping it will be?” they captioned the post.

The new offering will join the Pickle Dog, Mexican Street Dog, and Golden Dragon on the stand’s signature menu. You can watch the teaser below.

Previously, we heard that Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs was considering adding the giant mozzarella stick and giant jalapeno popper that are so popular at Disneyland to its menu. This, however, seems to be a new flavor of corn dog!

The theme of the boardwalk is Classic Boardwalks from 100 years ago … not luxury beach resort ( yacht and Beach club have that theme)

What I think would be an awesome add to the boardwalk is an arcade bar. Bring on the skeeball and pinball!

What would be even funnier would be a "beach" bar. Imagine the Sci-Fi Drive in. Instead of fake cars, fake beach chairs under umbrellas. An ocean landscape projected on the walls. The sun sets/rises over the water every 30 minutes.

Or heck, make it easy and go the route of Royal Sands Social Club in DC:

As someone who also worked in a bakery where staff was required to where white.....whyyyyyy 🤣 Do you know how difficult it was to keep a white uniform clean when you're also responsible for plating chocolate cake, making hot fudge sundaes, and brewing espresso? 😭 Hope they handle uniform laundry for their employees.
