The Hyena Chat thread: Everyone's welcome!

Hello, hyenas!

I'm cooking a pot roast for dinner, but was cooking it in the oven instead of the crockpot to speed things along. Unfortunately I was cooking it in a pot that we are now unsure if it is oven-safe. There was a funky hot-plastic kinda smell after an hour in the oven, so now it's on the stovetop... Who knows when the darn thing will be done. :headache:

It sure smells good, though! Potatoes, carrots, onions, with onion soup mix sprinkled on top. :thumbsup2

DH was really tired today, so worked from home. He's been on-call for work for the past two weeks (getting calls and sometimes working in the middle of the night) plus putting his usual hours in at the office, and another call came in at 3 AM this morning. :sad2:

He was going to go into the office, but he was soooo tired, and his knee is killing him, so he's limping and in a lot of pain even when sitting. And still trying to kick the bronchitis/pneumonia, too. Poor guy.

We were able to hit Starbucks together this morning (a nice treat!) and otherwise he was on his laptop and phone in his office.

That dinner sounds delicious. Glad you could go to your addiction place with hubby. I hope he feels better soon.

DS8 was always small for his age, at/under 10th percentile for much of his babyhood. He started catching up and I think was at 50% by kindergarten or first grade. I know what you mean, it's a huge relief! He was also somewhat fragile health-wise as a baby/toddler, so it seems like once we got that under control, the weight/height just blossomed. :lovestruc

I forget where he is now. I think he's heavier than he is tall (percentile-wise), but no fat on the boy at all, he's just solid muscle! At the beginning of the school year I had trouble finding pants that didn't fall off at the waist, and had him try on a pair of Slims. But those were snug, so he definitely wasn't THAT slim.

So now I have those elastic tabs inside the waistband cinched way up to about 4 or 5 notches each side. It looks a little goofy, but his pants stay up. :rotfl:

And how are you feeling? Do you still think it's allergies, or a cold? Hope you're on the mend, too. :flower3:

So what's the 'skinny' on Morgan's ankle? Can she dance?

Yeah there is no way your Ds8 is heavy! :lmao: :lmao: He looks perfect!

I'm so excited. It was such a relief let me tell you

Morgan's ankle is better. She's at dance now. Not doing back handsprings but she is doing technique class. she has her solo competition in 4 weeks. :scared1: That is NOT a lot of time to get things clean and looking good. Her ankle has not hurt her since Sunday night. I'm starting to think she 0pulled her tendon. It never swelled.

Whew! That is awesome!!! You must be so relieved, and I bet she is thrilled! And twirling her little heart out! :cloud9:

And just one correction: DS8 IS heavy, he's just not fat. I don't know where he puts it all, but good grief, when he tries to crawl into my lap these days, he's like a baby moose! I tried picking him up the other day (I think he banged his knee on something) and I thought I was gonna pass out trying to get him to the couch. :rotfl2:

How much does he weigh? Morgan weighs 65lbs and I feel I can barely pick her up for too long. Man I need to lift weights!

I think he said 68 lbs. And I don't think he's as tall as Morgan, I will have to ask him how tall he is, but I think it's right around 4' tall.

I feel like Morgan went from 50lbs to 65 in a matter of weeks! It was a fast jump thats for sure. Did your Ds8 have a growth/weight spurt like that too?

He's apparently on the short side for his age, since all his classmates are taller. Well, I should take that back; last year all his classmates were taller, except for his buddy who is REALLY short. This year he's in a class of 2nd and 3rd graders, so maybe he blends in a little better. :lmao:

They do tend to do that. In the beginning of the school year DS8 barely fit last year's clothes, they're fine in the waist but too short. Those were size 7s. So we tried on 8s, but they were very long and huge in the waist (hence why I tried the Slims.) But I found that Wranglers fit a bit smaller than Gap jeans, so the Wranglers (which were big two months ago) fit him perfectly now.

And our indicator that a growth spurt is coming is that they suddenly eat like there's no tomorrow! Do your kids do that, too? DS8 eats like he hasn't had anything all day, and DS4... well, he eats every meal, which is kinda unusual, he's more of a grazer.

You know, last year I swear at the beginning of the school year he was under 60 lbs. The only reason I remember is because one of his buddies (who is very tall, but not fat at all) said he was 68 lbs, and I didn't believe him! By the end of summer I think DS said he was 68 lbs (of course his friend is more now as well), and it was like a 10 lbs gain in one year! Is that normal???

I'm a little afraid of the teen years. My brothers at that age were voracious! Seriously, like locusts! If it wasn't nailed down, they ate it!

My brother bragged to my mom one time that he ate 4 Big Macs in one sitting. She was  and asked why he would eat so many. He said, "Well, see, I was only gonna eat 3, but then Joe bet me I couldn't eat another one in one bite, and since he was gonna have to buy it for me to eat it, I took the bet. And I won!"

Brother: :teeth:
Mom: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

I'm gonna go check on the pot roast. Here's hoping the darn thing is done! GEESH, I'm such a dork with cooking... :headache:

Anyway, if I don't see you again later tonight, I hope you're feeling better! Have a good evening!

Wow, what a sap I am!

I never watch the Biggest Loser show, but for some reason that's what DH has on right now. One team won a challenge, and their prize was a "video from home." Turns out it wasn't a videotape but a live feed! The families are so supportive of their loved one, and it of course means the world to the family member participating. Tears are streaming down my face. :lmao:

I met a new online friend today. She is on the Komen message board, is 28 years old, from New York, is a pre-school teacher and has the same type of breast cancer that I do. Only 15% of women have triple negative breast cancer and only about 1-6% have medullary carcinoma. So I had two things about mine that were both rare. In 2 years I have only met 1 other woman that had the same type.

Very rarely do I find anyone that thinks their cancer was caused by environmental causes. Yet both of the women that had the same type as me felt that their cancer was also caused by environment, just like I do. Anyway, there is not a lot of information about our particular types of cancer. So it's kind of exciting to meet someone with the same diagnosis.

Hi, Sam!

How are you? Did you have a good day? :)

I guess it was a pretty good day. Got the financial statements for one hotel finished and started accounts payable. So how was your day?

I've heard of that show, but never watched it. I take it they are separated from their families?:confused3
