The Hyena Chat thread: Everyone's welcome!

hello hyenas! Quick post but I'm on the tram and will go inside DL. :)

Where is everyone tonight? I've read tmz and I'm booooooored...

Hey, Gina! Just got rid of the kids, who are now (hopefully) in bed.

How was your day?

hi Alex...my day was long...Tomorrow is DD's birthday and I had so much to do...and much more tomorrow...and I have a cake to make...I can't believe my baby is going to be 15

Fifteen? Wow. Is she itching to get her driver's permit then? :rotfl:

she informed me that "I" needed to start saving for her car next year:lmao:

she feels that since her brothers had their cars before they could drive , she is giving me a chance to "save up" for a good one....yea, ok....I will kick in for her just like for them...

I just got finished sneaking her gifts in...I know she stayed up to try and watch me...

she thinks so...since most of her friends were handed a car she feels we should do the same...

DH did say that he didn't want her getting one that has to be worked on because she isn't able to do the work like the boys were with their first cars..I said if you do that you better be ready to open the check book because there are 2 boys going to be upset over this..and it isn't fair..yes hers will cost a little more because of rising costs..but fair is fair...I have a feeling though it is one I will not win.

See, this is something I got fairly early on, but my sister still doesn't: If YOU own a car, YOU are the one responsible for any maintenance and repairs. YOU need to arrange for the work, YOU need to pay for the work, and YOU need to make arrangements for other transportation if necessary while the work is being done.

If your DD becomes a car owner, she needs to understand that she will have to take care of it. This is so important for a non-mechanical person to realize. My sister got used to my dad taking care of her car for her, and when he couldn't due to other responsibilities, she got so irate! She wouldn't take the car in for maintenance, she wouldn't take it to a mechanic for problems. She just waited for my dad to do everything, and he just didn't have the time. And she blamed him for that. :headache:

the boys have been into motors since they could crawl...DD, a different story..I agree she will need a newer car , but I think it needs to be fair all the way around...and I agree..their car...costs

Yeah, my brothers were the same, and apparently my dad was a grease monkey in HS. :)

I never went beyond the driver's ed class requirement of identifying the parts under the hood, changing the oil, wiper fluid, and changing a tire. So I learned to take it to Jiffy Lube for maintenance, and listen when they told me to get something fixed.

Ummm... though I will admit to a little steam incident in my first year of community college. Called my dad in a panic because my car was steaming under the hood and I was scared. He asked, "Could it be out of water? When was the last time you put water in the radiator?" and I said, "Water? You're supposed to put water in it?" :headache: :lmao:

I have never had to deal with taking care of my car...I know what I need to do but DH has always kept track of it...just this morning he told me to remind the boys that I needed an oil change...so I did...they will do it Sunday...but, I do pay them for the work...I figure I would have to pay someone else so why not them...and it would get old for them to do it...DH was taking it to the dealer for it but the boys ask to do it...so why not...

I am afraid DD will "expect" them to do it for her though
