Hi! I was just wondering when and why did they remove the Hunchback of Notre Dame musical in the Disney MGM Studios?

That was not there on my last two trips this past yr to Disney's MGM. I believe they stopped the show do to the renovations on NY street. :sunny:

Summer of 2002 was the last time we saw it and I really miss it. I loved the show it brought tears to my eyes.....

My husband, kids and I were so disappointed also when they took this show away. It was one of our favorites!! We were really hoping that they would bring it back!

The first time I saw this show was with a friend from NYC who said it compared favorably to shows he had seen on Broadway:eek: I can't comment on the comparison, but I thought it was awfully good. I hated to see it go.:(

Hunchback was fabulous - by far the best show of it's type. If they can keep the Aladdin thing going at DCA, they should have been able to keep this one alive...

Sorry Pete ... different budgets!

It's Gone!!!

That was my favorite stage show at MGM. I'm going next april with my three sisters, two of which have never been and I was looking forward to taking them to see this. In fact I have raved about it during trip planning sessions.

Double Bummer:sad1: :sad1:

We miss it too. I'm so glad we finally got to see it in Nov. '01.

WE loved it...Wish Disney would bring it back...MGM needs it.

I think it was better than the B&B show that's still there. I wish that they could do something else there for a while, maybe bring back the Hunchback? Sorry to any B&B lovers.

I agree with Planogirl - Let B&B have a rest and bring back Hunchback! Hunchback was a GREAT show. It was my absolute favorite Disney show. I felt it was even better than the Lion King.

Last show was September 28, 2002.

And a bittersweet day it was. I was there for all 4 shows and the performances were wonderful. I remember a couple of the gypsies coming out of the theatre still in costume between shows to get pictures of the show's fans lined up to get back in for the next show. Then, during the last pre-show, 3/4 of the audience was reciting Matt's schtick right along with him. Of course, there were also lots of tears from cast members who had worked so hard to make the show so special as well as from guests/fans who were heartbroken to see this wonderful show take its final curtain call.

I knew it was closing so I made sure I got to see it several times when I was there in August 2002.
I think that MGM really needs these kind of shows. I have seen the stunt show in Paris, said to be virtually the same as the one coming to MGM. I have been to Disneyland Paris several times and only bothered to see the show once. Whilst the stunts are no doubt spectacular it's just not my kind of thing.

We saw it right before it closed, and I was freaking out because my camera broke during the show!

It was wonderful - a little dark, but that's the story, right? The music is absolutely beautiful. When Esmeralda sings the song in the cathedral . . . I'm crying now just thinking about it!

Quasi is my handicapped son's favorite character of all time. He has a room full.........he LOVED the show and we were very lucky that at one show, Quasi invited him backstage afterwards. He was a most gracious and enjoyable person.

We were on our first return trip after it was gone :( and told by a CM, don't know if this is the true story, that this was a "subcontracted musical with the performing troupe" and the terms of the contract had expired. He said everyone hated to see it go.

It was the best show at WDW, true talent and every show was a standout. We haven't returned to MGM since........just too sad.
