We have Nintendogs and LOVE it. The DS is pretty cool with the touch screen and my boys play each other with the wireless capability (they each have a Nintendo DS).

DS 10 years old, just got Nntendo Dogs last week. He loves it and would play it nonstop if allowed. Many of his friends have it and they talk about it at school. I thought it would be a waste. I kind of had Poochie (sp--remember that?) in mind. The graphics are really good. NO violence--thank goodness. I thinkif you are looking for a DS video game for this age group it is a good one. BUT, it may be hard to find and an item to consider getting ahead. Our area was sold out but for one store across town. The clerk at local EB Games, told me that Nintendo only sends them two games per week.
Nintendo DS seems to be a pretty good hand held system. DS got his last Christmas. Still likes it. No problems with it. Finally, they are coming out with more games.
As I posted earlier, he is talking IPOD. I think that may be the route I take. I mentioned it to DH last night. Asked him about the Nano. He said he'd rather have the regular one (I think this was a hintfor his upcoming BD). I read that the black Nano's show scratches very easily. What are IPOD skins that I read about in other posts? Any thoughts/opinions are appreciated.
BTW, I am not even going to let my kids see that SpongeBob toy if at all possible.

I hadn't heard of the Fly Pen til i read it here. Told DD about most popular toys and went through the list online. She flipped over the fly pen. I just preordered it from Amazon. Thanks ya'll for the heads up .

IPOD skins are on the same idea as the cell phone covers. They are suppossed to protect the Ipod from scratches etc.. But they also make it a cool color. I got a 3 pack for like 26? I am not sure what the colors are can't remmber but she wanted lime colored and it is in the pack I ordered.

The Disney Sketchers aren't shoes, they are like a drawing game, I guess. I haven't actually seen what they do but I have seen them on sale for around $99. Maybe someone else could give you a little bit more detail on what they do. I got my girls Video Nows and My Twinn dolls. They have wanted the My Twinn Dolls for a while now and I finally decided to splurge and buy them.

I heard a new Elmo is coming out... it's the "Tumble-Time Elmo goes to Disney World" Elmo. He has his own Disney Visa card and pays for your next trip to Disney World. You pick the hotel and he pays for it, books it, makes your PS reservations, gets you a special seat at the castle, and gets you fast passes for all of the rides. All you have to do is sit back, relax, and enjoy the fact that someone else is paying for your dream vacation. :)

Ok - I've been holding off getting my DS6 any big game systems (Xbox etc). My DH thinks he should get one (cuz he want's to play with it). Is he too young do you think or is there plenty of games he would be able to do. He does have a gameboy but that's it?? Any suggestions on game systems or games would be great. Thanks.

At his age, in my opinion, the best system for him would be the GameCube. There are tons of games rated E (which is the rating you would want for the younger kids). My son keeps asking for an XBox, but my dh and I already decided since most of the games are rated T and M, that we'll be waiting a couple more years before we get one.
My kids are really into any of the Mario series of games (and there are tons of them!), along with Kingdom of Hearts (Disney game), and the Pikman games.
With the Gamecube, you can also get this attachment that goes on the bottom of the system, then they can play their Gameboy games on the regular tv. My kids love doing this!

I saw you mentioned the Elefun game, I just wanted to let you know that we have this game and it's junk. We got one and exchanged it because it was missing pieces and the second one we got the fan doesn't blow hard enough for the little butterflies to come out. We were disappointed because it's such a cute game, we tried changing the batteries and it didn't help.

Wow, we've Elefun for two years and it has always worked great. My son's preschool had it and it worked well there, too!

ROFLOL. Yeah but does this new Elmo mix it up with Pal Mickey?? ;)

Thanks Momto2inKC. I will check into the Gamecube. I think that was is also pretty reasonably priced too isn't it. I thought it was around $100 or so cuz of all the other new and bigger systems they come out with every year. I like that he would be able to play his gameboy games that he already has too. That would double the games to play.

If you want to get him a game system, definitely go with Nintendo GameCube. Nintendo has much better games for that age group.

Just FYI, if he can wait, there are new platforms in the works, so maybe you'd do better to save the money now, and buy next year. Your DS will want to have the latest with his friends. Platforms don't come out every year, so it may be worth waiting. I have Nintendo64, PS2, and GameCube which we have collected over time. All those games and controllers add up, believe me.

Microsoft Xbox 360 console:$299.96; Xbox 360 games:$59.99; North American release date: November 4, 2005

Nintendo Revolution game console (replacement for Nintendo GameCube):The new console plays all games from the current Nintendo GameCube generation. Release date: 2006

Playstation 3: PS3 now official confirmed for release in the spring of 2006.

p.s. DS users: I just read that the Nintendo WiFi release date is November 14, 2005. There is no price yet.

Thanks for the info Jean. Have you heard what the Nintendo Revolution is all about and what will be new and different. All these game things are pretty foreign to me ( I can play pacman but that 's about it). His Birthday is in February - any idea when this new system is due out in 2006??

Tell me lots of people aren't buying I Pods for fifth fraders.--please, gulp, please!
Good thing I have a couple of months to get the Christmas spirit. :wave2:

I wish I could say it wasn't true but it is!! at least here. My eigth grader is begging for one because all of her friends have had theirs for "years".(most of Her friends are spoiled beyond recognition but that's another story). Last week I saw that Disney is coming out with a smaller version(cheaper too!) and grandma is thinking of getting it for her....13 yo says they're cool.

Great ideas!
I saw on Regis and Kelly a game you hook up to your TV. GO GO TV Video game? It looked fun. You interact with your TV by for example, juggling balls in the air. There were a few games in all.
A cute racing car track where you shake your cars and put them on the track and they go. The cars were bigger (5 inches). Maybe ages 3-8? Playskool?

Speaking of the new Playstation 3 - I was in Gamestop talking to the sales guy and he said it's going to sell for $800.00 - WOW!!! Not sure we will be buying the PS3 in my home, LOL!!!

I was also told by the sales guy in Gamestop that you can't preorder the XBOX 360 either - they already have pages of people who have pre-ordered it and most won't get it in time for Christmas - this will be a very hard item to get this year and I'm NOT even going to attempt it until after Christmas.

So glad to hear that Nintendo Gamecube games will be compatible with the new system - I just hate when the games are NOT compatible with the new systems - it's like starting over.

My DS is 6 (will be 7 in a few weeks), and he LOVES his PS2! We've never had any trouble finding games for his age group, BUT, having said that...all he's asking for this year is a GameCube!

There are one or two games that he REALLY wants that he cannot play on PS2.

The GameCube is very reasonably priced at around $100, so really that would be a great choice IMO.
