Day 2 – Manchester Airport – Orlando Airport – Royal Pacific Resort – City Walk – 1st August 2007
Sure enough I awoke with a jump at 1 am. Then I started sneezing, felt hot and couldn’t get back to sleep. By 2.30 am I had had enough and tried to read my book by the light of my phone, I didn’t want to disturb the hubbie – however, as soon as, I used the phone he asked me what time it was. The explosive sneezes may have woke him up!
We had a coffee and decided to get the car moved to the Premier Car Park. We found it quite easily. The man on the desk said we could have dropped it in yesterday and they wouldn’t have been bothered by it being a day earlier. We had rang BCP and Premier up, both had said we would be charged the day price so we thought we might as well leave it in the Radisson car park. Oh well, cost is £20 for the Radisson car park for one night.
We had left for the car park at 3.15 am and got back to the hotel at about 4 am. It took a while waiting for the shuttle but at least it was off our hands. The hubbie went back to sleep and I did this diary, the kids were still asleep.
I did feel tired and tried to sleep but couldn’t then started sneezing again. I am sure I have an allergy to something. Hubbie managed a couple of hours, then got up just as I felt dozy and ran a bath. Afterwards the oldest son’s alarm was going off at 5.40 am and took this as a hopeful sign he would get up quickly. He isn’t the fastest person in a morning. We left for breakfast at 6.30 am.
However we decided to check the cases in first which went very smoothly. Then back to the hotel for breakfast which was a buffet. The hubbie and youngest had a cooked breakfast, me and the eldest fruit, yoghurt and toast. I loved the conveyor belt like toasting machine, never seen one before and I do like my gadgets. It was class you could see the aeroplanes at the gates whilst you ate your breakfast.
We had a quick trip back to the room before checking out and heading to the airport to get through security. We had to wait a while, the line looked quite big but seemed to move fairly quickly.
We had expected the hubbie’s false teeth to set the beeper thing off because they have a metal plate and had been teasing him prior to the holiday but it didn’t happen. However, much to the eldest son’s dismay it beeped for him and he had to be frisked. Metal eyelets on his shoes. The hubbie’s face was quite a picture, he thought it was very funny.
Me and the eldest treated ourselves to some new headphones. Seinheisser CX300s. I had a pair which had recently broke. They were more expensive in the airport compared to Amazon but I wanted to reduce the engine roar as much as I could so bought a pair. I didn’t have time to order from Amazon before I went. I impressed my eldest by asking the assistant to open the packaging so we could use them on the plane. He didn’t think of that so I was glad I earned a brownie point from my 18 year old son.
I looked for our plane but it wasn’t in. I wanted to see what plane it was so I could see what entertainment system it would have. It was running 1 ½ hours late but not to worry. I rang my Mam and Dad up then we headed up to the executive lounge.
I am pleased we went in it because it is class. Lovely comfortable seats and free snacks. It was free when we booked the holiday so we thought we would see what it was like. The youngest felt a bit uneasy at first, doesn’t like anywhere ‘posh’ but then he settled in. I think it helped when hubbie worked the coffee machine and put his cup in the wrong place and it all spurted out missing the cup. We very much enjoyed the executive lounge and fancy being there next year.
Our gate was due to open at 12 pm. Our plane was Hot Lips. Unfortunately, we ended up standing up for about an hour waiting for the gate to open which was a bit pants. We ended up taking off at about 1.05 pm.
I sat next to the plane side with the eldest next to me and the youngest next to him. My hubbie was across the aisle. We were in row 34. Shortly after the take off we were offered drinks, we had orange juice and the kids lemonade, there was also a little bag of pretzels each – Worcester sauce flavour.
Then we had lunch. The kids and hubbie had curry and I had a vegetable cottage pie. It was really nice. Pasta starter, chocolate pudding, cheese and crackers and a glass of wine also. The kids had lemonade and hubbie and eldest had a coffee too.
I watched ‘Meet the Robinsons’ and ‘Ghost Rider’. I also enjoyed reading my book ‘Marley and Me’. I had another juice for a drink and later an ice cream before tea. I felt quite stuffed and my tummy felt all bloated. For tea had chicken/stuffing and ham sandwiches plus a cookie.
We approached Orlando for landing at about 4.30 pm (their time) I think.
We got off the plane quite quickly and immigration was fine till he said we had been selected for a random bag search. It took a while for our bags to come out. Then we had to wait for a secondary screening. It took all of 5 seconds. We then caught the monorail to the main terminal.
It was absolutely pouring down. There was a massive thunderstorm and as a result no bags were being transferred, in fact the airport was closed. We met our TCS rep and another rep said the best thing for us to do was to go and sort our car out which is what we did. Whilst we were doing this the kids popped back to see if the cases were coming out but ended up watching a lad talking to himself, poor soul.
After a long while the cases came, we found a car the hubbie liked – a Corolla and left for the Royal Pacific. It didn’t take long to get there though the roads were a bit dodgy with it being wet.
The hotel looked lovely. At check in I thought why not ask for everything we wanted and we got it. Though the park view and king and twin rooms connecting were to be given the next day. The kids were chuffed to have double beds each. The receptionist also took my Loews First card so I am hoping I have amassed some points, doubtful though with it being a TA booking and asked us what Welcome Gifts we would like. How good was that?
After discovering 2 lovely rooms we went off to City Walk. We jumped over there by the shuttle bus which was filled with some very noisy American young people. It felt a bit awkward because me and the youngest were sitting facing them and between them.
We went in the Nascar for food. I had a lovely chicken salad, the eldest a chilli burger and hubbie and the youngest burgers. We had a lovely server too.
We had a quick pop in the endangered species shop before walking back to the Royal Pacific. We were all starting to feel a touch ratty by now. The hubbie and youngest were straight to sleep whilst the eldest watched a bit of tv.
A bridge had collapsed in Minneapolis which was of particular concern to my son because he has friends there and is visiting them for a month on 1st September. I went off to sleep at 11.05 pm, it had been quite a long day but the it was my favourite part of the holiday – the start.
