The Hat Is Going Down. (DHS)

on a side note, the very large "Hidden Mickey" at HS is easy to see in that permit sketch. LOL :goodvibes

My first trip to Disney was the year the hat went up, so I have never been to HS without the hat. Look forward to my next trip so maybe I can figure out why people want it down so bad.

. . . and to fans of the hat, just be aware that current plans (always subject to change) are for the hat to reappear at a different place in the park. (I don't know the details, except that the place will be a part of the park that doesn't yet exist.)

We were there before the hat was put in, and to me the view down the main street with the Chinese Theater at the end was more Hollywood-like, fitting the park's overall theme much better.

I'm disappointed, I came in here expecting to see photos of a bulldozer knocking that that thing over.

If you look at google earth images you really can't see much of the hidden mickey anymore. The roof has been redone where his left ear once was and the trees have grown up and messed with the eyes, though they are still visible. I can't really find the mouth though. These are all things they could fix if they wanted to though. I just have my doubts that's at the top of their list.

The Hidden Mickey in the middle of HS is a masterwork of Imagineering. Like, it's mind-blowingly amazing!

I'll be there next week to see it one last time. I only hope security lets me in with my 40 so I can pour some out.....RIP

good question - I'd like to know this too.

And, any ideas on what they will replace it with?

It will start coming down in january and be replaced by what was there before it was put up.....nothing. At least for now.

Once Star Wars land hits I expect a giant Darth Vadar head or Death Star, but that's just a personal rumor right now.

It looks like I'll see the BAH one more time. It did kind of grow on me after a while (unlike the Epcot wand which NEVER did) so I'm not sure if I'll miss it of not.

I support the spreading of the Death Star rumor. That would be awesome. :thumbsup2

Oooo, ooo, ooo...you know what would be REALLY awesome? Recreating a Spaceship Earth type ride, but the outside looks like the Death Star and inside, instead of the history of Earth, it would take you on the history of a galaxy far, far, away. But could they fit a huge ball in the middle of DHS????

How about moving the Earful Tower to where the hat was? You'd have a view of the DHS icon when looking up Hollywood Blvd, but still see the Chinese Theater. You could attach lighting and speakers to the supports for a show beneath tower. Where the Earful Tower is now, it's located backstage and really visible only from World Drive or the (closed) back lot tour. Horrible location.
