Day 2 - Sunday, Aug. 20
We would like to be up early and in the park, but being well rested is probably more important. We take our time getting up and have a big pancake breakfast at IHOP. We don't have an IHOP in Victoria, so this is a nice treat.
Today is California Adventure day! We don't feel like waiting in lines right away, so we grab Fast Passes for Soarin' Over California and Grizzly River Run, then do a bit of souvenire shopping. The prices are surprisingly reasonable. We hold off on our purchases, however, so we won't have to carry bags around.
Soarin' is my top priority for the day, so we get in line as soon as our FP becomes valid. The wait is interesting for this one, with plenty to read about the history of flight in California. And the ride is amazing! I actually catch myself lifting my feet to avoid kicking the trees below. Three of my favorite things in the world are the ocean, cities at night, and places all decorated for Christmas. And we got to fly over all those things! So awesome.
Now for Grizzly River Run. It's a bumpy ride. The funnest part is guessing who will go down each waterfall backwards, thus getting the most wet. It's a good ride for a hot August day, but not much different than a water slide. I think Greg enjoys it more than me because he hasn't been to the All Fun Water Park twice this summer like I have.
The rides aren't packed in as tight here as they are in DL. We stroll around for a while, looking for more rides, and find ourselves in the Disney Animation courtyard just in time for Turtle Talk with Crush. Crush's voice annoys me a bit, but I'm aware of that going in since it annoyed me on Finding Nemo too. But even ignoring the surfer dude voice, the show isn't as cool as my guidebook made it sound. Oh well, it's worth watching just for the cute kids in the audience. They are all so excited to talk to Crush!
We find Muppet Vision 3-D next. The muppet show has always been a favorite of mine; seeing the two grumpy old men muppets "in the flesh" is almost as thrilling as seeing a real celebrity. Now, last time I saw anything in 3-D it involved glasses with one red and one blue lense, and the special effects were so simple you could make your own 3-D pictures with crayons as long as you had the glasses. All I can say about this show is, "Wow." How do they do that? It looks so real, I can't believe the images aren't righ tin front of my face. And of course, it meets muppet standards of hillarity.
Day 2 is not over, but I don't have time to type the rest right now, so you'll have to check back later. I'll post it as part 3.
