The Happiest Summer On Earth *My WDWCP Experience*

yay thanks for finishing your report! it was so great to read about another CP's experience. now i'm off to check out your next one!

I forgot to tell you that I loved the Harry Potter Pics! I cant wait till Universal finishes the HP attractions!

I promise I'll read through all of this. I can't see many of the pics bc I am using dial-up at my parents condo that I'm living in for the semester (they are cheap haha). I promise when I go home for xmas I'll look at all of them, I'm sure they are great!!!

Loved the TR-I don't know what I was thinking going to a college that didn't give credit for the college program. ;)

I just got back from Ghana and this is my first post. I am so happy you gave us closure. We couldn't have gone on!!!

I can't wait to read your next trip report!!!:surfweb: popcorn:: :cloud9: :wizard:

Once again, I want to say thank you to all of the people who read this thread and all of the people who commented and responded. For those of you considering the CP, I hope that I gave you some useful information and that you decide to do it because it as an amazing one-of-a-kind experience!

I just kinda want to mention something that you said, Joanna. I am REALLY glad that my TR helped you to get through your summer as a custodial CP. It really is a tough job--even more for ladies, I think--but it is a grand accomplishment when it's done. I am so glad that I was able to offer (for lack of a better word) some sort of inspiration for you.

So again, I just want to say thank you!!! This was definitely a fun experience and a great way for me to relive all of the wonderful memories that I had. I cannot wait until I am there again and also until I graduate--when hopefully I will be moving down to Disney to work and create magic for people everyday!

So true. It was hard, but it was all worth it in the end.:)

LOVE your report! I just found it. I'm only on page 10 but after 1 hour, I'm making great progress.

I have a few questions:

1. Are you allowed to accept tips from guests?
2. You mentioned you liked to talk to guests--is there a limit? I mean- if I was to talk to you for 30 minutes--are you allowed?
3. What is your discount on food/merchandise?
4. Did you wear a pin lanyard everyday?
5. Did Disney supply your pins? I mean- were you responsible for having a X number or anything?
6. How much were the cast pins at the Cast Connection? Is there a limit to buy?
7. How many "costumes" were you supplid with?

Sorry for so many questions! I'll go back to reading now :-)

I can answer some of these.

1) Only tipped-position CMs can accept tips.

2) That depends on the role of the CM. A CM working a ride, probably not. But a custodial CM, sure. As long as they are not in the middle of something that probably would not be a problem.

3) It varies. But I believe for CPs it is 20%.

4) I can't answer this for her. For most areas lanyards are required. The only CMs who don't wear one are CMs who work in an area where wearing one would be a hazard (attraction CMs, for one). For all 3 of my CPs I wore one, except when doing restrooms when I was in custodial.

5) Yes, Disney supplies the lanyards/pins.

6) They range in price. And I don't believe there was a limit on how many you could get.

7) You can take out up to 5 costumes (5 pants, 5 shirts, ect and 1 hat, 1 belt, ect) at a time. You also can return them to costuming so you don't have to clean them.

lamagique, if I intruded on your TR I apologize. I can remove this if you want.

Cool-thanks!

So they have a laundry service for your costumes? That's good!

Did you like pin trading? Got any tips?

Yeah, it was nice not having to take care of cleaning them.

And I enjoyed pin trading. I liked interacting with the guests (and the children).

Thank you for finishing your awesome TR! It was fascinating to get a peek at the experiences of a CP custodial. I love how you all threw yourselves into everything. When you're ready for fun, it will happen! (Sometimes people seem like they're waiting to be disappointed, and sure enough, they are.) It is neat to see that the friendships your formed are still going strong.

Disney will be lucky to have you as a fulltime employee! I hope you will let us know how that goes so that your fans can maybe look you up!

Loved your trip report...thanks so much for sharing your summer with us. I hope we get to share the rest of your journeys with you :)

Joanna already answered many of your Mommyofthreeboys questions (thanks, BTW!!!), but to answer these:

Cool-thanks!

(1) They do have a laundry service and it was really great! I know some other CPs just did their own laundry, but I really loved taking out the five costumes, and then just returning them all at once and exchanging them for five more. That way, I didn't really have to worry about doing a lot of extra laundry and stuff. Since I often went to and from work in my costume, I actually didn't have a lot of laundry to do because I was always wearing my costume. So it was just better to save the money and let costuming do it, not to mention that I knew they could take care of and launder the costumes much better than I could in the Vista Way washing machines. :)

(2) As for pin trading, my biggest tip would be: trade with CMs in the morning. Joanna mentioned that it's required for many positions in the park, but I know that it wasn't required for us as custodials; we were given the option. I wouldn't wear them in the restroom, but the days that I was on the street, I would typically wear it unless I was doing something like a spill run or a trash run because I didn't want the pins to get "contaminated" and it was really awkward trying to trade with guests while emptying a trash can. But when I did trade, the best trades were in the morning. I would get my pin lanyard refreshed every now and then and when that would happen, the minute I stepped out onstage, I would be trading like whoa. Usually my "good" pins or the most attractive pins to traders would be gone before the end of the day. So my main tip would be get to cast members in the morning. Also, I am not sure if a lot of people know that custodials do pin trading and they end up having some really good ones, so go seek them out!

Thanks for reading!!!!!

Thanks for your wonderful TR! It got me pumped up for my CP this spring! :cool1:

I am so excited for you! You are going to have SOOOO much fun and I have to admit, I am a little jealous! ;) Thank you so much for reading!!!

Thank you! It was so much fun and I, too, hope I get to share more Disney adventures with you all. :)

So things have slowed WAY down at work and I've been getting the "I need to go back!" urges so I've been digging through trip reports for the past couple days trying to live vicariously. I tend to go for ones that have been going on for awhile so there's more to read, so I know I'm WAAAAY late for this, but OMG reading the section with your acceptance took me back to when I got my letter! I got excited all over again!

And I did the SAME thing. I got to the "Congratulations" and stopped reading, LOL! I was jumping around, screaming and yelling, and then calling everyone I knew as soon as I stopped shaking long enough to dial the numbers. :rotfl:

Can't wait to read the rest. I did my program 7 years ago (I feel so old!) and it's STILL what I consider one of the best experiences of my life.

Well, that was a very enjoyable two hours of reading :goodvibes Although I am WAY too old to do the CP at WDW, I have two boys who may enjoy it in the future (they are Juniors in HS right now). Looking forward to your reunion report.
