The Gulf State Park DISMeet 2017 Thread (aka "The Sequel")

Michael I'm just wanting to be sure here before I buy the tickets. So you're going to the 7 pm (2d) showing on Monday 5-29-17 at the Wharf ?
My wife wants to go to the 4pm instead. This allows for an evening stroll on the beach which I like the idea of. But yes, on the 29th.

Okay Michael I will see if that's agreeable with my gang. While out on my motorcycle today I did a drive thru at the campground. The new bike paths look great. They are installing rail fences all along the paths so they will be much safer along the roads. I love the bridge path they put in across the lake. On the way out I noticed a small sign and had to turn around to read it. I will post the picture in a minute. My new phone won't post here directly.

I know there are gonna be some happy kids if the WiFi is working finally. I'm hoping the rumor about basic cable being installed happens soon also.

Thanks for doing the drive by, Joe. WiFi will be nice if it has enough band width for several hundred users. Otherwise, I had great cell service last year.

Yeah...I figure when that full house of more than a 1000 cell phones and laptops start drawing on that sucker it'll probably dwindle harshly. We'll see.

I agree with you Jim, the cell service was really good if nothing else.

Getting some other items together for the drive down to GSP. I took the truck in this week to get a vibration solved. Since I bought new tires last fall, the truck has had a vibration between 60-70mph. It feels just like a tire out of balance. I've had it balanced 3 times, including once at the Ford dealer which my tire guy paid for. After having the truck for 2 days, they found a bad tie rod end. The tire place doesn't have the equipment to work on a truck my size (alignment rack) so I will be replacing the tie rod and aligning it like we did the race cars before we head to GSP.

I also was going to make up a DisBoards sign and Mickey lamp before our Fort trip in September, but figured I'd try to get it done before coming down to Gulf Shores. Ian works at a light and sign company. They make the signs on CoroPlast (plastic corrugated waterproof board) all the time, so I'm going to see what he can do with this.

Now I just have to get sanding and painting on the milk can I bought last year.

Jim the sign I have is made out of the same stuff.

Joe,

What size is yours? I told Ian something around 15X20, but I wasn't sure if that's what others had done. I like the size of yours in the pic.

j

Wow, Joe. Thanks for the update.

It could be the beginning of the end of an era.

Wifi at Gulf?

CATV too?

I remember being excited when they finally air conditioned the comfort stations two decades ago after one of the many hurricanes that came through in the 90s. In the old days, you used to emerge from an evening shower sweatier than when you went in.

I admit having taken my satellite dish to Gulf in the past in the fall (hey it's college football, ok?) but I won't bring it this month. Between the puzzles, sunrises, sunsets, and conversation, I hope I won't have any time to watch tv.

I feel like I'm just riding along on a Carousel of Progress.

Ha ha! Getting out of the shower in a non-conditioned concrete building in Alabama in the summertime sounds like a sauna to me.

Glad the truck is getting fixed. Sign is pretty cool, I just made on out of wood and it hangs at all the campgrounds we go to. Was shipping product to your home town at work last night. Small world.

I ordered a screen to put on my Ease-up. Last year the yellow flies were having a buffet at my wife's expense. Hoping this will help.

I'm also packing a bunch of tiki torches.

Well, the Thomas contingent for GSP keeps getting larger. Donna's best friend retired early a few months ago and will be driving down to join us. June is a hoot and will fit right in with the rest of us. While Donna is pretty reserved... June? I'll let her speak for herself. :D

The tie rod end come in yesterday. I'll get it on today and see if the vibration is gone.

What were you shipping to E'ville? We aren't a big town (25,000), but the is a university and court house here.
It's getting closer.... :beach:
I was just saying, "2 more weeks!" Ian had his last day of school yesterday, but doesn't graduate until the 27th. We'll be heading out right after the ceremonies.

Jim, the sign in the picture is locked in my camper at the dealership in Louisiana. But my other one is 18X22. I think they are about the same. He printed the first one wrong and the corrugations ran wrong so I couldn't use the wire stand. I also have the small one that hangs on my Mickey Lamp. I think it's 6X6.

Thanks Joe,

Ian took the file in to work. I said make it the same size as the political yard signs around here. I'll see what I get.

That's the size I went with. Only thing political I've liked in the last few years.
