As VH1 would say: I Love the 80's!!! This will be my first stay at POP and think I would love that "theming" more than the others. But, convenience is also an issue. We have always been in the Buzz Building in Toy Story at ASMo and on the back side furthest from the main building. WE love it there--quiet and not to far but away from the main areas.

I am worried that I will decide that 80's is just too inconvienent. But from some photos I saw from a link here, it looked like it wasn't very far across the parking lot from the busses. How bad is it? I am thinking that the rooms should be like new beacause from all the posts I have read NO ONE has mentioned staying there! :rotfl: Everyone seems to be in 50's, 70's and 60's so they should be ready for a refurb by now while 80s and 90s should still look brand spanking new!

Has anyone stayed in these? Can you make any comparison to ASMo--is it as "far" from the main building as Mighty Ducks or Love Bug? or further? I would also request "parking lot" view as opposed to pool side. I prefer it quiet.

I just got back. We were in the 90's section which to me was really in the 80's section. 50's, 60's and 70's all have 3 buildings. The 80's has 2 buildings and the 90's has 1 building. I was really confused, especially b/c my room number started w/ an 8!

I was on the 3rd floor w/ a view of trees (no palms trees) which hid the parking lot. Also there was an area where all of mousekeeping stored the laundray carts. My room number was 8330 and I think this is the furthest room from everything. With that said, we were still close to everything. We just had to take short cuts. We walked across the 90's parking lot and this brought us right to the bus stops and Everything Pop. It was convenient for us but I was not traveling w/ kids so it was probably easier for us. It seemed like everyone that stayed in our section walked across the parking lot. There are sidewalks around the lot but of course that would have taken longer to get my coffee :) We had a car and we parked in the 80's lot which was very close to our room. The computer pool is close to all of the rooms in the 80's/90's section. This pool doesn't have any trees around it (no palm trees either!) and there are only a few tables w/ umbrellas so if you need some shade, you have to go to the hippity dippity pool.

lovetoscrap - if you check out the very first post in this thread, Tyler's excellent description of Pop Century, it states that no building is more than a slow five minute walk from (I forget, exactly) either "everything" or Classic Hall.

<<<<The preferred sections have been expanded to include some of the 70's and 50's! Darn it!
We wanted a room with a view of the fooseball courts and now to get that we are going to have to pay more.
Disney said I should call my AAA TA and see if they can put the request on our reservation and maybe something magical will happen. That would be great but if we end up on the backside of no where I am going to be so disappointed.
The Disney CM I talked to did not even know about the change until I told her and she looked it up.
Just when you think you got it all figured out they change something! >>

Okay this makes me sooo mad!!! i'm sure they got the idea from reading these threads and having so many of us talk about how close our rooms were that we didn't even need to purchase preferred!! ARGG!! I am really upset by this as our fave room in 70s i'm SURE has gone preferred!

oh well i'm not paying more, we can handle the walk, we just liked the location. But we didn't like it enough to pay for it. Thanks for the heads up!

Is there any kind of tip/information board at the resort? I have read that peoople laminate index cards with tips (such as which parks have extended hours for that particular day). I was wondering if this is necessary or if that sort of information would be listed somewhere in the resort?

Thanks!

I hope this makes sense - we're booked for the preferred section but I want to make a room request.

Does anyone know the room #'s for the 60's building, play dough side, pool side, but in the top of the "T" section closest to Tramp in the 50's building?

If you're looking at the property map and Classic Hall is on the top of the map, we want the left side of the top of the T closest to classic hall/Tramp.

Thanks!

There is a station on the TV that tells you. We watched it every night to see if anything had changed or was added. Last year they extended Starwars weekends at MGM.

We asked for a room in the 70's or 50's building, i hope that dosen't mean it will be a "prefered" room. We just wanted to be closer then the 90's building we were in last time. Why do they have to keep chaning things? :confused3

Reports are that it's just parts of the 50's & 70's, so you should be fine. :)

Thanks for the info :)

Ohhh...maybe they'll decide to start Starwars weekends sooner! DH is a HUGE fan and we'll miss it by one weekend...

Quick question for you about pop. We are changing are reservations for POFQ to POP to save money and plus the kids feel in love with the pictures of POP. So the question is does it pay to get perferred the perferred room or will we be fine with the standard? The kids are going to be 4 and 7.

You know there are refrigerator cases at Everything Pop with already-prepared foods like sandwiches, salads and desserts, right?

Yes, I've seen those before, but we were hoping to eat something hot. I'd settle for that, too, though. :)

Just wanted to post because I will be there in just over 14 days!!!! WOOO HOOOOO!!!!!

Personally, I don't think it's worth it.

Yes. If you look at the second page in this "Groovy New Pop Century FAQ" thread, some extremely kind person has posted a layout of a single floor in a Pop building.

If that's not a rhetorical question - because we/Guests repeatedly reserve standard rooms and then request specific buildings/sections with that designation. Disney sees an opportunity to make more money, and voila!

How many adults are allowed in a room at POP (without any extra fees)? We are thinking about having 3 adults and 1 child in 1 of our rooms, but don't want to have to pay any extra fees if possible. HELP! :teeth: We leave 2 weeks from today! Woohooo!!!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Sorry - only 2.

I wouldnt spend the extra money either for a perferred room.

What I'm wondering is- what happens if you've already booked before the change and requested 70's? We liked our room last time since we drove and it seemed like not a bad walk to the parking. Will they assume I want one of the new preferred rooms and bump up my rate or will they take it as what it is- a request? Which I do realize may or may not be honored, but it can't hurt to ask nicely :)

1 - A request is, as you know, just a request.
2 - Some rooms in the 50s, some rooms in the 60s and some rooms in the 70s are now designated "Preferred" (and no, I don't know which rooms). This therefore means that some rooms in the 50s, some rooms in the 60s and some rooms in the 70s are now designated "Standard"; and all rooms in the 80s and 90s remain "Standard"
