hello all =) I've been busy busy getting our intineraries printed and all that planning things when I thought of something. We are having dinner at Chef Mickey's at 9pm one night. What would be the fasted way to get back to Pop after dinner? TIA

If MK is still open (or within in an hour of closing), easiest way is to walk over (or take the monorail) to the MK bus stops and take the POP bus back to the resort. :) If not, we'd take a cab. Good luck and have fun!

There are no preferred rooms in the Jukebox building - another great location for viewing the fireworks is blg 2 ,Tramp, lakeside - esp from the 4th floor - these rooms are not preferred either. When you check in just ask for a room, 4th fl with a view of IllumiNations - bldg 2,Tramp, if possible.

Good luck and have a wonderful stay!

Thanks! Was this a preferred room or no? I wasn't planning on paying for the preferred location but it might be worth it if I can see the fireworks from my room.

From what I've read on this and other threads....even with one of the rooms that face the right direction to see the fireworks, because of the roofline, you really have to step outside onto the balcony/walkway in order to SEE the fireworks. Most people without views tend to walk over and stand on the walkway and enjoy the fireworks as well, and then return to their non-view room.

With that in mind, my personal opinion is that it's not worth paying for a preferred room if I'll have to go outside anyway. Might be different in a deluxe where you have a private balcony to sit on and watch, but if you have to go stand with the masses anyway, why pay for it, lol.

Just my opinion of course.....

WOOO! We'll be at Pop from 11/29 - 12/4! :woohoo:

We loved it back in 2006 and I'm sure we'll love it even more this time around!

We arrive on 11/29 too but we will be there until 12/6 for grand gathering to celebrate DS's 11th bday.

We requested our 4 rooms in the 50's area near the bowling pin pool. Maybe we will see you around there, we will have plenty of bday stuff in our windows and LGMHs.

Wow that's a great view, where was your room? I want to put in a request for when we go but I'm not sure what to put!
We were in rooms 2302 and 2303, which is building 2 (the jukebox building in the 50s section.) It's the furthest 50's building from Classic Hall (which is basically straight ahead and then towards the left in my picture I posted), but we were right next to the jukebox, so just around the corner were the ice machine, elevators, and main staircase.

We got all the requests we put in, which was the 50s section, a pool-side view room, 3rd or 4th floor, and connecting rooms. I had the travel agency note our requests on our reservation, and I also sent a fax about 4 days ahead to make sure our requests got in.

All the POP CMs were good, and our mousekeeping was excellent. A couple of times they came before we left the room, and all I had to do was pop my head out the door and they apologized and said they'd come back later. We left a request for extra towels for the pool and they left them, and everything was always clean and perfect when we got back.

The rooms we had were showing some signs of age - there were some black marks on the walls from this or that, and up on the wall above the television dresser there was a black streak from what looked like a shoe... how it got up there I have no idea, but I have images of some kid chucking his sneakers up there o_O. Other than that sort of "minor" thing though, the rooms were great. I don't really expect a perfectly pristine room - the fact of the matter is that families are staying here, and they just can't re-paint the rooms after every guest. If I was paying $400 per night I would have been disappointed with little things like that, but for the price we pay at POP, you get such a wonderful all-around resort. Great food court, three excellent pools, great views, music everywhere you go, and a very nice gift shop.

The beds were great, but a little firm for my tastes. Admittedly though, I like a really, really soft mattress. The mattresses were definitely new, as well as the box springs underneath, which were Sealy.

The food was really good. Some of the menu had changed since our last visit 4 years ago. The ruben flatbread was really good. Mom's turkey dinner was surprisingly tasty. The breakfast selection is good, too. We bought the mugs as always, and definitely got our money's worth on those things. I can't count the number of times we filled them up. We had coffee, frozen cokes, juice, and soda soda soda soda soda soda (and somehow I still lost 3 pounds)

Bus service to and from POP was generally extremely good. We rarely waited more than 10 minutes for a bus. Most of the time it would be no more than 5 minutes before another bus would pull up. The only real delays with the buses was when they had to unload/load the scooters, but believe me, I'm not blaming anyone for that. On the contrary, it must be frustrating to have to get around with a scooter and the lack of freedom that comes along with it. I don't think anyone should have to sacrifice their enjoyment of a Disney trip just because of health or disability issues. But for the most part, the bus situation was extremely good, aside from the occasional lapse/quirk in the system.

When it gets near park closing, don't count on getting a seat on a bus back to POP, as there's a good chance you'll have to stand. Especially from MK or Epcot after illuminations. It's a madhouse. The lines are HUGE, and although they can usually get most of the guests with 2 or 3 buses, it's a zoo. People are tired, babies are crying, children are cranky. I almost always ended up giving my seat up to someone who looked like they needed it more than I did, but man, standing for the trip back from MK can be miserable if your legs are tired :headache: I thought September was supposed to be better than the summer  ... I almost think it was worse! (darn you free dining!!!!)

And with regard to the buses - trips to DHS are by far the shortest and fastest. Epcot is second, and AK and MK are a tie for last. AK wouldn't be so bad, but they stop at Blizzard Beach both on the way to AK and on the way back, so that adds a lot of travel time. The only benefit AK buses have is that they're rarely full and there's no "big event" at AK that causes a mass-exodus of people from the park.

Although this isn't directly POP related, I thought I'd mention that park hopping via park-to-park buses is a really fast way to get around. They're rarely (if ever) full, and taking a bus from AK to DHS, for example, is an extremely fast trip. The park-to-park buses seem to run quite often, and are easy to get on. If you go from DHS or AK to MK (or vice versa), I believe, however, that you can only go to the TTC, then from there take a boat or the monorail to MK. I could be wrong, but that's something to keep in mind. Obviously for MK to Epcot the monorail is the only way to go.

Oh, and the turtles are still in the lake! You might have to wait to see them, but you can always see the bubbles coming up near the bottom of the generation gap bridge. There must be dozens of them down there. Every so often they'll surface for air. Some of them are really big! There used to be food dispensers where you could get some turtle food for $.25 and feed them, but they're gone. I wonder why? Anyway, there are also fish in the water, and tons of little lizards in the foliage around the bridge. It can be a fun/quick walk down by the bridge to check out the turtles, lizards, fish, and often times the birds that are around that area. There's no shade down there, though, so go when it's not scorching out.

Park-to-park buses?! wow! I had no idea they even existed! I thought you had to take a bus to a resort and then another bus to the park you wanted to hop to.

Nope, definitely not! There are buses that run between: AK <--> DHS, AK <--> Epcot, and Epcot <--> DHS. To get to the MK, however, I believe you have to take a bus to the TTC from one of those parks first, and vice versa to go from MK to one of the other parks. (ETA: Each park-to-park bus has its own stop, just check the "bus directory sign" that's located near the bus stops to find out where it is)

Downtown Disney is the place that you have to resort-hop in order to get there if you're at one of the parks, or if you want to go from one of the parks to DD.

I'll have a LGMH on my bag as well :) If I see you around, I'll definately be sure to stop and say hey!

:scared1: That frightens me! But then again, it could have happened ANYWHERE. It certainly doesn't excuse it or make it right, but I'm sure horror stories have happened at every resort that we just haven't heard about.

I definitely agree! It is scary, but like others have said, it could happen anywhere. I am just glad the situation was handled appropriately. I don't think comping one night's stay would've cut it for us though. If something like that happened to us, Disney would have to comp our whole trip in order to convince us to ever stay on property again!

Re: the post on another thread about a bad stay - even though they had had a bad experience after complaining the year before, I would have complained the minute I got in there and asked for another room. A non-working sink is not acceptable.
We had a leaking sink, and it was fixed the day I called about it.
I'm always amazed at what people DON'T complain about while there!
You have to head it off immediately when you are on a downward spiral like that! :thumbsup2

We have had two very good experiences at Pop, and one very good experience at Ft. Wilderness. I know that bad experiences aren't limited to Pop. I think that just about anything can and will be handled by WDW if you ask them to, but sometimes you have to be firm.

RE: Transportation from a late Chef Mickey's - The buses and monorail are supposed to run 2 hours after closing. If you are later than that, you need a cab. Ask at the front desk what is available.

Re: park to park buses - yup, they are there and they work great!
I haven't done AK or DHS to MK, so no report on that.

Actually, we could see the fireworks from our windows 3 different stays - it all depends on the location of your room (the rooms closest to the lake i.e. 3435 and 36). We had the option of watching from the window or stepping outside -we were never in a preferred room location.

I cannot think of any preferred rooms that you could do that - pretty sure none of the preferred rooms are lakeside now.

:flower3:

Our bus from the airport to Pop was a Mears bus
Pop to airport said Magical Express
:surfweb:

I think one we had was mears too. I don;t beleive that the cruiseline even pciks up at POP, so if you see that bus it isn;t for the cruise.

POP Question: I just got my wonderful maps from Disney yesterday in the mail. They are so awesome! But I was wondering, is POP located within walking distance of anything? On the maps it looks like it's close to DHS and WWoS. Are they really that close or is it just the map being so off scale?

Thanks!

No, there are no sidewalks for one and you have to walk a ways to get to the main road, and then it is a busy street to cross, again with no sidewalks

according to my spreadsheets none of the parks are open later than 8pm that day...

The buses are to run at least 2 hours after closing. usually later. But you can ask at the desk (Contempary) the best way to get back. Some late night eateries have buses waiting to take people back ot there resorts as well. Usually more than one resort per bus though.

Okay all you Pop veterans, I have a question for you. Probably a silly one but a question nonetheless.

When you rent a refrigerator, where do they put them in the room? We usually stay at the CBR and it's in a cabinet. Do they just sit it on the floor?

The reason I am asking is we are staying at Pop for the first time next August. I know that we could either rent a refrigerator or get in on the fridge swap. But, our local Target store had a small refrigerator (big enough for a couple of six packs of colas and a bit more, plus room in the door) for just $49.00!!!!! I immediately ran to the store and picked one up. We drive and will have plenty room to bring it along. It's about the size of the small cooler we bring along.

So, I was just wondering where Disney places the rental refrigerators. I am very concerned about room size.

Thanks in advance!

Oh yeah......should I bring along the outlet strip like I normally do? There never seem to be enough electrical outlets in our room.

Hi, all! I just got back from a great (albeit short!) stay at Pop! I got an Illuminations view room (#3435) just as I had requested...yay! From the balcony outside my room door, I was able to see Spaceship Earth, Tower of Terror, the top of the Dolphin resort, Illuminations and Wishes. Not to mention the white trailers holding the new matresses! Speaking of which, I don't think mine had been replaced yet, but it wasn't bad at all. The rest of the room was in great shape.

One of the drink stations in the food court was being refurbished, but it didn't really create any problems.

Maintenance was pressure washing the sidewalks and paths throughout the resort. A tiny bit of noise, but they were only working during normal hours and not really early in the morning or late at night.

I did get the bounceback flyer (pictured a few pages back) in my room. Too bad I couldn't take advantage of it!

The resort didn't seem too busy at all, which was nice. Overall, a great trip! :wizard:

your room sounds fantastic i am staying in Feb 2009 think i will request this room

Do so. We had that room in August and believe me when I tell you, it's fantastic. What I actually did was fax my room location request 3 days before we were due to arrive and that's the one we got. Talk about the ultimate in bonus points!!! I videoed Wishes and Illuminations from the railing right outside our room. And the room itself is convenient to everything. You'll really like it. I'm requesting that section again in August '09 when we go. Enjoy your February trip!:thumbsup2

On the floor...we put our under the table...
