I'm so excited! I've finally decided on a hotel, and it is POP. After much deliberating and changing my mind, I think POP is our best choice. Hubby is coming home in Sept from Iraq for R&R and this is our 1st Disney Trip. We want to save as much money as we can but still have all the Disney perks. I called today and they quoted me $965 for hotel, park tickets and free DDP! I'm so excited! I had a question. I am not going to book a preferred room because of the extra money. What standard areas would you consider to be the best to ask for? Thanks!
Don't forget to make ADRs at the 180 day mark to get the times and places you want, especially during free dining. Also check the budget board for codes you may get lucky!! Also another saving tip is check out the budget board for fridge and coffeepot swaps!! Good luck and enjoy your first Trip to the world!!

First off, xdanielleax, THANK YOU for all the sacrifices you and your DH make for us as he's over there!!!

Great piece of advice, englishrose!! To help you calculate the date, I find this handy dandy calculator extremely helpful!

xdanielleax, We stayed in the 70's building ( big wheel ) and it was SOOO easy to get to the buses/ food court. Last time we stayed at AS Music and didnt get a PR and it was :scared: to say the least! I didn't think the room would ever get closer! When we checked in POP in 06 the CM asked us where we wanted to stay, and this was in Nov and VERY busy. Showed us a map where he had rooms and everything!
And we all thank you and your DH for EVERYTHING ya'll have done for US!:woohoo:

I posted several pages back but I had to post again. I am so excited to be staying at POP for our Sept trip. I know how hard it was to get a room here for FD but I got it. I was up at 6:30am on the 10th and called at 6:59. I was on hold for 1 1/2hr and got what I wanted and that was POP.
:woohoo: :dance3:    :yay: :cool1:

Isn't it wonderful to have something to look forward to?!! Have a fantastic time!

I just wanted to say thank you so much for everything on this thread! I'm so close to our first trip that I can taste it, and it's so exciting! I'm about halfway packed now and have implemented a lot of tips and whatnot (i.e., I never would've thought to separate the sink area from the rest of the room, but I've packed a pressure rod and an extra sheet that we had with holes cut at each end, so we can put it on the rod; this will come in so handy!).

There is one issue that I'm torn on, though, and that's the room request. I'm still flip-floppy. When I first made our reservation, I didn't specify anything because I didn't see the need or know what to request. As we've gotten closer to the trip, dh has started telling me little things that he wants (ground floor, 80's decade, etc). Is it too late to call and request those things, provided they're available when we check in? If we fax them during the week of the 28th (we head down there that following week), would it make any difference? Or should I not bother and let things lie where they fall?

Any advice?

The ressie goes to the resort at a few days out, so you still have time. Call and ask the CM to add your requests. :)

Sometimes faxing seems to work, and other times it seems to get thrown into the trash immediately. The best way to make your requests known is to add it to your ressie.

We did the same thing! Actually, when my Hubby was in Afghanistan & Iraq officers didn't get R&R :sad1: which was very difficult, but he was glad his guys got it. When he redeployed home we planned a trip to Disney (though we waited a little while after he returned due to restraints on them leaving post, PCSing and working our way through family visits) and it was a blast! He was up for anything but camping (he said he wouldn't be ready to do that again for a while after sleeping outside in the desert for a year).

It's so much fun and I know you guys will have a great time! Thank you to your husband and thank you for the sacrifice you've made as his wife.

I'm so excited. I just called and booked our ressie! We are staying at Pop Century 9/10-9/14 with free dining! I was hoping to stay 6 days/5 nights but DH thinks it's too much. We are driving and we are also going on his R&R from Iraq, so it was up to him. We'll still have a blast! I just can't wait! Now I just have to figure out where we're going to eat so I can make my ADR's!:cool1:

I was told by a CM at Sports last year that rooms are assigned 5 days prior to your visit. I called and reconfirmed my request, which of course isn't guarenteed, and I called the day of our trip. I did not have my requested section. A CM went out of her way to get me in the section I asked for! Yahoo!:cool1:

We will be there the exact dates as you! We are so used to DVC that I hope POP is fun, I think the kids will love the crazy colors and I couldn't resist FD!

I was able to switch to POP today for free dining (started at CBR, couldn't get POP, took Music, messed with my dates, and got POP)! Yay! pixiedust: I'm looking forward to trying a new place (have only stayed at AsMo). I'm also looking forward to the ICEE machines and trying the desserts at POP! What else can I look forward to?

Anyone know if I can request 70s when I have a standard room? I thought I read only part of 70s is preferred.

Thanks!

We are there 9/19-9/27. Taking DW and DD 7 and DD 3. Never been to Pop before. Quiet is probably top priority, and then distance to bus stop is 2nd. It's probably impossible to get both. I heard 50's (building 3?) facing the lake is nice. What about building 4 or 5 (60's) or 6 (70's) facing the lake? We really don't care about distance to the pool or anything else. Please make this trip the best possible for my girls.

We will be at POP on JUne 25- July 3 i have a question concerning how Gay Friendly Disney is. We are Getting Married in Canada on June 15 this is our Honeymoon we are 21 and 19 and are worried that if we wear both groom mickey hats will it seem to be an issue? We Both Work at a local nightclub and witnessed several hate crimes and were the focus of a few. we dont Flaunt our lifestyle or even Have PDA (public display of affection) as we do not want to influence others or children. But how safe is it for us to be there? we would not go on Gay Days since we heard horror stories!

I hope I'm not being naive and pollyannna-ish, but I'm a straight, married, male, and I know of NO PLACE in the world where life style differences are APPRECIATED as much as at WDW! Go and have fun without a worry!

I did, however, read one horror story about Gay Days, written by Pete W., the DIS head honcho who went for years but gave up going last year (I think). As I recall, his problem had mostly to do with the insensitivity ("we own the park this weekend") of some of the gay participants. My son and I will be at POP during the first day of the weekend...it should be interesting:goodvibes and I'm looking forward to it.

Good luck and congratulations.

You can request 70s, only part of it is preferred.
There are probably links in the first post of this thread showing where preferred rooms are, if you want to get a feel for where you might end up with a standard room.

We were in the Lady bldg of the 50s section, on the parking lot side. It was a close as you can be to Classic Hall/Bus stops without being preferred.
It was very quiet, as opposed to the pool side.
It was also just around the corner from the laundry, which was nice.
We wanted to be near our van (we drove) and this location was perfect!

Happing planning!

Here is a question that si not really resort specific. We are staying at POP on June 18th, however our plan is not due to arrive at MCO until 9pm putting us at the resort around 11pm. Should I call the resort prior to our departure to let them know that yes we are coming, it will just be late?

Can anyone tell me the price of little cartons of milk (cow) in the Pop Century food court? We're trying to decide if we should just purchase as we need it (for children) or if we should do the fridge in our room. I've checked out the swaps but they aren't going to work for us this trip.

I'm headed over to check out the menus to see if it's available at most TS.

Thanks!
