We are planning our 1st Disney trip as family for Sept 18-24 & are so excited to be staying @ Pop (esp. since I was lucky enough to receive a 35%off PIN)!! My hubby has never been to Disney (sad, I know) and of course my 3 yr old Disney fanatic son is super excited ! Right now we are booked for a Preferred room but is it really worth it? I know they are closer to the pool but we would rather have a view of the lake possibly from Bldg 3 so we could see the fireworks @ EPCOT.
Also the bldg's have elevators? We requested 4th floor just b/c it quieter, but I am thinking I dont really want to lug a heavy stroller up & down the stairs after a long fun day @ the parks.

Yes, all buildings have elevators. We don't request a preferred room - we love bldgs 2 or 3 top floor to be able to see the fireworks also. They are a little be longer walk when you get off a bus (about 7 minutes) but they are quiet. We also prefer the bowling ball pool because it has a sitting lip around it. Enjoy!

;)

And this is a picture I've made using Google Earth to calculate distances:

The distances must be used as a reference, they are just for you to have a visual idea of the hotel. If you need other distances from building to building, just let me know, I will try to calculate them and upload them...

Wow thanks so much for your help!! Im not to concerned about walking to the buses, since we are going in Sept. I am hoping the buses will not be too crowded. My DH loves to fish & from what I under stand he can fish along the banks of Hour-Glass lake, so I really hope we get a room in Bldg 3 !

From what I understand... you need to stay away from the lakes! In fact, Pete Werner, who owns these boards, ends EVERY podcast with the warning "stay out of hte %#% lakes". Who said you can fish from the banks of the river or lake? There are alligators in hour glass lake. I've seen one. Also, there is a dangerous amoebic microbe in the lakes. One of the main reason they shut down River Country. I think the idea of fishing needs further investigation.

You can fish from the banks.

I wonder if the fish are safe to eat? Or is this just catch and release? Speaking of fish... the food court at Pop has one of the BEST grilled fish sandwiches I've ever eaten... and I've eaten it there at least 2 or 3 times per trip! :fish:

As mentioned bank Fishing is allowed at POP.

Catch and release ONLY!!!!:)

Swimming is the danger, though, not standing on the banks. Disney doesn't let the gators stay once they get to be a certain size - they have a relocation program for them - and gators aren't drawn to human prey by nature. So it isn't like you're going to be running into something out of Crocodile Hunter with man-eating crocs lurking in the shallows. The amoeba is the biggest reason for the no-swimming rule because it thrives in man-made lakes with little/no natural current, and it invades the body through mucous membranes, primarily the nose. It isn't something you'll pick up just from standing too close or walking along wet sand on the beach.

I'm not sure if fishing specifically is allowed from the banks. I know it is at POR. But there's no danger in taking a walk along the water's edge as long as you follow Pete's advice and stay out of the lake itself.

Small stuff but did I read correctly that at Pop you can get luggage brought to your room or is it just to the building? And odd one but, what about the soap and shampoo, is it really a dispenser on the wall or do you get new each day? And lastly, will mousekeeping do the cute towel animals at Pop? My daughter says this is her favorite part of Disney...go figure :)

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, if you use ME and have the tags on your luggage, it will be dleivered to your room, but it can take a few hours. There is no lotion at Pop. It's a CRAPPY shampoo/conditioner combo, and bars of soap. Bring your own shanpoo and conditioner, because Pops is just awful.
Towel animals is hit or miss. You never know. I have hear NOT to ask for them because some mousekeepers will NOT leave them if you bug them about it. It's just a nice extra. One year we got a lot. another almost everyday and 1 year there was just one when we arrived and that was it.

Fishing is allowed. Catch and release. At one time I had heard it was for only 12 and younger, but I can no longer find that info, so maybe it is all ages now. You also have to have your own equiptment.

Interesting, from the pics on the MouseSteps blog it looks like the kiddie pool is still open but when I called the resort I got a (canned) response about the Hippy Dippy "pool complex" being closed for the dates we're all aware of. Is anyone recently back to clarify?

Looks liek it is open. In that viedo it shows the fence go around the pool and it comes around the of the flowers....on the other side of that is the baby pool, so my guess is it is open, since it's not in the fenced in enclosure

Thank you. :) That's what it looked like to me, and in the stills on the blog there's one showing that the kiddie pool is still filled, not drained like the main pool. But not knowing the resort layout I wasn't sure I was picturing the area right. I actually had a Google map of the resort open side-by-side with the video trying to get my bearings. :rotfl:

ETA: I requested first floor near the kiddie pool way back when I booked, so maybe this pool rehab will work out in my favor - I don't imagine there are a ton of people asking for the rooms right next to the construction right now!

I was there last week-the kiddie pool was filled, but I saw fencing all around it. I didn't walk all around it to see if it was fully fenced, but it appeared to be fenced off.
