We are 3 weeks away and I feel like I should be going out of my mind but I'm not - what is wrong with me? I am super excited but I feel like I should be in a frenzy for packing and this and that.

I am going out of my mind enough for both of us!

Woohoo!!! 3 days to go! (And DS still has NO idea!!!) Got my DME tags from my TA last week, just went to the Disney Store to load up the gift card and have started figuring out what to wear so I can wash it all tomorrow (as necessary) and covertly pack on Wednesday while he is in school....

And the weather looks good :wizard: Earl shouldn't affect us and I would think Fiona would still be too far out (if she develops) to affect our return.

Thanks to everyone who reported back recently about the pool noodles! :thumbsup2

One more thing, sort of OT, but is Main Street still tarped up?? The Plaza was open, but the windows all sealed, when we were there in June and it really made an otherwise bright sunny place so dark...

Main Street.....tarped up? C'mon, really? No Small World, No Ariel's Grotto, now a gloomy Main Street. UGH:sad2:

I'm in the final stages of researching for our upcoming trip to WDW in January. We are contemplating staying at POP and I have a question about the microwave and hot water dispenser in the food court. Is this only to be used for paying customers or can I use the microwave to heat up a muffin or make some oatmeal that I have in my room?

Thanks!

The microwave is located in the food court. It is available for anyone's use. I am sure they would prefer you bought something from the food court but I doubt anyone would stop you. Also, water is typically free so I doubt someone will stop you from using that too. After all, you are a guest at Pop, you should be able to use the water and the microwave. :)

Great! That really expands the breakfast possibilities.

Also, I should have said that the microwave and beverage stations are located in the food court seating area. You don't even have to go into the section of the food court where the food is for purchase.

You can walk in the back door of the seating area instead of coming into the food court through the gift shop, Everything Pop. If you are heading toward Classic Hall from the Hippy Dippy Pool, enter through one of those back access doors and the microwave and toaster is located there. :)

The toaster is a continuously rotating toaster, for lack of a better description. I'm not sure what they actually call the large toasters. :confused3

Hope this helps!!

I used the toaster for Pop Tarts (very appropriate) from Walmart last time we were there and no-one said a thing. Also 2 slices of bread for $0.69 is a good deal with free Peanut Butter!!!

Does anyone have a idea of how much it will cost to get a taxi from pop and back to the nearest grocery store? Dh wants to get some adult beverages but also a few other things. I thought about Garden Grocer but I think we would be fine with him taking the trip to the store.
I know that there is a store across from DTD that you can walk to that sells beer and other sundries. I can't think of what its called? Anyone? This would be the cheapest option because you could take the bus or boat to DTD (depending on your resort) and walk on over. I have never used Garden Grocer, but my friends have. From what I understand, the nominal fee is less costly than cab fare two ways. My friend Debbie raves about Garden Grocer. We always have our van, so I drive up Apopka-Vineland Rd to Winn-Dixie.

Just had to post because I think my ticker is under the 3 month mark now! :cool1:

I picked up an over the door shoe storage and a couple of hanging cubes for extra space for our trip. I imagine by the time we get there all the rooms will be refurbished. Does anyone know the measurements of the shelves in the dressers. I was thinking of getting some storage baskets to slide in there, but want to make sure they will fit.

Anything else anyone can think of that will make our lives easier and less hectic in our cozy room at POP? (Extra hangers and pop up laundry is on my list). Can't wait. Time will fly, now that we're back to school and activities soon.

The cubbies in the refurbed dresser are about 14 inches wide. I have cubicals that are just under 12x12 and there was about 2 inches extra width, but the bottom cubby was barely taller than my cubical and the other cubbies were shorter so my cubical didn't fit. The bottom left cubby is 12 inches tall, the one above it is about 7, the two others maybe about 6. You might want to have a small tray for the shorter cubbies. I stuck things directly into the cubbies and then something got pushed way back where it was too dark to see, and then we spent lots of wasted time looking for it. A tray will allow you to pull out and see what you've stuffed in there, or use a shallow basket or box.

I put my DISboard flag that I made in the window with a spring tension rod...36" I think. It also gave us some privacy while the curtains were open for light.

Free peanut butter?

They actually sell Pop Tarts at the Pop. I know they sell them at the shop at Saratoga and Old Key West too. At the Pop, people are VERY relaxed in the food court. No one cares if you toast your own bagels or Tarts. Its very nice. In fact, I couldn't find any Lactaid milk at the food court, so I asked the manager, Kevin about it. He was incredibly helpful. They said they keep all the specialty dietary items in the back so as not to get contaminated by regular food. They bring them out upon request. He actually brought the chef out to meet me. He shook my hand and asked if there was anything he could do for me. He told me all of his non-dairy options. I said Lactaid milk would be fine. He brought out a nice big cup of it and didn't even charge me for it! He told me to just ask whatever I needed. I did. :cloud9: I love the food court at Pop!

The store across from DTD is a Hess mini-mart. You can get a 12-pack there for about the cost of 2 bottles at Everything Pop.

I think the pp was referring to the store at Crossroads, which is a little further away, but still accessible from Downtown Disney. I just can't remember the name of it right now.

Maybe, but I doubt it. Crossroads would be a heck of a long walk from DTD and it's not across the street.

ETA: That store would be Goodings.

I am the same way. We are just under a month out from going. I have to go get the mother in law in GA and back to NC the week before we leave. I have already gotten the suitcase down and put our plug in cooler inside it. We have never flown to Disney before, and I thought I would be a wreck trying to get ready. But I am very relaxed this year. I hope it stays that way! LOL!!!

Free peanut butter?

Are you asking if there's really free peanut butter? There is (or there better be still for my upcoming trip!). There's little packs of peanut butter and jelly as condiments in the drink/toasting area. We bring bags of mini bagels for breakfast and get the packs of peanut butter and jelly and eat bagels in the room. Later we gorge out on free dining lunch and dinner.

**CORRECTED** there's no free peanut butter packets. I momentarily lost my mind. There's free packets of jelly. We bring a jar of PB with us.

I am so glad I checked this today. Now we can just pack some bagels, and light breakfast things. I didn't know we could use the toaster in the Pop!!! This makes everything much easier!

I believe it is Goodings I was thinking of. I guess "heck of a long walk" is in the eye of the walker. We've been known to walk 1 1/2 miles to our local grocery store, and I used to walk 30 blocks to the Delaware line every day when I was a teen. However, the Hess is also a good option. I know they have the beer, but I don't know all the details on the other stuff they carry.

Yes, I was asking what free peanut butter you were talking about. I did not know about the little packets of peanut butter. Guess I never noticed them although I did notice the syrup and the jellies. Good to know. I'm thinking that I want to bring a little more food in November than I brought in August. I'm a calorie counter, and I am picky about things... so certain things from home are good to have. We brought alot of Fiber One bars, but alas... they got too melty.

Speaking of calories. Do you folks know about the chili cheese dogs and the matching fries? OMG... I one day was in the food court and saw dozens and dozens of people eating chili cheese dogs and fries that were drowning in melted cheese!! I'm sure they're delicious... but wow... how many points is that!! :scared1:

I count points too but not at Disney. I eat anything I want and may only gain a pound or two, if that. I walk ALOT!

I never saw the peanut butter either. Glad I know it's there! I count calories too, but when I'm on vacation, so is my diet popcorn::(probably not very wise). I do run in the mornings and we're walking all day, so that's how I justify it to myself.

Well, I do relax my rules at Disney, but I find if I go too far off track, I end up feeling sluggish and yucky. That's why I stick with my Kashi-Go Lean for breakfast, but I will split a pastry with my DH after breakfast on occasion. I need my fiber. Very important. When we were there in this August, I had alot of frozen slushie drinks and alot of gelato ad ice cream because it was so hot. I didn't indulge in any chocolate cake because of the hot temps. It wasn't as tempting as the frozen treats. However, Rose & Crown has a yummy apple crisp dish that is great if its cool in the fall. I'm looking forward to getting one Thanksgiving week.
