Did anyone hear about the "suspicious device" on one of the busses last week?
We were there last week, and the bus service was shut down for like 3 hours. We didn't know why at the time, but I just found out why...

ORLANDO, Fla., Sept. 18 (UPI) -- A suspicious object mounted to a Walt Disney World bus prompted the suspension of all bus services at the Florida theme park complex, authorities say.
Orange County Sheriff's spokesman Jim Solomons said after the nearly 300 Disney World buses were removed from service Thursday, bomb squad officials learned the device was not explosive or hazardous, the Orlando Sentinel reported Friday.
Bomb squad officials are attempting to determine how the device became attached to one of the buses and the possible motive behind the incident, Solomons said.
The hours the bomb squad spent removing and inspecting the device meant thousands of Disney World guests were stranded at the tourist locale without access to the complex's buses, the Sentinel said.

Sounds like Disney handled this well dispite the inconvienience...I'd rather be safe then sorry!

The funny thing was, it was a tire pressure guage the WDW had installed 10 years ago as an experiment, and then forgot about it. DUH!

How many drivers have driven that bus, and how many people ridden on it since then??? LOL

VERY glad they were cautious, but sheesh.

When I heard they were "using taxis to cover for the buses" I just laughed. Are there REALLY enough taxis for that???

Probably good it was mid-day and not parks opening or closing!!!

Anyway, that's the scoop on that. :thumbsup2

What would you do? Ok I have been back in forth about booking a package. We are staying at CBR room only discount. But for a extra 250.00 we can get the QSDP and 1 day base ticket and stay at POP. My only concern is there is 5 of us. Myself, DH, kids ages 17,4 and 1. Just not sure how tight it would be. We already have tickets to use. I bought them before the 4/3 deal came out in the spring. This would save us around 800-900 in food money. That is 800.00 to go to our airfare next year. We do plan on being at the resort a little bit but not a ton. We are doing a park every day and have MNSSHP for 2 nights.

Did not hear about it specifically...We were at Pop Sep 16-21 but had a car. Would not ever stay there again without one. One night I think it was the 17th we got a voicemail apologizing for the bus situation. We wondered what it could have been:confused3, but now we know.

I've already weighed in on this, but I'd definitely go with Pop. I knew two other DIS'ers who stayed at CBR while we were at Pop this trip and both said that although they liked it, it certainly wasn't worth the difference in price. Especially if you won't have a car, they found it very difficult to get around. One had a car and said they always had to drive to the food court and/or main pool, which was a hassle.

I think there really isn't an appreciable difference in space between them. CBR still has the doubles I believe, so the beds aren't any bigger either. The main advantages would be the divider curtain between the bath area and the room area - and you can solve that for a whole lot less by buying a basic tension rod and shower curtain and just tossing them afterwards. Also you won't have a fridge - but if you have the QSDP, you'll have more than enough snack credits to just get milk/juice when you need them rather than messing with buying groceries and trying to keep them cold.

In terms of location, too, Pop is very close to CBR so you're not really gaining anything in getting to/from the parks more easily. In fact, it's easier at Pop since there's just the one bus stop. If it were going to be just you and your DH, and you wanted a quieter, more romantic, location, then maybe a moderate would be a better option. But if you have young kids as well, I think they'll love Pop as much or more! Just my opinion, of course!

Thanks Marciemi for the advice. I think I'm headed to a pop vacation. The privacy curtain isn't a big deal as with a 17 year old step son. I'm use to wearing my tank top and pj bottoms all the time. Even when we stayed at POFQ with just the girls I just changed in the bathroom after my shower no big deal there. Plus my kids thought the privacy curtain was to wrap them selfs up in when it was closed.:rotfl: So they were actually more in my way.

We always have at least one breakfast at Kona while staying at POP. We leave an hour ahead of time and take the bus to EPCOT. Then we transfer to the monorail to the TTC. It's a very short walk to the Polynesian from there and it's soooooo pleasant at that time of the morning! We have never been pushed for time.
I would use this same trip for a meal at the Contemporary (swapping to the resort monorail at the TTC), but the walk from MK is just so short, it doesn't seem worth it
I have never taken a cab, but I am curious to see what the answers are for the prices. You never know when something will come up that makes you run behind and you need the time savings.

If the buses can get us over to MK area by say 7am then we will not bother with a cab,but It sounds like the buses do not even start running untill 7am.

I guess you didn't find the answer to your questions from the MANY posts on this before:confused3:confused3 I think I have seen your ticker change from at least 5 different reasons. Good Luck with that!!

We just got back from our trip at POP. We had two adults, 2 kids (9,4) and an infant. The pack and play fit in the corner between the TV and the closet wall. The double stroller fit inbetween the window's wall and the table with two chairs. It was a tight fit, but we were hardly in our room at all. I am sure you will enjoy the dining plan. Try the quick serivce in Morrocco at Epcot. The portion sizes are huge and the food is great! Have a great trip! :wizard:

Hi all!! Jusst wanted to ask a question... I get that the tension rod and shower curtain is to divide the bathroom (sink) area from the bedroom but isn't there a door that closes to the shower/toilet area??? and another dumb question can you fit the tension rod in your suitcase?? I was going to take down a shower curtain anyhow to cover the stroller just wondering if the rod fits in suitcase. Oh -one more dumb question- is it better to rent a car for the whole time we are down or just for a few days, now I am very nervous about the bus system after the other day--wonder how long the waits were. And is it easy to get around with a car-I won't take a GPS.

We are used to staying at Mod resorts too. We are leaving Tues & staying at POP. I'm 1st up & get myself ready & then everyone's stuff out, so I love the vanity curtains.

The vanity opening is 38in. at POP. I packed a tension rod & a 48X72 curtain. I decorated it of course w/ Mickey heads w/ out names.

I'll let you know if it works.

Yes, there is a door to the toilet/shower.

We've never used the curtain. Easier to pack in a suitcase would be the removable sticky hooks, like the 3M ones.
Then you only need two rings and it would be easier to take up and down if you are using it for another purpose.

That said, a shower curtain would be a pain in the parks.
Much better is an opened trash bag or a rain poncho.
Not to mention, we always seem to have ours stolen off our stroller, and those two things are easier and cheaper to replace.
So keep that in mind.

We drive down, and we NEVER use our van while down there. WDW transportation is quick and easy and we very rarely wait very long. I would not spend the money on a car if I flew, because ME and then the WDW transportation would make it unnecessary.
Besides, we're really good at getting lost down there. [Though that was our off-site honeymoon. Oy.] LOL
IF you do rent a car, do not use it to go to MK, because that would take sooooo much longer than riding the bus. You'd have to go to the Ticket and Transportation Center, then take the shuttle to the front of the lot, then take the monorail or boat. Bus drops you off at the entrance of the park.

Have a great trip, and keep asking questions...it will make your trip so much smoother! :wizard:
