The GROOVIER New Pop Century FAQ Thread Chapter 2! ~ Post #1 is a must see!

Jeany, if you want to see fireworks, you want to ask for a third or fourth floor room on the lakeside of Buildings 2, 3 or 4. Building 2 and 3 are in the '50's, and Building 4 is the '60's.

I wanted fireworks so I asked for the fourth floor of Building 4 lakeside, and we got exactly that. You can't always get what you want, but you'll never get what you want if you don't ask for it.

This will be our first time at the POP. And we're really excited about it - it looks like a fun place. We've been at SOG the last few times and while it's a beautiful hotel (with huge rooms), it's pretty quiet and reserved. From the threads on POP, I think it will be a little livelier...
But where should we request at the POP? (and I understand that it's only a request, not guaranteed) We're going mid August (Aug 10-14) We paid for a preferred room too (due to a very bad experience at CBR when we were as far as far could get from the food court - and I like to walk but that was ridiculous..) So, yes, I know that to some paying for a preferred room is not worth it but after that time we're afraid not to...!!
Anyway, there will be me, DH, DS (14) and DD (9). We just want to be in a fun, easily accessible spot. A view of the fireworks is not a big issue for us because we expect to be in the parks when they are going on!
We're driving down, too.
Thanks for any help you can provide!!

I looked at the shower the 80s/90s section. It had a dressing room with a crutain and then a shower with a curtain. There were 2 sets of these and then lockers off to the side.

You can slightly see the first curtain the the dressing area off to the left of this picture and then the shower.

Many years ago we arrived at the Movies much earlier than check in. We had been driving all night and needed a shower before going to a park (since our room wouldn't be ready for many hours).

We used the showers in the locker area. I think they even had blow dryers in there. The pressure wasn't bad at all, and it worked well. Wasn't as good as being in our room, but boy did we feel better. I can't remember if there was a shelf, but there were those bench type seats at least where we could lay stuff.

.....I have 2 questions for all of you lovely people, regarding the shower areas that are by the pools.

1.Are there lockers right next to the showers, or is there a little shelf or something to put your bag so it doesn't get wet when you use the shower? ......

I'm pretty sure there are NOT hairdryers though.

If you haven't seen it already, in Post #1 under the Property Info section, there are a couple more pictures, one of which shows you the bench *IN* the shower stall. I don't recall seeing a bench in the dressing area though. Anyone else want to weigh in on that?? It rather makes sense that there SHOULD be. :rolleyes1 There's also a picture of the lockers somewhere in that post also. (just do a search ( [Ctrl] + [F] ) for "lockers" to find it)

Hmmm....I also do not remember seeing any hairdryers when I went in one of the buildings. Maybe they didn't put those in at Pop???? (Melanie did say she was at Movies when she saw them.)

Two good questions for someone who's about to go to validate if they are at Pop or not. :tiptoe: ;)

Hi everyone :)
My DBF and I will be staying at POP in August during free dining :woohoo:
We are staying in the standard section and have requested a room with a king bed.
What are our chances of getting a king room? Do a lot of people usually request this at POP? We didn't make any other requests, so hopefully that will help.
Thanks!

I'm actually hoping for this too, haha. I know that king beds make up ~3% of the rooms. But that's all I know.

:welcome: There are a small # of King rooms at Pop. But since there are 2 in your party, and you made the request, you might get lucky. I would also suggest inquiring when you check in if you were assigned a King room. If not, ask if there is one available that you would really prefer a king. Usually if you ask nicely and friendly, they will find you one.

Make sure you start thinking about your ADR's (advance dining reservations). Most places start taking ressies 90 days in advance. Since its "free dining" season, restaurants may fill quickly.

Also - it was many many years ago - I do remember benches, but maybe they were in the showers and I put my stuff somewhere else. I know I had a bag, so I put it somewhere. Hmm. I really thought there were blowdryers in there........but again I'm not 100% sure of that. My hair doesn't do well unblown and I don't remember having that problem......unless I put it up in a poneytail. Wish I could remember more. :dance3:

Hello,

Im new to this thread and Pop. I and DH have stayed at Boardwalk twice and on this trip we are cutting the cost and trying a Value resort. I choose Pop due to the bus seem to get better reviews then at All Stars. I have to say the buses at Boardwalk can suck at times. Over an hour and half wait for typhoon lagoon. Crazy. Anyhow, my questions are:

Are there drawers to put things in?
Are there hangers in the closet area?

At the beginning of this thread people were saying the mattresses haven't changed, have they changed now? Or are they still bad? I ask because I have a really bad back. We did request a king. And I do plan on calling a week before to make sure its on our reservation and the noted it.

Is the water pressure still bad? In earlier post someone stated it was hard to shave and get hair out of the razor.

Where are the elevators in the buildings? I ask due to I would like to cut down on the walking due to my back, but Im trying to stay away from preferred rooms.

Thanks so much for your help. I have really enjoyed reading this thread. I am not a fan of suprises, so its good to know what to expect. And to know what to pack, like lotion, I though every hotel/motel offered that. Live and learn. lol

:welcome: Janell

I've stayed in all levels of resorts at WDW and found Pop wonderful last year. It exceeded my expectations, and I hope it will for you too.

Are there drawers to put things in?
Yes, there is an armoire that houses the TV. It has drawers and shelves for your things.

Are there hangers in the closet area?
Yes, there is a long closet rack in the corner of the sink part of the room. It has hangers.

Last August, Pop was in the process of replacing what appeared to be all the mattresses at the resort. We got brand new ones after our first night at the resort and found them very comfortable.

I didn't notice any problem whatsoever with water pressure there last year.

Where are the elevators in the buildings? I ask due to I would like to cut down on the walking due to my back, but Im trying to stay away from preferred rooms.
The elevators are in the middle of each building behind that building's icon. All the buildings are "T" shaped and the elevators are located in the crux of the "T".

Sorry, no lotion. You get shampoo and soap, but no lotion or bodywash.

I foundthe shower water pressure great. Even forceful. But the sink pressure was really wimpy.
I have a horrid back too. But of course not every needs the same treatments and mattresses for their bad backs. I can never sleep on any hotle mattresses. I ach and it even kills my hips. I usually bring along an airmatress to sleep on alot of times. Well Pop is the only hotel I've NEVER had a problem with. I don't knowif I'm so tired or if they really are comfy. Again each person is different too.

Don't call Pop a week before. Just put it on you reservation now. If you want to follow up, send a fax. The fax goes right to pop (so I am told) but the calls go to a center.

I also thought the sink pressure left MUCH to be desired. However I thought the beds at Pop were so much more comfortable than at WL. Maybe it's because the beds at Pop were just replaced, but every time I hit the mattress it was lights out for me. At WL I would toss and turn for a bit before I was able to fall asleep.

It takes like 2 minutes to rinse your toothbrush off and the water is hard. If you like water pressure and soft water this will take some getting used to.

thanks I will! I hope to stay in the 50's building 3 to see illumnations! Oh! One more thing Thank you for everything! JerseyJanice for the info!
