When we visited last April, The Great Movie Ride was closed for refurbishing. We will be visiting again this April.

Can anyone tell me how the new version differs from the previous ?

Our children are 3 and 5 - will the ride be appropriate for them, or will they be bored by it, or frightened by it ?

Thanks for any info.

nothing different really - they just cleaned it up a bit. The Wizard of Oz (where they are on their way to the emerald city) looked different to me.

there is a scary part - an exerpt from Alien...might frighten your children.

but honestly, i've seen small kids on this ride and never saw them loose their cool.

We went on the ride last September and our kids (DD4, DS3) enjoyed it. As stinkerbelle said, the scene from Alien is quite scary, so we put our hands over our kids' eyes during that part. But there is enough stuff to keep their attention. I didn't notice anything remarkably different from previous times I rode.

It can be loud, guns firing, building blows up - all safely but if your kids are sound sensitive, could be a problem. Only other scary part is the Wizard of Oz witch comes out and gives her "I'll get you, my pretty" speech.

Thank you for the responses.

I am pretty sure they can handle the Wizard of Oz scene. We will try to cover there eyes for the Alien scene.

Thanks again.

My 8 yr old was always afraid to ride it in past years and finally went on it last week. He loved it and can't believe he missed out on it in past years.

:smooth: The alien scene was not that scary all it will do is move back and forth...but during the gun fight scene I covered my head:hyper: (DisneyBee's 12 year old son)

We went on this when my son was 3. I was unaware of the Alien scene. The alien drops down out of the ceiling and scared him beyond belief. He still talks about how mean we were not to warn him. I think he would have been fine if we had warned him ahead of time.

I was scared of the alien part at 20 and I still am at 24!! :o) It dropped some goo/slime on me when we rode under it! :o( I love the rest of the ride, but have only ridden it once...I'm just a chicken! I think if you tell your kids what to expect and offer to cover their eyes or offer sunglasses for when they are scared, let them have control of the situation, they will enjoy it.

My DD's 4 and 6 had no problem with the ride. The aliean is scary but they were OK and they won't go on Haunted Mansion.

At 41, I still get worked up about the Alien scene and the "gun fight" - yet I watched a smiling baby on her dad's lap not be fazed by any of it. All depends upon how sensitive the kids are.

I hate to be scared (I don't do haunted houses at Holloween) or surprised....I pick up my feet during "Honey I shrunk the Audience" and don't lean back against the bench in "It's Tough to Be a Bug"! And yet, I'll do ToT and RnR all day long if I could!

I'm doing the single digit dance - YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I brought my 4yo on it recently and he liked it and wasn't scared by any of it. I was afraid that he would be bored and there is not an "out" on that ride. Go later in the day when you'd like a break. We had to wait in line for quite a while (and this was on a very slow day), so pull a fastpass if you are able.

The experience on this ride really varies depending on the CMs serving as the "tour guide" and "bad guy". It's much more enjoyable/intense when the CMs are good actors!

Ok, I don't know how to put this, but I'll try... I'm wondering if this is a ride that adults enjoy and so they take their kids on it. Or, if it is a ride that is geared to kids. Did that make any sense at all? I don't know much about the ride. I was trying to decide whether to take my boys on it or not. They will be turning 8 while we are there. Last time we were there, they were 4.5. They loved HM. They hated Dinosaur. The Alien thing sounds similar to what bothered them at Dinosaur. They are so much older now, I just don't know what will scare them. They still remember Dinosaur and don't want to go on it this time. They were very brave about everything before I took them on Dinosaur. Afterward, they refused to go on a lot of things that were not scary at all. I don't want to repeat my mistake! So is this a "don't miss it" for kids, adults or both?

I think that it's a ride (if you call it a ride) that can be missed. My 4yo liked it and was somewhat scared in Dinosaur. He said he liked Dinosaur, but didn't want to go on it again. The Movie Ride is more geared for adults, but the kids seem to like it ok. It's not "in your face" kind of scary like Dinosaur.

I know what you mean about kides getting scared early in a trip and then not wanting to do other things that are really not scary. My son was 3yo last year at Universal. We went on Spiderman in IoA and he liked it until he though he was falling. He then got scared and didn't want to do a lot of rides, or was scared on other non-scary rides, such as ET and Jimmy Neutron. We went back recently and he now thinks all those rides are fun and not scary. Well, except for any 3-D type shows. Those still scare him.

I know what you mean. On our first visit to WDW we went to HISTA on our first day. Our kids were traumatized the entire trip by anything remotely 3D after that.
