I know it was burning hot this year. I was down in San Diego the week or so before it, and flew home the day of the 10K. It was SO hot. But everyone said it was unusually hot, from my brother in SD to my old friend living in LA.
Yeah it was hot here but quite a bit worse there. My co worker said it wasn't too bad...if you finished before the sun came up
It's always good to know I'm not the only enabler around.
But what those in the know say is that the admission is tied to your account. The bands are tied to your account. The bands access what's in your account. The APs, or other admission media, aren't ON your band. They are accessed by your band, and unless you deactivate a band on your account, your admission media can be accessed by any of the bands on your account.
That is what I've heard too. And apparently some folks are getting in trouble as the band "shows" an AP, lets them in, book FP etc but they don't have resort ressies to go with it. They have had a resort ressie in the past so they have a band and it works but technically aren't allowed to use it if they aren't still at that resort. They are getting in big fat trouble as a result for trying to do that. As in kicked out of the park trouble!
If I'm remembering correctly, SkirtSports has an active Facebook page; it might be quick to ask there! (but I'm on a FB hiatus so things might have changed)
I found a blog
here that shows a picture of the inside of the blue skirt with a bright pink wedge thing. If my Happy Girl skirt is anything to go by, that's the liner in question, and it goes right there at the bits&pieces area, LOL.
Did you see the links to Fabric Info? It's on, at the very least, the Happy Girl skirt (I have two of those). For that skirt, this is the info:
Thanks! I'm actually looking at the Marathon Chick, it's the one with a brief (they call it a spankie) not shorts (hate the shorts in a skort/skirt)
With this brief
I don't know if that is enough information for you, but...if you hadn't seen the little "fabric info" link, it's in the list that looks like this, under quantity:
Yes, I did see that which is where it gets confusing
AeroLight Jersey
- 87% Polyester (240 gm/yd)
- 13% Spandex (166 gm/m2)
Features
- Lightweight performance
- Ultra moisture-management
- Fast-drying
Under Skirt Liner
Features
- First layer of protection and breathability
- Soft to the touch
- Disperses moisture effectively
So the questions is what is the "under skirt liner"? Is it the brief shown in the picture or is there an actual liner on the back side or separate from the skirt and then what is the brief made of? I suppose I could pop into REI and see if they have this one to check. The skirt fabric itself it not good for me, way too high in the spandex but if the spankie is what is made of the polyester, I could do it I think and for that price, would actually like to try. It's the first one I've seen that even looks feasible! I wear more of a traditional running short as it works so much better with my skin issue..and is more comfy to me. My shorts have a similar composition to the outer fabric of the skirt, but the liner is 100% ok. I've found that between the panty and liner being ok, the bulk of the shorts fabric (even though not really ok) because it is not tight against the skin it ends up being fine, and then the waist band (also not ok fabric) seemingly having the "bad" stuff either wrapped, or distributed enough that it's been ok so far. It did take a bit to find shorts that were just right.
For winter though, honestly, I've had to just wear stuff that is "bad". Kind of hard to find tights that are low in spandex! however the cold does help keep the sweat down, thus the irritation and so far... no real issues. The part I have to be uber careful of is...the bits and parts as you say. I made the mistake of wearing spanx without a layer under it to protect me not that long ago and wow..not fun.
I can't remember if it was you or Ann who linked to skirtsports but THANK YOU. I like my HappyGirls, but what drew me to them at first is now cumbersome. I have gotten smaller and my legs look better, so I don't find the NEED to have the longer skirt. And look at those prices, WOW. I liked running in my shorts for TOT but the fabric looked and felt awful as I got sweatier, and there's the SkirtSports shorts, right there, for relatively almost nothing.
Ann gets all the credit! And they may well get a sale from me, I did post on their FB page, thanks for the idea!
Silly question (to anyone who knows the rawthreads site)...is the "castle to castle" shirt appropriate for just a random Coast to Coast? Or is it for specific ones? I don't want to wear something that isn't "right".
I really think it's generic and that you'd be fine on that one. I'm not looking at it since I don't have a Coast to Coast planned at present. I hope to someday! I have always assumed it refers to any combo. I know what you mean, like Ann I've looked at that Dumbo skirt (but it has shorts, even though their fabric is ok for me) and I love all the "fly" tops but I'm not running that so...no Dumbo. They are so cute! I'd take one if it didn't have the miles listed...I just love the design itself but wouldn't want to imply I did or am doing something I am not. I figured the race you to the castle was generic and if it's not (perhaps it's really meant for PHM?) then on well. I'm waiting for a Belle hoodie.
It does. Looking over my plans, I can see where it still could be useful in a couple of spots. So who knows... again... if a good enough deal were to come through I might jump on it.
Keep checking Costco, can't hurt!
I haven't experienced night runs like you have. I have had some serious foggy days where I know that cars stop and I can tell they are trying to figure out what they are seeing. (when i am out on farm roads where traffic and people are nearly nonexistent) Steve on the other hand just last night came home and said just about the EXACT thing you did. The high beams...nearly blinding him... making it so he couldn't see where it was that he was running. He ended up going to Roadrunner to talk to them. I guess the sales people explained that a vest is important and not just a blinkie... I guess that while a blinkie makes you seen enough... it confuses drivers and often on go the highbeams.
Well I've only done a couple and honestly I will NOT do it on the street again I think. Jeff will and he does have a vest. We were fully on the trail last night so there were lots of cyclists and most were fine but that one...UGH. I probably should get a vest, I have these reflective bands you snap around your wrist or legs (reminds me of wonder woman's bracelets lol) and I had all 4 on, plus my running tights have a reflective design on one side, reflective edges on the headband, day glo orange top (with a white vest but I would have been fine without the vest, just wasn't sure what was more visible, the orange or the white...I actually was a little too warm with it) and then one blinkie that I clipped to the back of my headband.
I'd like one more to wear up front. Not enough that it actually messes with my night vision but enough so I know folks coming at me (versus behind) can see. Running back there were a fair amount of cars on the access road next to the trail so that was a bit distracting. I'm going to have to suck it up for Friday runs, no real way around it, and maybe even twice a week. I did at least get to see what are the darker versus more well lit parts of the trail and can cobble together a double loop that keeps me in the parts I'm more comfortable vision wise in. My night vision sucks as it is so it will definitely be an adjustment. I suppose the good news is...I wasn't cold. I keep thinking I might need a warmer layer and I'm not sure I do. Maybe new gloves though and another headband option. The smartwool one would be 100% ok but it looked SO wide and my head is small...folding it over just looked ridiculously bulky. Beanies make my head itch though. LOL! What are you wearing for warm gear?
I am being a bit cheap though and really should get a vest. BLEH.
I really feel bad for you. I just can't imagine how hard it must be to find athletic wear with fabrics that won't cause you problems.
It really bites. I honestly can't find things that don't, it's more a matter of the lesser of evils. which is true in my daily clothing as well. Workout wear is just worse as sweat seems to "activate" the issue or ramp it up more. Plus it's more snug and thus the direct contact increases. I have a pile of tops I LOVE that I can't quite bear to get rid of (gym tops, not ideal for running) but I really need to let go. It's the underwear and bras that kill me! I can't stand spending money on them and it really bites when the stuff that works best is...
$17 a pair!
But boy to I have to be careful there....I pay royally when the fabric is off. At least swimsuits...have a liner.
I am always unsure of the sizing. I am not particularily large...but I have a gut that causes me trouble since measuring... my hips are smaller than my waist. Yeah.. I know..SO attractive.

So... when I look at sizes almost always I feel like I am gambling. Depending on where there is a more forgiving amount of fabric, I can range in size quite a bit.
I know what you mean, I have challenges in other ways. I am uber short waisted, so things that are low rise on others, aren't on me. Finding workout bottoms that aren't actually high rise, and thus uncomfortable, isn't as easy as you'd think. Add in the fact that I'm more straight up and down, if I get the right waist size it can be too big in the hips as well, or tight in the waist if the hips are good. Tops...I need a small for shoulders and waist but for chest...sometimes a medium. I think everyone has a sizing challenge of some sort!
I got a "minnie" sparkle skirt. I opted for just the skirt and not the kind that has the built in shorts.
CUTE! I didn't realize that one came as an option without the shorts built in.
I've never had a pair of compression shorts that didn't ride. I am sure they exist but...ugh, it just seems so much warmer to run in! I can see where they could be useful though for chafing etc but it looks so miserably hot.
Oh my! I think I would have too. We lost the one in Puyallup and I for whatever reason never get up to the one in Issaquah. (I am not even sure if that one is still there) I use to make a trip whenever Karin would get to that spot..that inevitable spot in her report where she shows the pictures of those yummy little donuts. Now I just drool on my computer screen.
We hit the one in Issaquah when we go to the cabin. There is not not all that far from us but we rarely go, it's just not in our traffic pattern.
The family was happy, I actually brought 1.5 boxes home (smaller boxes, 6 per) and yes...I ate one or maybe 2 more over the next couple of days as well. They are like crack!
Yeah.. I remember that was odd. That last 40 minutes flew by!!!
That's a good thing

we were having fun chatting!
Well, I hope that it was just unusually hot. I may be succumbing to some peer pressure
or twisting of little fingers...
So you like the happy girls? I love running skorts/skirts. That one has nice pockets in the shorts and a useable back pocket? I hate how most offer a pocket in back, but I am just not so coordinated when I run to reach around and use it. I suppose if I were to only use it for things that I need to access after a run then they would be good... but this looks like I could use DURING a run. It does look like it runs a tad longer than most though... but wow! that prize is good.
Too funny! I am the exact opposite, I love the back pockets! I have a hard time running without one. That said, I honestly don't pull something out at all while running...it just feels like a far more secure place for the phone. When I've tried other options, the phone drags the clothing item down and drives me nuts. I can get my phone in and out if I have to, I just don't like to (especially if my hands are sweaty lol!). But...I've really not tested needing fuel and water yet and won't for quite some time. I do have the hand held bottle which has a small pocket and am thinking that will be enough, but we will see. Honestly I'd still prefer not to carry anything, in an actual race they have stuff for you. I know they say runs over an hour, you should have fuel but I've read others that say over 2...I'd love to skip that personally but we will see.
Sorry to hear both you and Cynthia have been sick and that it's interfering with your runs and races. Don't be to hard on yourself. I have learned over the years that there is a VERY thin line between training appropriately and overtraining. Each and every time I cross that line I get sick.
I can't speak for Ann but I definitely just caught the office cold and didn't over-train...took the week off lol! I don't have anything to prove and am far more interested in getting better, not worse. To a point though, at some point I have to get back out there. I don't consider anything I am doing at the moment as actual training though, just more normal workout routine. It's lingering but definitely a bazillion times better. It was kind of funny that we both had the icky cold and both had 5K's the next day though!
