  Do you like bananas?

How ripe is ripe for you? What's your favorite way to eat a banana? Will you still eat a banana if it starts to get brown spots on the outside? How about on the inside?

I like bananas, but I am VERY picky about them. They have to be green or just off of green and very firm - see the attached picture. That is just about right, anything riper than that is TOO ripe and only fit for banana bread. I don't like bananas "in" things where I might happen upon the banana pieces a few days later when they might be slimy and sneak up on me - banana cream pie, banana puddings, etc... its a texture thing. I don't like bananas in cereal, or with ice cream either. NO brown spots, if I find any I have to cut that piece of the banana off.

I do love banana bread, muffins, smoothies, etc... I think its because the bananas are all mushed up and mixed in, no ninja chunks waiting to ambush me.

Surprisingly my favorite dessert in all of The World is the Banana Bread Pudding at Ohana. I don't know why I make an exception for that one, but I do. :confused3 It may be the caramel sauce. :upsidedow

Any other banana fans?

You - over there - get your mind out of the gutter.

I like mine about as green/firm as you do but I am not as finicky about spots as you (and my daughter:rotfl:) are. One of our favourite summer time (I don't know why but we only eat this in summer) lunches is a banana hotdog. We spread creamy peanut butter ("mayo") in a hot dog bun. We put a banana ("hotdog") in and top with crushed pineapple ("relish") and a drizzle of chocolate sauce ("ketchup").

In winter we like grilled peanut butter and banana sandwiches. These are best when made on Pepperidge Farm Cinnamon Swirl bread:love:

I have never had this, so forgive me if this is a silly question, but how do you prepare the banana for this? Is it sliced, like you would for cereal? Smashed up, so it is the same consistancy as the peanut butter?

Its an intriguing thought... just not sure about a hot banana.... although, I suppose, the bananas in my beloved Ohana's bread pudding sauce are hot... hmmmm... :scratchin

sliced (like for cereal) with peanut butter on both pieces of bread. Grill it in butter like a grilled cheese. The bread gets toasty and the peanut butter warm and gooey. The bananas don't really get very warm and do not get mushy.

I have read that this (on regular bread) was Elvis:rotfl:'s favourite

I like mine perfectly ripe- I like them best the day or two after they lose their green color completely. If there are any brown spots I usually just give them to my dog

I love banana baked products- banana bread, banana cupcakes with cream cheese frosting, etc.

I forgot the post that my favourite use for bananas that have gotten a wee bit overripe is to make bananas foster sauce and serve it over vanilla ice cream--yummy.

That too is good, second best for me but still good...just cause of the flame action. First time I made it..bit too much rum...lit it and FLAMES galore! lololol
awesome!
