The Good, The Bad, & the Nuts! ...ANYONE GOING MAY 8-15?

Tanya, when lab results are faxed over for the consumers I always read them:rolleyes:If they have an "H" beside them they are high if they have an "L" beside them they are low :rotfl2:But as for actually knowing the norm no way unles I read the Labs and they tell you:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Here is Mark's picture before Prom. His date is the younger sister of the kid we are taking to Florida with us this August (he's gone with us 2 other times also). This is the family that we refer to as "Mark's other family" because he is over there as much or more than he is at home! Rachel is a cutie :cutie: and a nutjob , unfortunately she has a boyfriend....who Mark is friends with :confused3. She's also only a freshman, so I guess before I start making arranged marriages :rolleyes1 I'd better let her grow up, maybe get a drivers license and some stuff like that... :rotfl2:

I really want to get back to updating this, but these kids of mine....well one anyway. He had his play one weekend, Easter was the next weekend plus Danny had to record the colleges play that weekend, the next weekend was prom. Then this month they've had a bus trip to a cubs game, senior trip to st Louis, baccalaureate, honor night, an audition for a theater talent grant, his graduation open house, actual graduation. I had to help Danny get his DVD put together for the college (I have to watch every nights recording and write down bloopers), then I have to trim the covers for the cases. Then add bloodwork and dr's appointments and regular stuff that needs done it's no wonder I'm struggling to keep up on other threads, let alone try to move forward on mine. But I do still have my folder and receipts next to my computer.

YOu're doing fine, considering you JUST GOT A NEW KIDNEY!!! Give yourself a break, Tanya; the updating will happen, and we'll still be here :) Enjoy these milestone moments your family is making for now! :goodvibes:hug:

Thanks for giving me permission to take a break. I guess I keep thinking that I'm home all day, and danny's at work so I should have time to do it, but then all this other stuff pops up and I just don't feel like I'm getting anything at all accomplished. Today I spent nearly 2 hours at the garage having some piddly stuff done on the car only to find out I'll have to take it back again next week when a warranty part comes in. I already have the truck scheduled for maintenance on Tuesday, so that's 2 more days next week that I'll have running around to do.:rolleyes1

Here's just a sample of what has been keeping me away from DIS and slacking on my TR

Mark's High School Graduation

DSC_0206.jpg

This is 4/5 of the Thomas boys - left to right is Ryne (20), Mark (17), Sean (21) & David (33). My older step-son, Steve (38), is in Virginia somewhat in the Navy. He's on terminal leave, he officially retires in just a few days (couple weeks maybe) Hmmm....they all look like they could use a shave!

And these are my folks with Mark. My mom, Sally (70 in a month) and my dad, Jerry (72)

See!! You'd never want to miss out on those moments and events for a TR!!! NO WAY!! Congrats to Mark. That's a big accomplishment! :thumbsup2

Congratulations to Mark! And I agree with Liesa: stuff like that is way more important than a TR! :goodvibes

Hi Tanya! Trying to get caught up some on my TR reading. Congrats on the improved lab work results, and great prom pic (no wonder Mark stays over at his "other family" all the time)! And congrats to Mark on graduation. What a busy and wonderful time for you!!! :thumbsup2

Tonya great pix of the graduate !! Your Parents look very young !!!Congats on the good Labs !!I went for some today ,about 10 vials:scared1:One of my consumers will be starting dialysis next month!!:sad2:She is going on the Lake George vacation first hough and is Very excited about that!!:cloud9:

Rosie....what type of dialysis is your consumer going to be doing? If she does hemodialysis, I found that there is a numbing cream they can put on your arm for 20 minutes or so before they start so you don't feel the needles as much. I also found out it's terribly boring just sitting there for several hours. I assume the clinic has a tv to watch, but maybe a portable DVD player with her own movies or shows might keep her occupied.

Thanks to everybody for all of the congratulations for mark and my labs. It's been a crazy, busy time....so much so that I am leaving for WDW in just over 2 months and I haven't started packing :scared1: . We have a plastic tub downstairs that we keep some of our Disney-only stuff in. I want it brought up so I can see what goes on this trip and what can be added. But with grad party stuff drug up here and not put away yet I don't want more stuff laying around. Need to get mark to do his thank yous so I can call graduation officially over.

Danny is at a softball tournament, Sean & Mark are in Chicago for a Cubs game (that 2 hours after starting time had yet to start, and Ryne is at Youth group – so I thought I would try to sneak in a quick update!

Initial sketchy plans.

Thurs - DH is going over to the Children's Miracle Network Golf Tourny. How long he stays will depend on the weather. Last year when we came it was cold and windy that day and he didn't stay very long. I spent my morning hopping from one long indoor attraction to another (Country Bears, Presidents, Philharmagic.....). No plans for that evening yet since we don't know when he will come back. Don't know if I will go back to Epcot or somewhere else - depends on how hectic the Food & Wine festival is, and if I have any luck finding anything I like.

I will try to make this a pretty short update. One – I am trying to get this thing finished, because the trip I originally started never got past the airport parking lot. Two – there are no, zero, nada pictures for this day. And Three – all I have to go by are receipts, and frankly they aren’t too helpful. Hopefully as I go along things will come back to me.

The morning started basically as it always does. This day Danny may have gotten up before me and showered first. I won’t swear to it, but since he had somewhere to be, and I didn’t, I can see that happening. Coffee and toast were made and consumed, Danny would have taken one to go – we brought those Dixie disposable insulated coffee cups with lids – very handy! You can take your coffee with you in the morning but don’t have to haul your mug around with you the rest of the day. He was headed off to the Golf Tournament with hopes that he would have better luck than last year. He would have cut through Epcot and taken the monorail over to the Ticket Center then walked from there to the golf courses.

I piddled around in the room a little – the next day was check out day, so I was trying to make sure that everything was clean, and was trying to condense things a little to make packing easier.

Food & Wine was still going on, so it was another Epcot day for me. When I finally got around and went over there I went to Imagination first and went to the gift shop. I think this is the day that as I was coming in, one of the foreign cast members asked me if I wanted to ride Journey to Imagination. I didn’t quite understand her with her accent and she had to repeat the question. I declined. She must not have expected someone to come straight through the shop since the ride dumps you out there. But I was on a mission. We had finally decided what souvenirs we were getting the boys – a Tshirt! Aren’t we terribly original??

For Sean it was a Figment shirt. Actually, for Sean it was two. I got him this long sleeve shirt for a Christmas present,

and a Tshirt for his souvenir.

1108000946.jpg

This is actually brown even though it looks kinda grey. These pictures were taken earlier in the week on my phone so I could send to Sean.

This was an exercise in patience. Finding the shirts was simple – I knew what I wanted, I just had to grab the right size and head for the counter. That was the hard part! There was a lady ahead of me – a grandmother traveling with her children and grandchildren. Some of her group had left and some were still wandering around the shop. And even though she was checking out she wasn’t done shopping. And once she was finally all rung up THEN she asked if she could have some (not all) of it sent to their room. That meant they had to re-ring her, because only the stuff being sent could be on the receipt. So the cashier not quite knowing how to handle that had to enlist the aid of the only other CM working the registers. Of course, that meant she had to wait until that CM was done with her customer.

Eventually they got that all resolved and it was finally my turn, I asked to have mine sent to the International Gateway since tomorrow was check-out day. They did up all the paperwork and gave me my receipt and I was on my way. For some reason I do not have a receipt for this anymore, and my room charge print-out does not list the time. :confused3

From there I went to Mouse Gears to get the shirt I wanted for Mark

1108001916.jpg

yes, he is 17, and yes, he approved this purchase! I had actually sent him the picture as a bit of a joke – he likes Buzz, but I figured he would think he was too cool to wear something like that. Nope – not my son! His reply was “Cool! Get it!” I had that one also sent to the International Gateway.

Chores done and I was off!

I headed back to the World Showcase with the intent of going left towards Mexico this time. My last visit had started at the UK so this time I was going to work around the other way. There wasn’t a lot more that I was terribly interested in. But I started with, I think Argentina and a corn and cheese empanada. Again – I could be lying to you – I don’t have a receipt for it….I tried to keep them all, but sometimes the CM don’t give them back to you when you pick up your food. I did my food & wine purchases on a gift card instead of the room charge. But there was a purchase made after I loaded it up and before my next receipt – and I do remember getting something at the entranceway before actually going into the countries, and since I still have the map, and the empanada is the only thing that catches my eye now, I am going to assume it is what caught my eye then. And if it is wrong – well, you wouldn’t know anyway, since none of you were there. ;) Whatever it was that I ate, I made the mistake of parking my scooter in what I didn’t realize at the time was the smoking area. I went and got my food and came back to eat it and while I was gone a family of smokers came. I totally get that I was in their area and that if I had a problem with it I could move. But it was also in the shade, and it’s a hassle trying to renegotiate the scooter with food, so I stayed put and had a little 2nd hand smoke with my snack. Since I can’t even remember for sure what it was that I ate, I can’t really tell you whether it was any good. I am going to assume it was ok. If it was outstanding or awful I would have remembered.

From there my next stop was South Korea (located in China). I had the barbecue short rib with steamed rice and cucumber kimchi. I enjoyed this. Didn’t enjoy the frat boys behind me in line that were drinking there way around the world at 12:07 – but Im sure between the heat and the booze, karma caught up with them eventually.

Speaking of heat, next stop was the African outpost for a lemonade slush. I went ahead and used my card there since I had close to $60 on it and I knew I wouldn’t use it up at the booths. My lemonade slush was more what I thought the Grey Goose Slushie was going to be like. So I guess instead of $9.50 for a Grey Goose I would be more satisfied with $4 for a lemonade slush.

Next stop Hops & barley. At 12:07 I was in China, it is only 12:49 now and I am at Hops and Barley which is on the far side of the America pavilion. So obviously I wasn’t spending any time exploring the countries. I did relax and people watch as I had my snacks, but other than that I didn’t do much. At Hops & Barley I had the Pecan Bread Pudding. I remember that it was hot and that it was good – but until I just looked up the official name, I didn’t remember that there were any pecans involved. And that my friends, was the end of my lunch. An empanada appetizer, ribs for an entrée, frozen lemonade for a beverage and bread pudding for dessert.

I am not exactly sure what I did at this point. I may very well have gone back to the room. I think I had intended to go to the pool, but I believe that by the time I got there Danny was either back, or on his way back. I do know that at some point between going to the room and going out for the evening he suggested that I go ahead and go back and pick up the packages at the Gateway. They weren’t there when I left to go to the room. They weren’t due to be there yet, but I rolled through and checked. I don’t know what he was doing that he stayed behind – because he didn’t have pictures to download.

Regardless, I left the room around 2:45-ish and stopped first at Dundys Sundries. It’s the little giftshop in Boardwalk near the elevators. They had a keychain there that I wanted and this was souvenir shopping day. It is a dangly key chain with the letters D – V - C that are individual “charms” hanging vertically, and at the bottom is an oval charm with the DVC logo. I picked that up and headed back to Epcot.

In addition to picking up my packages, Danny wanted me to pick up the Vinylmations gorilla that we had seen earlier in the week. I thought I had seen it at the Gateway shop so I rolled through there first, I was wrong. And since I had insisted to him that I “knew” I had seen it there – I had to do the right thing and let him know that I was mistaken. Of course, I had to preface it with “Since this very rarely happens, I thought I would let you know that on this once in a lifetime occasion, you were right and I was wrong”. I realized later that the place I had actually seen it was over at the Image Works at Imagination when I was standing there for sooooo long waiting on the lady ahead of me. But since I didn’t remember that until later, I headed to Mouse Gears, where I knew they had the animals. While I was there, I also picked up a scarf for me. It’s a lightweight black scarf with brighthidden Mickeys and other designs on it. Wasn’t terribly warm this winter, but since my winter coat is open at the neck it did keep the chill off – mission accomplished.

From there it was back to the Gateway once again. By now it was after 3:30 and past time for my packages to be there. Supposedly. :rolleyes1

I waited patiently for my turn at the register and told the CM I had 2 packages from this morning, I gave her my name and zip code (?). And she went in the back. After a short while she came back. Now remember, I purchased two shirts at one store and one shirt at another. She is carrying a huge sack that has a box of some sort in it. At first I wasn’t too concerned because I thought maybe for some reason she grabbed one for someone else while she was back there. But nope – she brings them over, starts to hand them to me and says “here you are”. I said – “uh, that’s not mine”. She looks at the receipt on it again and the last names were similar (theirs was Thompson maybe) and the zip code was somewhat similar. But I had a T shirt and I think this was a monorail set. Granted, I would have come out ahead money wise, but I had no use for a monorail set, it wouldn’t fit in my suitcase, and some kid would be really ticked if they thought that’s what they were getting and they wound up with an adult t shirt. So back to the back room she went….and she stayed…..and stayed…..and stayed. She finally came back out and my Figment shirts, which I had purchase before the Buzz shirt, which was there, hadn’t been delivered yet. She got on the phone to somebody, and within about 10-15 minutes the delivery guy came in with it. She said a busy store like Mouse Gears delivers frequently, but Image works not so much.

T shirts collected and back to the room, yet again, I went.

I'll pause hear, and rewind to Danny's golf outing. Apparently the tourny got started late due to fog, so the schedule that showed who was teeing off where and when was off. There was nobody in the tournament that he was particularly interested in. So he watched some come through at one hole for awhile, then I think followed a group for a little bit. But he wasn't too enthused by it. He stopped and bought a cap, a ball marker hat clip and a Childrens Miracle Network golf ball around noon. I am assuming he probably worked his way back to the room after that. He wouldn't have wnated to carry that around with him. After two years of somewhat disappointing Golf Tourny trips, it looks like he is throwing in the towel. Not that we won't come down in the fall, but that we won't have to worry about scheduling a trip around the Tourny.

And now back to the trip that I was a part of....

We have no real plans – just supper and souvenirs. And we still hadn’t gotten Ryne’s shirt. The one we wanted we had seen at Hollywood Studios, so that is where we headed. We walked/rolled by the river over there and in we went. I don’t think he had eaten anything today, except maybe some snacks in the room, so our first stop was finding food.

I had mentioned to Danny that they had pulled pork sandwiches at the Studios. Not so much because I was hinting that I wanted one, but because we never have eaten at that cluster of CS places and he thought it was just turkey legs, fruit and drinks. I told him that they had real food there, and mentioned the pork sandwich. Well, I forgot that if I mention something to him that he thinks that means I want it. I have to be very careful. I can see something that I think looks nice and if I comment on it he will say “then get it” – just because I like something, or can appreciate something doesn’t necessarily mean that I want it. Another habit he has, is not telling me where we are going. If we are going to town and I ask where we are going, meaning store or restaurant, he’ll just say “Galesburg”. If I ask him to be more specific, he will likely say that he needs to get something, or we will grab a bite to eat. Very frustrating sometimes! And at WDW he walks ahead of me and I am on the scooter, so the best I can do is follow, I can’t even ask him where we are going – not that he would answer. So when he heads down Sunset Blvd I thought maybe he was going to go get FP for Tower of Terror, or check the wait for it. But no, he stops at the restaurants.

The tables are pretty full, and I pretty much need one on the edge because I can’t get my scooter in there, and there is really no where out of the way to park it. We look at the menus. He found a table and told me to go ahead and get my bbq sandwich and he would hold the table. Well, I wasn’t totally sure that is what I wanted, but it did sound ok, and since he made a point of coming down here because he thought that was what I wanted I figured I might as well stick with it. So I went to Fairfax Fare and got Rosie’s BBQ pulled pork and slaw. He went over to Rosie’s (not “our” Rosie!) All American Café and got the Chicken nuggets and fries. My sandwich was very good (thanks, Rosie, for mentioning it!). While we were eating a couple women asked if they could join us at our table since it was so crowded. They were splitting a sandwich of some sort and weren’t there very long. It was odd in a way, other than asking if they could sit there, they never spoke to us the entire time. I thought they might try some small talk, “where you from” kinda stuff. Oh well, we ate our food and hit the shops!

Our first stop was clear over where you are let out of the Back Stage Tour. It is kind of an open air shop, but it’s under a roof. The receipt calls it the Studio Prop Shop – I think its kinda by the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground. For Ryne we were getting a Mike Wozowski shirt. Its Mike-green and has his eyeball :magnify:(which I think glows…..maybe) and his mouth. I don’t have a picture of this one. From there we went back pretty much to where we ate. We went to the Beverly Sunset where we go – what else a Vinyl mation! This one was a “specialty” one – it was the 2010 Osborne Spectacle of lights one.

Although we had gone on not a single attraction today, and we had only been there a little over an hour, Danny thought it was time to head back to the room. The park closed at 7 and it was a quarter after 6, but we weren’t riding a bus so I don’t know what the hurry was, but we started working our way out. We stopped at Mickey;s of Hollywood and he picked up several sets of Post it notes. 3 of the 4-packs that he got were clearance to $3.99 – so basically a dollar per pad, the last one he got was full priced at 8.95. he got them for souvenirs to take to work. A nice cheap little way to bring a little something back for his co-workers. He bought packages of coasters one year.

From there we headed back over to the Boardwalk. We stopped at Dundys Sundries again and he grabbed a couple bottles of diet coke and we went back to the room. This was 6:43.

Again, I am at a loss for what we did next. Maybe a little more packing – or organizing to pack. But we weren’t in for the night. At 8:30 we headed back down to the main gift shop that is out on the Boardwalk and we got….altogether now…..more Vinylmations! Two this time. Nothing special, just a couple random ones. Then we went over to the sweet shoppe and got a couple dishes of ice cream. I got peppermint, and I would guess he got chocolate. We took them back up to the room to eat them because it was getting kind of chilly outside.

Now we were done for the night! Our last night there. And soooo much better than the first night – that started off with Danny’s explosion….:sad2:

So much for that “pretty short” update I was shooting for! ;)

Looking at my spreadsheet from that trip I see that Rick Springfield was playing at Epcot that night for the Eat to the Beat concerts. That reminded me that when I was coming by that area, which would have been around 12:30, there were already people....well, women.....lined up. The first concert isn't until 5:15. I can't imagine standing in the hot sun on the hot pavement for 5 hours to see a concert that, at most, probably only lasted about 45 minutes. :sad2:

However, considering how some of them were dressed, I think they could have been under the impression that if they get there first they get to take him home with them! :rolleyes1

I have no idea !!I know she has a shunt in her arm :confused3It will take 3 hours each time ,staff will take her and then come back when she is finished !! If there is no TV I will definately look into a portable DVD palyer for her or a cd pla:banana:yer !!!

Although they may not be original, t-shirts are still a nice souvenir in that they're relatively inexpensive and (as a benefit to the giver) they pack well!

If it's a shunt in her arm then it's most likely hemodialysis. Mine was peritoneal and it was a tube surgically insterted in my abdomen. That type requires more upkeep to avoid infections.

I only did hemo once, and that was after my transplant when they were trying to figure out what was going wrong with me. I don't remember if i tried to read or not, so I don't remember how comfortable it would be to move that arm around. You are stuck in the chair the whole time since you are attached to the machine. I hope she isnt restless and can sit still for 3 hours or so! Of course, she can always take a nap during it too! I do remember tryng to keep from nodding off...out of boredom!

Good luck to her! Will she be trying to get on the list for a transplant?
