The good, the bad (and the ugly??) about Anaheim Plaza???

Hi there,

We are going to Disneyland in December and have 5 nights booked at VGC. We are now considering extending the stay by one or two nights somewhere cheap, clean, and near by.

I've seen on the boards that the Anaheim Plaza seems pretty popular and is currently around $59 per night per room (we'd need two).

Is it a good option? Or are there better, comparable options?

Thanks :)

It's a decent place @ a great price. I have stayed there and would stay there again. I do prefer HoJo for the same price *but that can be hard to come by*

While I think the API is fine, and the rate is as low as you will find, I would not go from the GCV to the API.

I would want a little nicer room. I would want to remain super close.
All of these hotels are going to be more money.

Park Vue Inn
Carousel Inn
Fairfield Inn
Ramada Maingate, premium room

Or consider something that is helpful as those unavialable rates are not.

I would have no problems switching from the VGC to the AP, I probably wouldn't love it or be thrilled with it but if it meant a couple extra days at DL I would so be fine with it. LOL
We've stayed at the AP a few times, the rooms are huge, there is plenty of space, it is definitely walking distance the parking fee is currently the lowest around ($4 per day when we stayed there last, which was 2011 iirc) and they let you park early on your check in day and park late on your check out day. Staff is nice, grounds are pleasant, pool is HUGE (olympic size).
Negatives, there is only 1 hot tub, which for me is a bummer, I wish there were 2 or even 3, they do have space for more but I imagine it's a pricey thing to add so that's why they only have one. :) The other big negative for me is every time we have stayed there the water temperature fluctuates insanely while showering.....it goes from perfect to icy to extremely hot in a matter of seconds, it got to where I could tell it was going to happen and I'd step out of the water, wait a minute and get back in. But, if you don't know, or had a small child in there it could be bad......

We did and that was fine for us, 2 nights at the Grand followed by 2 nights at the Plaza. Maybe you could start at the Plaza and move to the Grand...

This is my thinking lol! Seeing all that is going on at the Resort in December we want to see as much as possible....if somewhere is clean and comfortable to sleep in (as we aren't going to be in the rooms much) then I'm just happy to be in Calfornia :rotfl:

That is one option -one night before GCV, the other option is two nights after....it's good to hear it works for other people :)

we have stayed at the Anaheim plaza twice. After the first time I swore I would never stay there again but the rate was cheap and so we stayed a second time this past March and now I am sure I will never stay there again.

We are not hotel snobs at all but the dark, old feeling of the rooms really brought us down. The beds are so low that you feel like you are sleeping on the floor. The carpets were gross and the vinyl part of the floor near the door, closet and bathroom was all sticky. The fridge made a very loud rattling sound all night when it kicked on. I don't care how much more the other hotels cost, I will not stay there again.

We do go back to our room to rest and relax every afternoon so coming back to that was not restful at all. In fact we came back at 4:00 one day and the room had not been made up yet. We needed to nap so we put the do not disturb on the door and never got our room cleaned that day.

Maybe if you don't take breaks it will work for a nights sleep and thats it. But we like to use our room to rest, relax and rejuvinate.

What building were you in? Just wondering, we've always been in the same building and didn't have those issues, just the water temp issue I mentioned previously. Our fridge wasn't loud, the floor wasn't sticky, the beds were fine, not great but not so low I felt like I was on the floor. We rarely get maid service unless we are staying more than 4 days, typically on day 4 we put the maid service sign out, otherwise we have the DND sign on the door.

Is being nearby a must? I mean, since you will have spent 5 days there already, could you maybe go with a nice hotel outside of the immediate area? I've heard great things about Hyatt and a few others. You could take a look on Priceline/Hotwire. You'd have to use ART or have a car, though.

APH is very, very budget. The rooms are large but honestly, I'd pay extra to stay somewhere nicer in a heartbeat. I'd even cut it back to 1 extra night in a nicer place. BUT...hotel is important to me. I'm not one of the "it's just a place to sleep" types.

You say you need 2 rooms--is your party large, or are you 2 families? Could you all fit in 1 room and stay at GCH for a night :rotfl:?

API is older but every time we have stayed there it has been clean and cheap. they have balconies or patios with big sliding doors. so to us the rooms are nice certainly better than say tropicana or del sol inn. and having had a horrible experience at GCH prefer it lol. i actually think the standard rooms at API are bigger than gch, just not decorated as nice or with the many amenites of gch. i abhor gch the rooms are small it is way to crowded and it is the only hotel in anaheim where something has ever come up missing.

thats very true...last dec. we did a priceline hotel and got the Red Lion Hotel on Harbor and I really liked it...we were there the very first week and got it for like $69 a night....really enjoyed that place alot...comfy beds, spa music, really REALLY liked it oh and its next door to Ihop...literally!!

I am now thinking about maybe staying a little bit further out - it's hard to decide how much time we are going to want in the parks (we prefer to come and go throughout the day if possible as I have my parents coming who LOVE Disney but also like to take breaks, which is also why we prefer two rooms ;) )

We do also want to do sightseeing in LA, so maybe I need to think about splitting things differently (I'm thinking as I'm typing lol)!

I'm going to keep looking and am definitely taking on board different suggestions :thumbsup2 I am so grateful for knowledge of people on these boards :goodvibes

Between my daughter and myself, we've been to the Anaheim Plaza 4 times and have never had the concerns the previous poster had. It is an older motel but our room was clean and huge, huge bathroom, microwave, refrigerator and the walk was across the street one block.

The beds were the typical hotel type beds. My 5 year old grandson had to climb up so I don't think they were on the floor??? My bed at home is pretty high where I have to climb up (those double/double mattress things that take the extra wide sheets) and found the beds at the AP to be ok.
