The good news and the bad news about recent DVC changes (IMO)

They took away the jetted tub? I saw a picture of soaking tub in one of the threads on the refurb. I had figured that put in the same soaking tub with floor jets as in the VGF. Is that not the case?

My understanding is that it's a plain soaker tub.

Having a section that says discounts and incentives may be offered to you and are subject to limitation or termination at any time just feels different than saying we reserve the right to selectively offer discounts to certain groups and exclude others.
It sounds like more protection against being forced to continue to offer perks indefinitely rather than a warning that they might choose to cut out certain members.
It may feel different but it isn't. That's a large part of the point some of us are making on such issues. In part this is emotion vs reality.

I believe this is the timeshare trend due to maintenance hygiene and cost concerns.

I think someone mentioned that if Disney took DVC away, then DVC perks would go away. I think DVC is here to stay, and Disney will continue to do DVC. I think Disney uses DVC as a method to build and refurbish existing resorts, passing the construction projects off as timeshare contracts. DVC membership dues pay for the upkeep of the resorts, whether or not the resorts are occupied. DVC members will visit the parks and resorts when the economy is bad. DVC members (resale or retail) are probably the best marketing tool for Disney parks/merchandise and future DVC members.

Disney is a business and will make business decisions to cut the bottom line. I believe that Disney understands and utilizes the DVC program for all the reasons above and would prefer to keep DVC members happy through providing good customer service, "pixie dust". Although many DVC members may disagree, good customer service doesn't mean give the customer everything they want.

When I redid the bathroom in my house, the contractor said he almost never is asked to replace the jetted tub with another jetted tub - the industry is going towards soakers - because of maintenance and cost - and the hygiene thing when you get to reselling the house. People seem to think secondhand jetted tubs are sort of gross.

hmmm, never thought of the cleaning issues with the jet tubs. The jet soaker in the VGF has an automatic clean setting. Turns itself on after the tub has been emptied. I assume it is everytime the tub is used, not just when jets are used, but don't know for sure.

Those are air bubblers though. They do have cleaning issues but nothing like the jets where the water is pumped through and sits stagnant between uses. I once put a tiny dab of "ahh some bio cleaner" (good stuff, BTW) in a hotel jetted tub once and..O..M..G.... I almost couldn't bear to reach through the sewage to pull the stopper. Nastiness.

I had wondered if a)some people were buying very small contracts resale in order to get access to the AP discounts, and if that was some of the motivation for the change. Also possibly to discourage owners who were on the fence from resale by depressing demand/pricing.
